I like this remote even better than the origional remote that came with my 2017 TCL Roku 55R615 Smart tv. Both are pictured above. The origional remote had a stars instant load button where this remote has a amazon button instead. Pay close attention to your model number when ordering a remote for your tcl tv. One digit off and the remote will not work.
I have a TCL 6 Series (R617) that came with an RF remote. I also use a Sonos Playbar and the Playbar can only be controlled by an IR remote. This automatically just worked with my new TV (no pairing process) and was easy to configure to work with my Sonos Playbar to control the volume (Up/Down/Mute).
By going from RF to IR you do lose the voice control functionality but it's a worthwhile trade off to me to be able to control the volume of my Sonos Playbar..
Out of the package, pop In 2 AAA batteries, and go! No pairing. Works immediately w my TCL roku tv. ALSO, the volume buttons are on the side. Winning.
One of the best features of the remote is I didn't have to program it, it also works on all my Roku TVs.
If you're using the app on your phone to control your TV it has a lag time, the remote doesn't. Which it makes it more responsive.
The only way I could see making it better would be putting Bluetooth technology into it, cuz I use headphones a lot so as not to bother other people at night.
Voice recognition? Does have that as well?
It’s a remote - that’s what I used it for! I bought it because it had both a Netflix button, & an Amazon button, the 2 mail streaming sources that we use. The only problem I’ve had is that the red on/off button often doesn’t work. I have to keep playing with and finally it decides to work.

I wanted another remote for my TCL television, so I bought this one. I received it very quickly, put new batteries in it and it worked. Nothing to program, no messing around, it just worked. I was really happy. Now this remote does not have voice controls, but everything else works perfectly, just like the original TCL remote. I recommend it without reservations.
While the R617 original RF works good and got voice command but I need IR to program my universal, and this IR remote fits the bill and price is right. The R617 can work with both. Only thing I wish is Roku got more discrete buttons, like direct numeral buttons. This IR remote is lighter than the RF version and the buttons feels more "plastic" than rubber.
Works great. I just miss the headphone jack.
Great price!! $10 for an extra remote, that’s a no brainer. The original remote didn’t have the Amazon video button so I bought this and it worked as soon as I put batteries in it! My model tv wasn’t on the list of comparable devices but it still worked.
Just got a TCL TV and a new puppy. Puppy ate said TV's remote (a roku OS TV). Ordered 2 of these. They arrived the next day, worked perfectly with no hassle, and allowed the puppy to remain on my good side. :>
Bestbuy (where I original bought the TV from) on the other hand didn't carry these at all.
