I have been buying this for a couple of years now. An amazing product for so many reasons; taste, ease of mixing, and plant based. I go through 1-2 per month.
I have one little gripe that won't cost it a star... but the containers are 1/2 full? I know manufacturers are trying to cut costs by shrinking the amounts purchased, but when you get a fairly robust plastic container that's only 1/2 full... it's getting ridiculous. It's a waste of plastic and turns an otherwise wonderful product into a scam. Come on Orgain, you are better than that.
I'll preface this by stating that I try to never review a product until I've been using it for at least two+ weeks. So after two weeks and going to the gym 6 out of 7 days a week, here's an honest opinion...
Pros:
- Ridiculously easy to mix -- could just mix it with my eyes.
- Stevia over other synthetic sweetners/sugars (some may find Stevia disgusting, for me, I find the taste decent enough to put over my cereal)
- No stomach issues to report (I'm severely lactose intolerant and have several other food allergies that have put me in the ER)
- Priced fairly well for what it offers compared to other competitors
Cons:
- Taste -- SUPER chalky -- probably one of the worst tasting powders I've tried (1 star off)
- Minor gripe -- the scoop was buried deep in the pits of powder hell. I tried to fish it out with a knife, spoon, and fork... no dice. I finally cursed, "[dang-diddly diddly do-dang]," brought out the jaws of life and buried my hand in. Despite using my hand, I still had to do some casual spear fishing for a few minutes until I finally got it out. (1 star off).
Other thoughts:
Despite the taste, this powder is one of the few out there that doesn't give me the rumbley tumblies or the quacking ducks, so I can't complain too much. My intestines are thankful for the lack of dairy ingredients, as well as the E.R. doctors being thankful for not having to inject muscle relaxants/fluids into me at THREE-IN-THE-MORNING(twice). While it doesn't contain as much protein per scoop as other competitors, it offers a great choice for those who are like me and have severe food allergies, but still want their protein. A good product that has the potential to be great, but definitely needs a bit more work in the taste department. Otherwise, this will be my go-to protein for the time being.
Overall: 5/7 stars.
I ordered the creamy chocolate and started replacing 1-2 meals a day with it. I can’t compare this with any other protein shake mix because this is the first powdered protein mix I’ve bought. However, I can tell you that the taste is great. It can be a little chalky at first, but after learning how to blend it right with Nutra Ninja bullet, there is not really any chalkiness or grit to it especially if you add a banana and a handful of ice to it. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk as the base. The best part is I’m not hungry for about 4.5 hours which was my goal. I’ll be ordering more.
First I would like to say that I usually buy this at Costco but decided to buy it on Amazon since it's like $8 dollars cheaper than going to Costco. However the one at Costco is 2.75 lbs and the one on Amazon is 2.03 lbs. So there's that. I think that it is a better buy on Amazon since I don't have to drive all the way to Costco and face the weekend madness lol. And it's free two day shipping. Other than the great deal I get this is also my favorite protein powder I've had, ever. It's tastes amazing for an organic powder, I love the chocolate flavor. It's rich and creamy. I am also a nursing mom and drinking this helps replenish my body after a nursing session. I do sometimes get the grittiness but that's only if I don't blend it long enough. I love that it's so easy to prepare, I just put the scoops into some milk, blend it on my magic bullet, and drink it like chocolate milk. It's so good! I will definitely be buying this on Amazon from now on.

Description
Gluten-Free
I started with almond milk (lactose issues), then went to a 50/50 almond milk and water. I found it broke down quicker with the 50/50 blend. The flavor is great. I've tried a number of powders over the years and this one is the best. I've changed my diet, so ingredients are key. There are no artificial any things in this one. They use Stevia, which is a natural sweetener that is better for your body than anything else (other than Xylitol). If you are not used to Stevia, it may take a little to "come to the dark side", but your body will appreciate it!
pros:
1.plant based protein
2.keeps you full for atleast 4-5 hours all by itself. (I didnt add anything else in my shake. Just 1.5 scoops of powder and almond milk). So I would say its a great breakfast substitute for me since I dont have that much time in hand to make breakfast every single day. I am not a body builder. I just wanted a meal replacement option for my breakfast needs. So this one is just perfect for me and cheaper than other available brands.
3.tastes okay. It doesnt taste extra ordinarily tasty but doesnt taste that bad either. I think its a plus point for a protein shake.
4. is a lil chalky but still works for me. I dont have a problem with chalky-ness so I am completely okay with it being chalky.
cons:
1.The jar is extremely large, but it looks like the actual product is half of the size of jar. The other half is empty. I dont understand why would they do that. Keeping the packaging compact would be something I prefer
2. should come with a spoon for correct measurement of 2 scoops as mentioned on the jar. .
3. protein content is less as compared to other brands
4. aftertaste of artifical sweetner remains in the mouth for sometime
5. powder hardened at the botton of the shaker which was hard to get out.
I put the powder into a shaker and then put some milk into it. By the time I could start shaking, the powder had hardened at the bottom of the shaker. Tried blending it but still didnt mix well. Finally I had to scoop the hardened powder with my finger and just eat it like that.
This is the first plant-based protein powder that doesn't taste like a plant-based powder! I've tried so many different plant-based powders over the year that always ended in me throwing the product away, (I still cringe at the money I tossed away, but couldn't bring myself to swallow the nasty options or give them to friends or family).
The Orgain Creamy Choc. Fudge Protein Powder so perfectly chocolatey, I have to stop myself from making more than one glass at a time! It's easy to swallow, unlike the uncountable other plant-based products I've tried. No gross after-taste, either. I usually mix it with just unsweetened almond milk, but occasionally, I'll blend it with ice and powdered peanut butter for a yummy Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie/Milkshake. Any smoothie you add chocolate to, you can substitute Orgain with great results.
This product is very close in taste and texture to whey products, that I have stopped looking at any other brands, (I have only tried the chocolate Orgain so far). Is it identical to whey? Of course not, but it's so close, your taste buds won't know the difference, but your overall gut health will. There's also no heavy after-taste associated with stevia, which is a bonus.
In addition to the great flavor, I love that it's organic and vegan. The only non-organic ingredient is Xanthan Gum, which is the last ingredient on the list.
Overall, what is my impression?
1) Great chocolatey taste
2) Non-gritty texture
3) No nasty after-taste
4) Great meal substitute or on-the-go meal
5) Healthy choice being vegan and organic
Now you can stop looking for an adequate chocolatey plant-based protein mix. Orgain is more than adequate, it's exceptional. It will not only please your taste buds, but your body, too!
Just got this today and OH MY GOSH! It is delicious. I've been using the chocolate flavor for years and when I saw they have a peanut butter flavor, I knew I needed to try it. Definitely worth the price. Yes, it is more expensive then getting the chocolate flavor at costco; however, it's nice to have something different that tastes so great!
This is the BEST plant-based protein powder out there in my opinion. It isn't overly sweet or gritty like so many other powders. Highly recommend!
I did not expect this to taste so good, I love the chocolate, like the vanilla and was getting bored so I gave peanut butter a try and omg its so good. No after taste, no chalkiness. For a twist do 1 scoop of chocolate and one peanut butter and another amazing treat. I'm drinking this for medical and weight loss reasons, these vegetable protien shakes make me feel good, in less pain, give me energy and fill me up. Add the fact that they are organic and there you have it, 5 stars! I lost 15 pounds in the last 2 months just doing a shake for breakfast and sometimes lunch too with lots of protien all day. (No junk) I definitely recommend these shakes
