On a hunch, I ordered this as a Valentine's gift for my boyfriend. I figured it was something he didn't know he'd always wanted. I was a little apprehensive about ordering a live plant from Amazon, because, really, how does one ship a bonsai?? But I decided it was worth a shot because of the positive reviews for this particular seller, plus the customer images seemed like the trees were constistantly bonsai-y. A few others I was considering had customer images that looked like they had purchased a potted twig.
Nine days later, a carefully-packaged happy and healthy little tree arrived! I was amazed at its perfect little bonsai shape, and kinda fell in love with it.
Honestly, I was a little tempted to keep it and find something else for my boyfriend, but I gave it to him anyway. He totally loves it and said he had always wanted one (I was soooo right!). He spent the next week thoroughly geeking out over researching proper bonsai care. If I had a suitable place on my patio for a bonsai, I would have already ordered another for myself.
Also, these are OUTSIDE trees! Apparently they get sad if they have to live indoors for extended periods of time.
I've bought a lot of things on Amazon but this has got to be my absolute favorite so far. I am so glad I chose to buy from this seller after looking at my options. It was a birthday gift for my elderly Aunt and let me tell you, she was so happy when she received it. I've included a photo of the tree to show the beauty and quality of the tree she received. I couldn't be a happier customer. Thank you very much.
Goodness, I ordered this with some incredibly low expectations. I mean, I love Amazon, but ordering a live tree seemed like an awful idea, and if I hadn't been desperate, I never would have. However, this is possibly the best I could have hoped for. Though the shipping took a little while the tree I received was absolutely gorgeous and full of character! (I've named it Charlie the tree, it seems fitting.)
It was obvious that the seller watered it before sending it out, as the soil was still moist, and the tree was vibrant green and clearly healthy! It also came with a little bit of fertilizer and a small note on bonsai tree care. I've never written a review before, but I definitely think that this lovely little tree is deserving of one!
Strange shape but I think it will turn out good with very low hanging branch below the pot level. Beautiful little pot. It's workable. No real apex yet, otherwise great little plant and with lots of character. Overall very satisfied. Picture shows after I pruned and wired it. It's relative size next to a Zippo lighter. Second pic is the new Juniper and one of my young Chinese elms.
A nice little tree for the price. Some of the pictures make this tree look like it's been setup for root over rock, but it's just a rock that they've placed next to the tree. Shipping was 2 days from when they shipped it and the tree arrived in great shape. It was packaged well and the soil was still wet. It will need some wires and pruning, but it's a great starter tree in a cool little pot. Very happy with my order, will update if I run into any issues with the tree.

Description
A 5+ year old juniper bonsai trees crafted for anyone. This juniper tree has fresh green needles throughout the year and requires only minimal care if it is placed outdoor; it can stay in an indoor environment where sufficient sunlight and fresh air is feasible. The juniper is indeed one of the most popular bonsais grown in the States, its evergreen features and naturally cascading branches shows the intrinsic beauty of nature. Though many nurseries have claimed to grow and craft the trees; we DO NOT stick a tree into a bonsai pot and call it bonsai. We select only the most full and healthy trees, and shape and nurture them to reach a weathered and mature appearance and style, and then we transfer them to the selected pots that matches the trees. They are a labor of love and a treasure sure to bring you many years of enjoyment. This particular bonsai sits in a high fire, top quality, handmade bonsai 4" to 5" container (like the tree, because each individual container is handmade, its color and pattern of the container may vary). This is an authentic Japanese juniper bonsai setting; handcrafted by Bonsai Etc. EXCLUSIVELY for Tabletop Bonsai listing. Upon receiving the product, we urge all customers to check the product source, contents, and its documentation for the authenticity of the product. If you believe you receive a different product, please report to Amazon immediately. Happy shopping! Special Note: Shipping to California is not recommended, please check with the seller for more information.
I think it's happy, and has a nice wide shape to it. I will be able to do a little pruning to it to give it a little more character. Looks like they leave it for you to shape/trim if you want to you liking. I went with this because the reviews were really good. And well, I went to the right place!
Mine doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight, but a good amount of fluorecent office light, it being at my work. I've heard flourecent light is good if you don't get a lot of direct sunlight. If you don't have either, get a full spectrum LED grow light. They need the full light spectrum for optimal growth.
I just received my tree, and it is very similar to the one pictured. The tree made it through the USPS (Priority Mail) intact and looking quite healthy.
The seller watered the plant just before packaging, sealed over the soil / base of the tree with plastic, and packaged the bowl and tree securely in a specially sized box. They also provided a guide for caring for my juniper bonsai and a small amount of fertilizer to be applied every 2-3 weeks. They really couldn't have done more to ensure my tree is and will remain healthy and beautiful.
They left the tree quite bushy and the trunk has a nice shape, so with a little trimming I'll have the perfect tree.
I hope it'll have a long and happy life on my desk for years! I'll update later with continuing status.
Great product!
EDIT: The branches of the tree were all curved up and the foliage's shape didn't look as great as I'd like it when the tree arrived. However, the branches lowered into much better positions in a few days. Now the tree looks gorgeous, and I'm not sure I'll trim it at all! It was the secure packaging that caused the branches to look mooshed, so wait a few days before you decide upon a foliage verdict (or begin trimming).
I forgot to mention before, the tree is planted in a sandy soil to ensure optimal drainage. I water every 4-5 days by immersing the lower half of the bowl in water for 15 minutes.
I moved into a new office at work and I finally have a window, so I wanted to fill it with life. I've always thought Bonsai trees were cool after watching the Karate Kid, so I looked for a tree on Amazon. Many of the sellers had horrible reviews but this one had decent reviews so I decided to pull the trigger. It took a couple weeks to ship but it arrived happy and healthy, and like other reviews said the sandy soil it was potted in was still moist so they must have watered it right before shipping. Very nice job shipping a tree; the pot with soil was sealed really well and a lot of packing peanuts around the tree. It looks bushy with the branches pushed upward, but after reading other reviews I think it will settle and look better after a few days. I'll try to remember to update this review after a couple months, but right off the bat I'm very happy with this purchase.
I love my new bonsai tree! It was a little smaller than I was expecting, but it arrived super healthy and cute. I really like the planter that it came in as well as the little decorative rock at the base of the tree. The planter is a bit aged, which I could understand if it truly is a 5 year old tree.
The tree was shipped in a box with lots of foam peanuts protecting it. It came with a small amount of plant food that is supposed to be applied every 3-4 weeks. It is enough for several feedings and then you can switch to regular household plant food according to the instructions. Speaking of which, the instructions provide a lot of valuable information about care like keeping it in direct sunlight for 3-4 hours a day but keeping it in a cooler area if possible (even outside is okay).
I hope to have this tree for many years to come. Wish me luck! :)
When this arrived I loved it! Looks just like the pictures and my bowl was very cute.
I have now had it for a month and 5 days and I ad been keeping it inside near a window and it started looking a bit sad. One of the branches and its under-needles were getting slightly brown. I have now moved it outside so it has a better chance of getting direct sunlight. Hopefully that will help it perk back up!
Still 100% worth the cost. Even if it dies after 6 months I wouldn't regret buying because the price is right!
