A lot of the issues that I see in these reviews refer to the channel that the outlet is on. I received 2 outlets that we're on channel D. One remote could control both outlets. But that's not what I wanted. So I changed the channel on one to A instead. Took about 2 minutes.
Open the remote and outlet and youll see a chip with 16 pins. On the back side of the board, you'll see that one of the pins has a scratch on the board on the trace that this pin is connected to. This determines the address. In the outlet, the trace is labeled A, B, C or D. In the remote it is not. But the locations are the same in the remote and outlet.
To change the address: I was on D, so I shorted the C and D pins, which eliminated the scratched trace since they're now both connected to ground. This should be done on both the outlet and remote.
Now scratch the trace if the address that you want, therefore disconnecting it from ground. Just make sure that you choose a different trace than the one you just shorted. The scratched trace is now the new channel. Repeat on the remote.
It's very simple, but just do this at your own risk. When I get a chance I'll upload some photos.
Now that the channel is changed, I love this outlet. Works great in multiple locations.
The Woods 3255WD Outdoor Wireless Remote Control Outlet has to be one of the best with one of the best long range remote controlling for turning a device or product on & off when you need to or want to. I am using this product of Woods for use of turning my Flowtron Diplomat Bug zapping light on exactly & only when I want it on & then off exactly when I want it to be off such as during a rainstorm at night to protect it from moisture damage or when I wake up say anywhere from 2am to 5am & don't want it on anymore. I can do all of this from the comfort of my home with the simple press of a on or off button on the Woods Remote that belongs to this remote control outlet. It definitely works for long range control of the outlet even through double or triple walls as for my Flowtron Diplomat Bug Zapping Light is plugged into this wonderful remote control outlet inside my garage where there are many walls before that electrical outlet. I highly recommend this Woods Outdoor Wireless Remote Control Outlet over many other brands such as Etekcity, BESTTEN & Fosman. I have tried all of them for other wireless outlet controls & did not like any of them like I love & enjoy the use of my Woods 3255WD. I am now attempted to purchase & try the Woods 13569 Indoor Wireless Remote Control Kit 3 - Pack to see if they are or work as good as this one from Woods.
This product is amazing. The distance from the remote to the outlet control could likely be 100' if used outdoors. I used only indoors and from about 60 feet away. It works perfectly even though it transmits through several walls between the remote and the outlet control. This product is NOT a timer. The title and the description both say that it is, but it is not a timer. I did not want a timer anyway, so I am perfectly happy with my purchase. I have called the manufacturer to look into the Amazon posting. I will buy two more now that I know how well my first two worked! I don't know how many "channels" there are. When I bought my first pair, one was channel F and one was channel P so they do not interfere with one another even though they are in close proximity to each another. Highly recommended.
Before I bought this, I ordered some linked LED shop lights to put in my workshop because they were an Amazon deal of the day. The lights link together, but they turn on individually with a pull cord. Not even one main cord would turn them all on and off at once. That was not acceptable to me, because I didn't feel like having hanging strings in my shop, or having to turn them all on and off every time.
I wanted a solution to switch them all on and off at the same time. The plug I am using for the lights is in the rafters of the shop because I use the other plug in the outlet for the garage door opener. Because of that, I could not wire a switch on the circuit. I couldn't reach it, and I didn't want to turn the garage door opener off with the lights.
I considered getting a wifi-enabled outlet because home automation is cool, but wifi is spotty in my shop at best, and it just felt like more than I needed just to turn lights on and off. That's when I discovered this wireless remote control kit.
So far, this remote control kit has worked flawlessly. I have had no issues. I have not tried it outdoors, so I cannot comment on how weatherproof it is, nor will I ever be able to comment on that. It is going to stay inside.
My only real gripe is that the remote controller uses an odd battery -- A23. Turns out it's not hard to find on Amazon though. I just had never seen one before. It looks like half a AAA battery.
Besides the strange battery, I have no complaints with this unit so far (it's been a month or so). I am very happy with my purchase.
