RunningSnail Solar Crank NOAA Weather Radio for Emergency with AM/FM, Flashlight, Reading Lamp and 2000mAh Power Bank

RunningSnail Solar Crank NOAA Weather Radio for Emergency with AM/FM, Flashlight, Reading Lamp and 2000mAh Power Bank

I like it. Uses 3 Triple AAA Batteries which is a nice touch. Also USB NiCad Battery Charging. Plus Solar and Crank. Better made and larger than some of the other models on Amazon. Just had a storm and power outage last week, so this will come in handy the next time. Weather Band is pretty boring until a storm comes but it is handy when you need it. The reading light and adjustable falshlight is a nice touch.

Update: Hurricane Matthew! No power for 5 days. This radio was a lifesaver!

When I first received this item in October, 2016, everything seemed to work okay. I placed it in a drawer waiting to use it the next time an emergency occurred. On January 22, 2017 we experienced high winds, rain, and tornado warnings in our area. We took the device out of the drawer and began setting it up for use. Unfortunately, everything worked except the radio. We read the instructions and tried every option we could think of, but the radio would not respond. Now that several months have passed since its purchase, we are unable to return it. Since I was not able to return it via the Amazon website, I sent an email message to the supplier (info@zh-meding.com) listed on the instruction sheet and explained my situation. They quickly responded and ended up sending me a replacement. This one works great. All the radio bands now work well, the lighting features work well, and I'm very pleased. Like any kind of electronic device every now and then one is sent out with a defective part. I was totally impressed that the supplier readily acknowledged my complaint and remedied the problem even after several months had expired since the date of purchase.

I have had other NOAA weather radios in the past, but this little guy is THE BEST EVER!!! It powers with solar, or batteries or crank. It picks up AM and FM very clear for a small radio. The NOAA weather channel comes in nice and clear as well. It is an adjustable flashlight, sends out SOS signal, and it has a very loud panic alarm. It has a reader light behind the solar panel. You can charge your cell phone with it. And it is a great looking radio. The feel is very soft. This item is made very well. I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS RADIO! I am so pleased with it, that I would recommend it to anyone who wants an inexpensive emergency radio that does that job and many others!!! Can't say enough good things about this.

As a survivor of Hurricane Irma in SW Florida, I fortunately never lost power or communication. I can enthusiastically give this 5 stars partly because it gave me such a sense of security. I kept it by my side waiting for the storm to hit, knowing that in most circumstances, this would let me cope, at least temporarily, with power loss and communication. I tested each of its features and it functions as described. Since many of my neighbors are still waiting for power after 8 days, I can appreciate being able to charge the battery with a solar panel. It comes with basic instructions.

Just got my radio today. I don't expect emergency weather radios to be large, so the size wasn’t unexpected. I will say that out of the box everything was packed nice and tiddy.
- Looks like it had enough juice to turn the radio on and fiddle around with for a bit. FM channel came in almost immediately. I’m a bit old school, so I like the manual style tuner, had that in my previous weather radio so that’s not a negative.
- The weather band came in quite clear, even holding the unit low and away from the window.
- The instructions were clear and easy to understand.
- The radio allows me to use my iPhone charger so that’s a plus. Turning the unit to charge mode allows the unit to give and accept charge off the Li Ion battery. Immediatly started charging my phone just as if it was plugged into the wall outlet.
- The solar panel doesn't look chinsy or fragile. The top light immediately came on.
- SOS is nice and loud, but may not be able to hear in an emergency with commotion going on by neighbors very easily. Hope I never have to actually use it.
Giving it 4 stars as I never give 5 stars to start out. The only negative is that the weather has to always be on to get an update. But, if ever in a situation where i have to have updates, constant weather running isnt goijg to be a huge concern.

Very good job, at least initially, Running Snail!

