Rexing V1 Car Dash Cam 2.4" LCD FHD 1080p 170 Degree Wide Angle Dashboard Camera Recorder with Sony Exmor Video Sensor, G-Sensor, WDR, Loop Recording

Rexing V1 Car Dash Cam 2.4

  I have had this camera for about a year now and it's still working fine. I was able to review footage from a trip to my local Toyota dealership. I have a highly modified sport car and this camera caught the dealership abusing my car, damaging it, and driving it improperly. Was awarded nearly $1,500 in damages all because of this dash cam (somehow they never even saw it in my windshield). So, the camera has more then paid for itself in only the first year of owning it. Many of my friends have bought this camera as a result. I highly recommend it.

After doing a lot of research on the internet, I decided to buy the Rexing V1 due to its size and due to the fact that it comes with an adhesive mount. I don't like suction cup mounts because they tend to fail over time. I hard-wired the unit to my car so that whenever the ignition is on, the unit will be powered.

Pros
- Secure adhesive mount (it has a quick attach/detach system);
- Adjustable lens angle;
- Ability to mute/unmute the microphone with the press of a button;
- Excellent 1080p quality during daytime. The night time quality is not as great but it is still above the average when compared to other models;
- Loop recording;
- Ability to select the lenght of the video files (3min/5min/10min);
- Stealth appearance;
- ability to support up to 128GB (as of now I have only tried it with a 32GB card);
- multi language menu;
- ability to record speed and lat/long if using the GPS antenna (I bought the Itrue GPS logger. It allow me to view the tracking on the map, lat/long, current speed, max speed, average speed and distance traveled);
- Screen saver that allows the screen to automatically turn off after 15sec, 1min or 3min;

Cons
- So far I have not found one (I have been using the camera for three weeks).

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE

I contacted Rexing due to difficulties I was having to set the date format and to keep the time set. They responded back in less than 24 hours.
They customer service representative was nice, understanding and polite and even offered me to issue a replacement unit under warranty. After troubleshooting the unit with the representative's support, all the issues I was having were solved. I was very truly impressed with Rexing's customer service. They are professional, understanding and commited to keeping their customers satisfied.

I have purchased 3 dashcams so far and this is the best one yet. In all fairness, this one is the most expensive to date and it should be better... and it absolutely is. The recording is clearer by far. I installed it so that from the drivers seat, the dashcam is covered by the mirror and doesn’t block any more of the windshield than the mirror already does. It operates easily and the directions are clear. The only thing I think they could do better is to offer a choice of wiring harnesses to connect it to the power source. It came with one that plugs into the cigarette lighter recepticle and the dashcam being replaced was installed so that the wiring was hidden and it was hard wired to the fuse box. If they don’t want to include two sets of wiring with the unit, they could offer a choice. I was excited to receive and install the dashcam only to find that if I used the wiring it came with, there would be an exposed wire hanging down. Previous experience with attempting to find connectors to adapt the anorexic wiring included with a dashcam, to a hard wired scnerio proved fruitless. A solution could be to offer either/or, or include both sets.
What is included, is a lengthy dissertation describing how using any other wiring will void any and all warranty coverage and result in a scorched earth outcome impacting the next three generations. Patience lacking, I opted to use the existing wiring and so far, it has worked just fine.
Disclaimer: The above description of my personal use of existing wiring is in no way intended to suggest this adaptation be replicated by the reader or any other bystanders. (On second thought, maybe I did learn something from reading the instructions accompanying this dashcam.) ;)

2/9/2018:
Updating my review. I received a replacement unit from Rexing. The new unit connects easily to my computer and formatting the card is flawless. For that, I am already a much happier customer than before. For the first time ever, I have been able to get videos off the device, which means I can now review the actual functions of the camera.

Video Performance: The video quality is decent on this camera as long as things are not moving left/right. When things move horizontally, they get blurry very fast. I can only assume this is due to the wide angle lens, but it could be a bit rate or frame rate issue. When you're driving normally down the road, left to right isn't the direction the other cars are moving (unless you're watching cars go across at an intersection) and the image is clear enough to make out license plate numbers; which is important. In low light, you can only really see what the headlights are illuminating. I know the camera has exposure control options, but I have not yet played with them. Rexing has been very persistent that I update my review so some features have not been used.

Sound quality is surprisingly good in car. I haven't been smashed into by anyone yet, so I can't tell you if audio outside the car is picked up well or not.

Overall I give the unit 4 stars for the low level light performance and the blurriness in certain situations.
I give Rexing 5 stars for their customer support and speed correcting the issue. I should have contacted them first before leaving a bad review. Some sellers on Amazon don't care and I incorrectly assumed these were just cheaply made units being sold by people who don't care. I was wrong.

The camera is worth the money paid, in my opinion. However, truth be told, I don't have any other driving cameras to compare it to.

Rexing contacted me about my unsatisfactory experience with the V1 and has issued a replacement.

I'm very grateful that Rexing USA values their customers' experience as much as they do. That says a lot about their commitment to quality.

My initial review is as follows:
This is by far the buggiest piece of electronics I have ever owned. Eats micro SD cards at about one per tank of gas if you don't buy the 100 dollar cards. Even then, it's a gamble.

Want to update firmware or extract movies off of it? GOOD LUCK! PCs recognize it long enough to tell you there are videos, but as soon as you try to pull one off, it disconnects.

