This salad is absolutely delicious! I thought it was wonderful when I had it in New Orleans, and that was years ago but I still remembered it all this time later. It is so hard to come by that I was willing to spend the extra money to buy this. I took a chance and ordered a bus Cooley bran this salad is absolutely delicious! I thought it was wonderful when I had it in New Orleans, and that was years ago but I still remembered it all this time later. It is so hard to come by that I was willing to spend the extra money to buy this. I took a chance and ordered another brand of Italian olives salad thinking that it couldn’t possibly be worth twice the money to buy this Central grocery brand. But I was wrong! Very wrong. The other brand of olive salad paled in comparison. I actually don’t even think that I can eat it after having tried and eaten the entire jar of Central grocery I’ll salad. Once you have this one you can never go back. The olives are only the best varieties, a combination of Hall and chopped olives, It is very heavy on the olives and light on the other vegetables, although it is the perfect combination. It also has just the right amount of spicy hotness and a beautiful combination of herbs and spices overall. While I may have to pare down on the use of this every day due to the price being so much higher than other toppings, I will never go back to any other brand of Italian olives salad. This is by far the best you can get! Bravo Central grocery for continuing centuries of excellence without compromising anything.!!
So good!! I first heard of Central Grocery when visiting NOLO about 25 yrs ago....had their muffaletta and have always remembered it as the best sandwich ever. Only recently did I decided to look here on Amazon, and there it was - a whole quart of this wonderful olive salad/sandwich dressing. I am so happy with it, enjoying it very much on my own Italian sandwiches and in anti-pasta salads. It is not spicy, as other brands that are call 'mild', so I am very happy with that. It truly is mild, but full of flavor. Their customer service is also outstanding, as I had to contact them for an issue with delivery (not their fault). Came very well protected/packaged. Highly recommend, will be purchasing again.
There is nothing i don’t like about this salad!! If you have never had a Muffaletta sandwich, oh what you are missing!!!
I am not a big fan of green olives but this is the bomb!! New Orleans in a jar!!
But don’t get just any olive salad.......it has to be Central Grocery to be the best ever. If I could give it 20 stars, I would.
Took a chance ordering this to make Mufaletta (is there really any way to properly spell this?) sandwiches for the first time at a gathering for groomsmen before the wedding. As in all things, the end result is only as good each ingredient. This choice was a solid VERY GOOD choice. It has only very sparse pieces of Kalamata Olives and a piece here and there of other veggies like cauliflower. The good -- taste was DELISH (even for people that did not love olives), and the sandwich was DELISH. Not so great -- we purchased and added quite a bulk amount of Kalamata Olives, and for use as a sandwich spread/layer, we needed to dice it up much smaller than it came in the jar (or it would have made the pieces fall apart). Def would buy again, but "some assembly required."
I have been wanting to try olive salad for some time now, and only after recently watching a video involving muffaletta on YouTube did I decide to finally snag some. I was a little wary about the $20+ price tag, but I have to say that it's probably worth it. As soon as I unwrapped the jar from its packaging, I grabbed a fork and took a little taste test even though it was at room temperature... I was pleasantly surprised, even though most of what was on top was green olives. Once I get deeper in the jar, I'll get a better assortment of things, but I already enjoy it. I have a store-bought jar of olive salad, and it doesn't even remotely compare to Central Grocery's product. The store-bought uses canola oil in addition to olive oil, so it has this very oily, greasy consistency, which I didn't find that Central Grocery's product had with its soybean oil/olive oil mix. From first impressions, this is definitely something I would purchase again; I have been using olive salad on everything lately, and now that I have a quality salad, my food is going to taste that much better.
Also, very quick shipping; I chose the free shipping option, and it still arrived only 3 days after placing the order. My one complaint is that there is no internal seal between the lid and the jar, and as such quite a bit of oil leaked out of the jar so it was a little messy unpackaging it. But, while unwrapping the bubble wrap (which there was plenty of; I don't think USPS could have broken the jar if they had tried to), all that leaked oil did make it smell delicious, so I guess it wasn't all bad.
Delicious product, speedy shipping, lots of packaging material... would definitely purchase again, no question about it.

Central Grocery is the Home of the Original Muffuletta. Located on Decatur Street in the middle of New Orleans' French Quarter, they are a third generation, old-fashioned grocery store founded in 1906 by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant who is famous for creating the muffuletta. Lined with shelves stocked with imported pasta and olive oil as the aroma of cured pork and aged cheeses fill the air, the shop hasn't changed over the years. They always make their muffulettas with meats sliced in house, locally baked handmade bread and THIS the family's Italian Olive Salad. Enjoy your own taste of New Orleans!
This is the real deal. If you want a muffaletta sandwich and don't live near somewhere that makes them, then buy this and make your own. There are other brands and I have found them to be good...but if you don't want to risk ruining your muffaletta experience, just get this. Imagine, inviting your friends and family over to share the muffaletta experience and you get some off-brand that falls short. You will ruin christmas!
So if you want to play it cool, just get this. Or not. I do want to try another brand. That pickle guy or something. Adventure!
Excelent flavor, quality ingredients cheaper than a trip to Nawlins but just. I made my own a few months ago and it was close. Decided to try the real deal. Very tasty. Tried it on a italian sub today. Buying fresh cut deli meats and cheeses tomorrow along with fresh bread for muffaletta. Not putting my jar in the fridge. With as high of oil content as it is, it will get thick, white and sludgy.
I decided to try making my own veggie muffaletta using veggie ham substitute, cheese, ciabatta bread, and Central Grocery Olive Salad. I'm very happy with the flavor of this olive salad and the general outcome of the muffaletta. My one small complaint is that the salad contains some whole olives, and they don't work very well as a sandwich spread. With that said, chopping up the few whole olives that I spoon out into smaller bits is easy enough to do.
I ordered this when I returned from New Orleans after enjoying muffallata at the central grocery. It's worth the high price to get the exact taste. I ordered several more jars as Christmas gifts.
The real deal from New Orleans. If you want to construct a REAL Central Grocery muffaletta sandwich (Sicilian delight) you will need this product to dress. Save the air fare and buy this gourmet product!
