I loved the Linkettes as a kid (no one told me they were meatless, but I would have loved them more). I started looking for them as an adult, especially since I'm vegetarian now and found out they were meatless. Someone said that the Vega-Links were better than Linkettes, so I tried them. I honestly can't tell the difference, but they are both so good. I served one to my Carnivore of a husband and he said he wouldn't have known if I hadn't told him. He did say the texture is a bit different, but he ate the whole hot dog and loved it. Even my dogs come and beg for a bite every time I'm eating them. I like to eat them cold out of the can in the fridge for lunch, sliced and fried with an egg and toast for breakfast, with beans for dinner. Basically any way you might think to use a hot dog, but these are so much better, and much healthier for you (oops, sorry I used the "H" word, lol).
I read one review that said they are "Seventh Day Adventist Food" and maybe they started out that way, but we're not Seventh Day Adventist and we love them too! :)
Loma Linda - Vegetarian - Veja-Links (19 oz.).
I was reading where folds may have been a little disappointed in the shelf life of these after opening.
Been using these for over 20 years. These are freeze friendly! So....when you open the can, what ever
you don't use right away, drain the liquid, place in a freezer friendly container (I use a little parchment paper
between every two..but you can just toss them in the container). You will will need a sharp fork
or tong to split away what you want. Toss them in a little pan of boiling water...they thaw and cook up quickly.
Voila! You don't have to worry about waste every again.
.
I'd give them 4 stars but my other taste testers give them 5, simply because they thought they were regular dogs. The perfect size for Crescent Cheese Dogs too. I will definitely buy Loma Linda's again and see how they do on the BBQ grill. I should also mention the color is meat-like. Texture on the other hand is somewhat revealing these are indeed vegan.
A bit softer than a regular hotdog and the first bite will tell you its not a meat hotdog. However, its very good in itself and my favorite meat substitute hot dog.
Have eaten these Vega-Links going on 60 years now. Nothing in the grocery store can replace them.