Want to load files onto your brand new Class 30 SDXC UHS3 to update the firmware? Nope. Have fun doing nothing.

And that's all if you can even get your computer to recognize it when it is in Mass Storage mode.

I REALLY wanted to like this thing. Owned it for almost a year and it has never worked properly. I just kept trying and praying that they would release an update for it that would fix it. I think enough time has gone by now that I can no longer hold on to that dream. .

Updated:
Customer service took care of me. Actually working quite well now. Thx.

2 incidents happened, rather scary. I am on the road alot. Lets go to the video, OOOPS card is corrupted. Not only corrupted, but now unusable. This card just came from my 1000$ Canon camera. Recorded many videos and thousands of pictures. Card was formatted in the dash cam.
Wanted to like it, but it is nothing more that a disposable camera if it worked.

I will try and use my Sony action cam. At least I know it works and the video is exceptional. So I am out the 99$ for the camera and a 60$ memory card. an expensive lesson to be learned.

Wonder how many of these reviews were submitted the the manufacturer and their employees ? I must be the lucky one who git the defective one right ? I should be so lucky when I buy lottery tickets.

I purchased this product about a month ago and last week decided to check the camera out and get it set up foe install. In the instructions it says to install the latest firmware which I did. What a mistake! After thinking I had bricked the device did I read that the SD card must be formated using Fat32 formatting. Almost all SD cards are large file formats which are not in Windows 8.1 and higher. You'll need to download the Fat32 formatter, then format the SD card in Fat32, then download the firmware update (use standard) and unzip the all the files (three). Now load the files (one bin and two JPGs) on the SD card. Make sure the camera is off and unplugged when you install the SD card, then plug into your power source. Now wait for the device to load the firmware, when it boots up, go to the menu screen and reformat the SD card and then set up the camera. The instructions only cover video and settings not still photos. Hope this helps

UPDATE - The replacement camera was received and they sent a call tag to send the old unit back. The new unit is working well and I am very happy with it. Thank you.

UPDATE - Over email, Rexing offered to send a replacement. I added two stars for their service. If the new camera arrives and works I will add another star.

Received on November 15, 2016. It was a great camera while it worked. Camera died today, 4 days after return window closed, of course. Good quality picture and nice mounting. It now stays on white logo screen when powered up. I tried the reset and the firmware update (per website instructions) and the camera still does NOT work. As a side note, after the firmware update from the official Rexing website I now have a different logo "Blueskysea" on the screen but it will still not boot up.

The camera is very lightweight and that a good thing if you want something to stay put when its in a hanging position. It takes a nice video so far and I like that I can tuck it up underneath my rear view mirror so its out of my sight.

Let me preface by saying that I really like the unit. It's small and is somewhat camouflaged with it placement next to the rear view mirror in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Hopefully this keeps it from getting "ripped off" when the car is parked. This unit deserves actually 4 1/2 stars but I gave it 5 because of the good customer service. I emailed the seller a couple of times during the setup process and he responded within 24 hours and that was good enough for me. The reason for the 4 1/2 stars is that my unit came with the "motion detection" and "parking monitor" functions disabled and one would need to download the "expert" software from their website in order for that to function. They should have had those functions enabled initially and leave it up to the user to select them as needed. I have my unit connected to an "always on" 12 volt power supply which is available in the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is hidden in the center console. This way it allows me to leave the unit on when parked and be able to monitor anyone who backs up and hits my front bumper and drives away. This is the same as a permanent hard-wired solution. The only downside is that i have forgotten to turn the unit off and have parked in my garage and the unit continues to record hours of the garage wall. Essentially, it doesn't really matter anywhere because the videos loop over and overwrites. I purchased this unit with the recommended 64gb Sandisk microSD and it works perfectly. You must remember to format it in the unit before it reads and writes properly. I had to make some small adjustments to the "exposure" setting before I was satisfied with the videos. For me, leaving the "exposure" at "0"; the videos came out too dark. I had to increase exposure in 1/3 increments settling at 2/3 before the videos were satisfactory. In bright daylight; the videos were great but in overcast light some areas were a bit dark so setting the exposure at "2/3" worked out great. I assume this was also a function of the tinting on my windshield also. Overall, the unit does what is advertised and the videos are very good considering the unit cost under $100. It is not a Hasselblad but it will capture that moment that you need as evidence for your auto insurance company. Based on my experience, I recommend it and will purchase another. Hopefully, they will update the software and include the two missing features so that I don't have to download it. If you hard-wired the unit; you won't need it but if you plug it in into a 12volt outlet that only comes on when the ignition is on and you want to record and monitor you will have to download the "expert" software.

I liked this dash cam alot. Recorded good quality video, easy to use and reliable. Only two bummers about this dash cam. One, it does not do very well at night. Can't see anything unless its right in your headlight beams, and even then you can't see very far out. The only exception is if your in a well lit area such as a gas station or a street flooded with lights. Two, the adhesive mount that keeps the camera secure to your windshield does not hold up very well in the hot sun. It will hold for a while, but eventually you will have to either buy another mount/clip, or use more/fresh adhesive. Rather than those two things this dash cam was close to perfect. I am a little disappointed that it stopped working completely after 2 years exactly. All the cam does now is stay on the boot up blue "Rexing" screen. Ive tried to reset it and leave it unplugged for a while but no luck. I have a feeling the summer heat finally got to the internal components and fried the cam. I wish it would have lasted longer.