Big Drive in movie addict here. We hit it on average once a week from opening weekend till last weekend. This being said I have been brutally harsh on my car batteries and alternators, 4 in eight years. Well the voice of reason came whispering in my ear and said "hey maybe you should get a radio instead of using the car". Brilliant! until I went looking for one, months and months of searching. Boom boxes or portable music players searched, nope they all need "D" batteries and I'm so not dealing with that. related searches gave me other types to look at. Sports radios had the right battery size but seemed too small and perhaps not the best for movie sound? Radio search turned up some decent ones and I knew the sound would be right as I have one of those in my garage, they had the right size battery too, so what is stopping me? Do I ready want to deal with yet another device that needs batteries, probably weekly or even bi weekly with my usage, answer not really. Sigh so month after month I peek in and see if anything catches my fancy until one week this little guy pop's up. Hum right batteries, right speakers, solar powered - sweet, manual hand crank - super sweet.
Forward to first try, at drive in had been solar charging all week. Turn it on and it's perfect sound is great made it through 2 movies without an issue. Second week, we get there and it doesn't turn on, no no no! I realize it was already in the on position "sorry mom I wanted to see how it worked" comes my youngest. It's okay honey we're just going to have to manual crank it (I had forgotten to stash some extra batteries in the car. So for 30 min we are cranking and passing as we get tired. it worked though almost got through the first movie before it started to die. the sound get softer and softer. However I was able to crank it as we watched and it worked very well.

Had this for a month now and use it daily while in my garage exercising.

Positives - Unit comes fully charged so I could test everything right out of the box. All of the unit's radio functions work well - NOAA, FM and AM all come in very clear and are easy to hear. Flashlight, SOS and reading light all work well. I put in AAA batteries - again, everything works as advertised. I HAVE NOT used this unit to charge a cell phone so cannot speak about it's function. I've recharged the radio and had no issues in regards to holding the handle or the radio. I don't try to turn it as fast as possible but maintain a steady speed while turning. The guide says 1 minute of charge equals 10 minutes of radio and that's about right.

Negatives - the radio dials are small and the tuning dial is very sensitive - perhaps in an area with fewer radio stations available, it wouldn't be as much of an issue but where I live, the radio stations seem to be right next to each other and it is sometimes difficult to get the exact one I want. I just take my time and tune s-l-o-w-l-y.

When the radio arrived, there was a chemical smell which I associated with the green rubberized case. I keep the radio in my garage on a shelf and as time has passed, the smell has lessened but not fully dissipated. Don't know if the smell would transfer if the radio was put in a backpack or other closed container. The smell isn't a deal breaker for me but something a buyer needs to be aware of.

This is a good little radio that I'm glad I bought. In hindsight, it may have been a good idea to spend the extra money and buy the unit with shortwave listening capabilities as well.

It's really cool I love it it's super easy to work with and the hand crank charge is easy as well but when I pulled out the antenna the WHOLE antenna came out and I lost one of the copper plates when it came out thats the only reason I gave it a 3 star I put the antenna back in with a little shove but the antenna wiggles when you pull it out and it pops back out if you pull too hard it

*****updated rating***

It's working great still I found that charging it to the fullest with the cable it lasts almost five hours with just the light and about three with "reading light" and radio on. the antenna I fixed using some sewing thread and a bit of super glue at the base to hold it in. it was great to have because we had a big storm hit us and helped us monitor what was going on with the weather band stations when our power went out
Thanks RUNNNING SNAIL you helped my family and myself out with your crank radio!

I bought this as a gift for my son who was going to be in parts of Canada where lack of access to electricity might become an issue. His first night camping there was a terrible rainstorm and he ended up back in his rental car. He didn't want to run the car battery down, so he used his RunningSnail solar ( crank with battery backup) unit to keep up with the storm and tune into a local radio station. When he got back from his trip, he told me that he was so very grateful I had given him this unit. It was a lifesaver and even when the batteries were completely dead; he was able to slowly crank it and still hear the radio station and weather reports. A unit that can be depended on is a necessity, and this one is highly recommended. I forgot...The reading light is very bright and can light up a medium room size area. It also has a hook on it so that the unit can be suspended --like from the center roof of a tent. It is a little more expensive then some other " weather radios ", but it is well worth it.

Just used this during Hurricane Irma, it was a life saver! Our power went out this past Monday and stayed out until Thursday evening. As the storm raged outside, this radio provided clear and sorely needed updates. I never had to use the crank, the solar battery alone handled the load. Between this and a couple of solar powered flashlights I purchased we ended up in pretty good shape. Charging this device is easy - I simply sit it in a window in my man cave and let it catch the rays. Trust me, this works, and not because I think or hope it will - it's because during a hurricane it actually did!