I love this thing! I didn't realize I bought a 2 pack and ended up with 4 but they are all on different channels so I kept them all and now I can light up anything! I wish the remote had one button instead of an on and off as I never remember which is which, or if they were different colors or something. It has a great range and I'm surprised how far it reaches! I use it to power my deck lights that I used to have to plug in to turn on in the dark. Now it's like having a light switch. I've got the chicken coop outfitted and Christmas lights too! It would be spectacular if they also had a timer but for the price, this is perfect.

I bought this to use outdoors in winter to turn on an oil pan heater for my car that sits on the drive way. Wake up push the button and the heater turns on. Hour later, start the car with warm oil. Those in the frozen wastelands of the northern United States know what I'm talkin bout! It makes a big difference in how fast the car warms up and reduces motor wear. The outlet and remote are what you expect, nothing fancy. I gave 4 stars because it is used for my oil pan heater, Christmas lights, and in summer a lamp in my man cave without fail. Would have given 5 if the On/OFF button had some white lettering or some indication of what is off and on. After 2 years I still have to push each button to figure out what is on or off. It has lasted in extreme cold and would work for anything you want to turn on or off with a remote.
I actively use about 4-5 of these in my home. It helps to operate 2 sets of heavy wire gauge string lights that support A19 standard bulbs, a display cabinet in a room, and a set of string lights outdoors. This is all happening within close proximity. I've never had an instance where interference caused one remote to toggle another set of lights without intention. Remote is subtle, small, light, and simple. The price on this item seems to ebb and flow based on some market dependency somehow. I recently put this item on a list and when I looked again, the price had gone down 20% and I pulled the trigger on buying it then. These supposedly can handle up to 1,100 watts. The heaviest load mine are bearing are string lights which host about a dozen 13-watt equivalent CFLs and they perform without issue. Durability (or at least the appearance of) is definitely a plus. For the narrow scope I use them for, I'd say it's definitely worth the price and the buy.

The Woods outdoor remote control outlet is an inexpensive way to remotely control AC-powered devices using a simple remote, but it is missing user adjustable channel selection. Each pair of outlet & remote are randomly assigned a channel at the factory. Unlike other devices, there are NO user accessible DIP SWITCHES to adjust the channel so you are stuck with what you get. If you were buying these in a store, you could see what channel it is set to (there are stickers on both the outlet & remote visible through the package) but if ordering online this isn't an option. This means that if you wanted to buy 2 of these and use one remote to control both outlets (or simply have a remote as a spare) this probably wouldn't work unless you happen to get 2 of them set to the same channel. This also means that neighbors who use the same channel could affect your control (and vice versa). I don't know how many channels are available since the manual does not specify. Remote range is stated as up to 60 feet.
THE GOOD:
+ Inexpensive
+ Has short plug with a few inches of cable, so you can use this in tight spaces (compared to similar other products where the body plugs directly into the outlet and may block the adjacent outlet).
+ Supposedly water resistant but I have not tested this. I am using this indoors so I can't comment on water resistance. Other reviews criticize the water resistance so I would not count on it.
+ Red LED on remote turns on when either on/off button pressed so you know it is working and the battery is OK. There is also a red LED on the outlet body which turns on when the device is supposed to be on so you can visually determine if it is working.
+ Comes with 12V battery in remote (remove plastic from battery contact before 1st use)
THE BAD:
- No channel selection.
- May not be very water resistant.
OVERALL, it is an inexpensive way to control a AC device. But I would like to have seen channel selection options for better flexibility. If you are using this for non-critical control and are willing to accept possible interference and the inability to easily replace a remote then this should work fine for you.
I hope you have found this helpful!
I have 3 of these units. I like them. At times, I have to double-check to see if the connected items turn on and off when tapping the buttons on the remote. Over time, you find out where you need to stand, aim the remote at, etc., to turn stuff on/off. I use 2 for Christmas decorations (one on the front porch and one in an attic window). The other one I use to turn on the string of lightbulbs in the attic when I need to inspect/work there. The one unit operating in the semi-enclosed porch area stopped working recently. It lasted just over a year (condensation issue?). That's disappointing -- hopefully the other two will keep working for another few years. I anticipate replacing all of them eventually with a wireless solution similar to the WiOn Outdoor Wi-Fi Light Control 2-Outlets, Wireless Switch, Programmable Timer 50049 A Wi-Fi solution will prevent the double-check process of seeing if lights actually turned on/off.
