StarKist Selects Solid Yellowfin Tuna Fillet in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 4.5 Ounce (Pack of 4)

My husband and I are not Paleo...but our diet is pretty similar. Lots of protein and very few carbs, and we eat lots of organic fruits and vegetables. One of my favorite lunches is a can of tuna, in olive oil, with capers, onions and olives. But the brand of fish I had been using switched to soybean oil instead, and it had a nasty flavor. I went to the supermarket, and found that most of the other brands were packed in soybean oil too! Came home and hit the computer and quickly found that Amazon was the place to shop for what I wanted, and StarKist Selects Solid Light tuna in extra virgin olive oil was precisely what I was looking for!
First of all, if you have been eating water packed tuna, you need to try this and discover the amazing taste difference! Oil keeps the tuna tasting fresh, and preserves the texture of the flesh. Water simply dilutes the taste and actually destroys the texture. The extra virgin olive oil has a light and delicate flavor that really compliments the tuna, and each can is a true 'slice' of the fish, not a mess of compacted flakes like some other brands.
The price is incredibly reasonable, and Prime will get this to your house in no time at all.
Try it and see the difference for yourself!

I have been purchasing Genova light tuna in olive oil from Amazon for a few years - it's the only tuna we preferred, light & packed in oil. However, the case price recently jumped to nearly double and so I decided to try this Starkist version. Despite the lower weight per can - 4.5 ounces vs. 5 ounces for Genova, the net weight of tuna is the same - 4 ounces. Why? Because there's less liquid in the can, the tuna is more tightly packed, and you get the same amount of delicious tuna protein. I tried my first can yesterday simply over greens with a bit of lemon juice and enjoyed it tremendously. Did not drain it, but used the small amount of EVOO to dress my greens. Just the right amount of salt, too - not overly salty. My new favorite!

Great price! Great flavor! If you haven't tried Yellowfin Tuna in olive oil, I highly recommend the StarKist brand. The flavor is stronger than traditional tuna, but if you like salmon and other such highly flavored fish you will like this.
My recipe: the tuna, and chopped mild onion, a couple small slices of pickled jalapeno chopped, and a tablespoon of mayonnaise mixed together and then serve on your favorite lettuce. We like Boston lettuce. For bread we have slices of sourdough. Of course rye would work well too.

If you have good fresh tomatoes where you live, then add them too!

We've always eaten "white" or "light" tuna in water, in recent years all of them seem to list "vegetable broth" as an ingredient. While I have nothing against vegetable broth, a family member's food allergies keep us from purchasing items with unknown or unspecified ingredients. We found this in the supermarket (but at a crazy high price per can). Yellow tuna is certainly a subtly different taste than we are used to -- it has more flavor than the usual white or light. I had not purchased tuna in oil for years, I always hated the over-oiled product. This tuna comes with just the right amount of Olive oil (probably because the oil is more expensive to begin with), there was no need to drain (or even rinse!) it before consumption, as compared to other tunas.

Solid Yellowfin Tuna has been shown to have less mercury levels than tuna that comes from white albacore. Yellowfin is also is normally wild caught and is sustainably managed and responsibly harvested under U.S. regulations. It also tastes good. White albacore tuna is also more expensive.

My son loves this tuna and we can't buy it where I live. The olive oil brings out the flavor much more than water. And, the olive oil is good for you. They try to tell us they are taking the oil out of the tuna for our own good but really it's just cheaper for the manufacturer. Most of the time we drain the oil off so we are just getting a small amount.

StarKist Seletcs yellowfin tuna in olive oil 4 pack: The product is great but no one should pay more than about 30 cents per ounce. you can get it in your local grocery store. I was very happy to pay amazon slightly more but there is no way Im paying three to four times as much. The current price for this is 80 cents per ounce at 14.48 for one four pack. I first bought this same product for about six dollars. Great product - way overpriced.

I love this tuna. It tastes great and is packed in olive oil, which is a big plus for those of us who like flavor. I wanted to order more today, but it apparently isn't being sold because some people had complained about it. I read the reviews from some disgruntled (probably overly picky) people who were upset about the consistency of the tuna. While it may be that you don't always get a solid chunk of tuna or sometimes it's packed a little looser than other times, you still get a whole can of tuna instead of a fourth of a can of flaked tuna and three quarters of water like the regular cans. I am really bummed that I can't order this right now because of the complainers of the world. If you don't like it, nobody forces you to order it. I hope Amazon has the good business sense to make this available again as soon as possible.

This tuna is a great. Tasty and makes the best tuna salad. Sadly, the price tends to fluctuate to double or almost triple randomly. Therefore, if you see it at a good price as an add-on item - jump on it, stock up and buy a few packs. Because in my experience, the price could triple by the next day!

This tuna is hard to find and is usually sold out so I was happy to find it on amazon for about the same price. I like tuna but this makes me love tuna. The garlic flavor is so good in it.
