Martha & Marley Spoon, Braised Black Bean Stew with Spiced Chili Oil and Cheesy Grits Meal Kit, Serves 2

Martha & Marley Spoon, Braised Black Bean Stew with Spiced Chili Oil and Cheesy Grits Meal Kit, Serves 2

I’ve bought this twice. The first time I made it, thought the dish was tasty, but expensive for the grits, a can of beans, a small bag of spinach, and a box of tomatoes, but only half the box was required. The second time I made it, I decided to stretch the meal, so I added another can of beans and the other half of the tomatoes. Also, I added some chopped onions of my own, saving the shallot to fry.. There was plenty. The first time I made it, I thought that there was too much spinach so I used only half of the bag. Also, the amount of cheese made the grits sort of gummy so I used just half. When it was leftovers time, I just cooked another batch of grits, added the other half of the cheese and spinach and got another meal. I didn’t like the Chile oil because it just adds calories. I added the spice packet to the beans. I think it a little bland, so even though a shallot was included, I think it needed more, thus adding onions. I feel like it’s a healthier alternative to most other choices. Just use minimal oil to fry the shallot.

very very good - we altered the recipe slightly by using all of the tomatoes, putting most of the spice packet into the beans and skipped making the spiced oil altogether. Super tasty.

My family was skeptical about this vegetarian dish, but once I cooked it, they loved the taste! the cooking experience itself was very pleasant: high quality ingredients, easy to follow instructions and didn't take too long. Will try this again in the future.

Super tasty and even with basic cooking skills the instructions made it come out really well.

Very bold and rich flavors. The kids loved it - even though it was vegetarian! We will order it agian.

I was very surprised but this was very very good.

Absolutely delicious ! Can't wait to purchase again.

very hearty and tasty recipe - it really hit the spot.

Easy to make and tasty.... Never would have thought of combining these ingredients.

Overall, the dish was not bad. However, the end product was quite salty. Also, the value isn't that great for what you get.
