Love these! There were a few bits of grittiness that were not chia seeds, but it was hardly noticeable and the overall quality of these seeds are great. They are tasteless, but so fun to try out in different recipes. I've started to make a sort of chai-like cinnamon pudding with these and it's delicious! I put some almond milk, some vanilla extract, and some cinnamon in there with the chia seeds and let it sit overnight and it absorbs the flavor and tastes almost like tapioca because of the chia seeds. I've used the seeds other ways, but this tends to be my favorite. I use it as a sort of post-meal dessert and it's very delicious and filling. Highly recommend these if you haven't tried them already! Even my picky husband enjoyed eating my cinnamon tapioca-like concoction. :)
I personally take about a tablespoon of seeds and put them in water and let them sit for a while. They will expand and have a jelly-like texture. They are hard to drink at first but once you start doing it on a daily basis it gets easier and they aren't so gross. I also put them in my nutri bullet but I feel like they are more affective in water. Make sure you stir the seeds because they WILL form this giant clump that is hard to break. They will also stick like crazy to the glass if you don't rinse it right after use. I suffer from kidney problems which leads me to be extremely fatigued at times and these help keep up my energy without the harmful side effects of energy drinks. Strongly recommend
The maker of this product has an excellent reputation for quality products and it holds true here. The seeds seem really fresh and should remain that way with a very secure resealable package that should be refrigerated.
I love the silky, soft texture of the seeds when they have been soaked. There is absolutely no taste to them but I "doctor" them with Celtic sea salt after soaking 2 tablespoons of seeds to 3 tablespoons of spring water that gives them a very nice flavor. Of course, they can be soaked in almond milk, kefir and the like.
If taken in the mouth dry, just let them sit there for a minute or 2 and they will develop that enjoyable "mush" and are easily chewed. It is recommended that they be eaten only after they have achieved the soft, silky texture so as to better absorb the nutrients.
After several days of enjoying them, I do notice a subtle rise is my sustained energy level for a while after eating them, but it is nothing dramatic.
I love adding chia seeds to my yogurt, and growing my chia Bob Ross, and then eating my chia sprouts. Navitas's chia seeds are fantastic. They are fresh; you can always tell by flavor, but by how many of the sprout in your sproutery or on your chia pet. All the seeds do. They have a good flavor, and give you that health kick and texture you want.
These are very clean. I have read some reviews of other brands which indicated people got twigs etc. I didn't encounter anything except chia seeds in this package.
I will continue with this brand - Navitas. It is a bit more expensive than some but I really prefer the twig-free option and considering how much you use for one serving this isn't that expensive.
I cannot detect any flavor and add them to smoothies daily - both fruit & green. I have also made chocolate chia pudding - YUMMY!! BF won't try them because of the texture but that's just chia seeds in general.
These are the black/grey variety from what I can tell. Some of the seeds do look white but I think maybe a shell has come off? Maybe not, maybe these are a mix of both black & white. Anyway - I'm very pleased and not going to try any other brand.

my girlfriend introduced me to these chia seeds and I was skeptical at first. When you hear the name Chia seeds you instantly go what?! These are the seeds those chia pets are made with?! While they infact are the same seeds, they do have a lot of wonderful properties which are good for your health. I'm not a huge seed period and I often would brush off seeds from poppy seed bagels and bread simply because I hated the texture.
From me being a picky eater I can tell you these things don't have any taste, and the texture isn't bad nor is it seed like which makes it easy for me to eat them on my food. I put these seeds on cereal, salads, yogurt and even in mashed potatoes.
Overall these little guys are great for your health and the price I paid for these on amazon was cheaper than the natural foods store.
Where to start on this one. These little seeds had been on my wishlist for at least three months before i actually bought them. I am a vegan and take my nutrition very seriously. All the hype about what a 'superfood' chia seeds were i figured this was just the next new thing. I did some research, looked at the nutritional benefits and facts and figured if i hated them it wouldn't be too long until i finished the pouch. I make cream of wheat in the morning with a tablespoon of flaxseeds, one cup of almond milk, one cup water, and 4 tablespoons of a nut mixture i made of raw almonds, cashews, walnuts, dried blueberries, cranberries and golden raisins. I purposely make it loose so i feel fuller longer. The chia seeds let me keep the volume of breakfast without adding too many calories. Now my cream of wheat is not so soup like and it has extra fiber protein and the good fats. I am pleased with this product and am going to contiune to use it.
I bought this after ready a lot of the positive healthy benefits it offers. I only use it in smoothies and making pudding but there are all sorts of recipes you can incorporate this product in.
Some of the great benefits of these seeds are:
Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids
High in Fiber
Rich in Antioxidants
Contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium which helps prevent hypertension and maintain weight
Offers the satiety or the feeling of being full
Gluten-Free (if that matters to you, I'm all for gluten)
Forms a gel when mixed with liquid and can replace eggs
Regulates your blood sugar
Lastly, unlike Flax-seeds, Chia seeds can be digested as a whole and no need to ground up
I put chia in everything. Its a great nutrient full of protein and other good stuff. Provides great dietary fibre. You only need a tablespoon in a large glass of any liquid, allow it to sit for 20 minutes or overnight and you will have this great drink or add more chia and you have a wonderful pudding. You just need to allow it time to absorb the liquid. I make my smoothies the night before, store them in the fridge and they are nice and thick in the morning. Wonderful healthy instant breakfast or lunch.
Since I have been on the FODMAP diet for GI problems, I have found it difficult to get enough fiber but with chia seeds I am able to get enough fiber without creating other GI problems that I had with other fiber supplements and probiotics. In addition, I eat 4-6 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the day and drink plenty of water. The key, for me, is to start the day with chia seeds in my cereal- I have two tablespoons- and then add raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries. At first all those seeds bothered me but now I don't even notice them.
I started this diet in Nov. 2012 and have been on it for 6 months. It took several months for the chia seeds to make a difference for me but now I am free of distention and abdominal pain and very grateful.
