GE Personal Security Window/Door Alarm, 4-Pack, DIY Home Protection, Burglar Alert, Wireless Alarm, Off/Chime/Alarm, Easy Installation, Ideal for Home, Garage, Apartment, Dorm, RV and Office, 45174

We bought these as just one extra safety precaution for our house. We ended up putting them on our basement egress windows just in case someone decided to break in. We will also put one on our storage area downstairs as well.

We did a test of these when we first got them, and man are they loud! Which is great when you're looking at items like this. My husband went downstairs and tested them out, and even sitting in the living room watching TV with all doors to downstairs shut, I could easily hear them go off as he tested each one.

These seem like high quality little protection devices. They come with super strong tape to stick to whatever surface you want them to go on. They stay secure and don't move. However, when you take them apart (such as open a window or door) be sure to plug your ears because there is no way somebody is sneaking in.

Pros: Good loud sound, very high quality 3M type tape to secure, easy to install and set up

Cons: None. We may end up buying another pack of these.

These little things are great and they have a chime and alarm feature which is LOUD. Batteries come with it. The only thing is that I don't trust sticky tape or glue so I looked to see if there was a way to drill a small hole and screw them in - and there is, and I used my cheap drill press and a small bit big enough for a #4 stainless pan head sheet metal screw to fit through. The hole for the main unit can be where you take out the screw already there that holds the back to the front. (you can't see it unless you take off the battery cover for the 4 LR-44 batteries.

On the magnet unit, only the top half of the little magnet unit that fixes to the door frame has the magnet. You can shine the thing under a bright light and see where it is. Just drill the other half. Get some #4 screws like I said (I used 1" and 1 1/4") and just mark the spots to drill on the door and frame with a thin scratch awl or tiny brad nail while holding it in position. Drill the wood and install the pieces and screw. They won't fall down next year in your basement when the tape finally gives way and the thing wakes you up in the middle of the night.

Decent product for the price. 1 out of the 4 did not work out of the package. It was missing the plastic battery tab you have to pull prior to use so maybe the batteries were just dead...
Depending on the framing and direction your door opens some of them may have to be mounted differently i.e which part attaches to the stable surfaces vs the moving one. If your door has an edged frame at all, like the pic I attached of my front door, there is absolutely no way to make this work where the magnets will align. I tried every possible side and angle of the door; kind of a bummer that the front door is the one it won't work for, so I'll have to find a different type for that. Overall, the ones I did attach to the sliding doors work great. I was worried the single chime mode wouldn't be noticeable enough but now I almost wish there were a volume setting on it, it's loud! There will be no missing it, which is the point. I have 3 small kids and a couple dogs. My daughters room has a sliding door out to a deck that I always worry about her wandering onto at night (I put that one on alarm mode), and they like to go out and leave the front door open which is a huge worry given that I have 2 large dogs that are not dog-friendly and we live in a neighborhood where everyone's lets their pets wander around without leashes all day. Now I can better tell when the door is opened so I can make sure it gets closed! For the doors we use frequently I change it from chime to alarm mode at night, I really like that it's as easy as flicking a switch to go between them, huge bonus. Overall it's a good product, but only works with standard framing. I plan to order more for our windows soon.

Will buy again. Highly recommend.
PROS:
1) Price. Calculates to approximately $ 4 each
2) Durable. I installed an alarm on a frequently used door a couple of years ago and batteries are just giving out. FYI: Batteries around $2
3) Reliable. As long as you install it according to the instructions and so long as someone doesn't turn it OFF, then rings every time the door/window is opened. I put a clear piece of tape over the leveler to turn OFF because someone in my household kept turning it OFF.

CONS:
1) Really loud. (I don't believe there is an option to lower the chime or alarm sound.)
2) My package was missing 1 mounting tape for the fourth alarm.

These Little Battery operated alarms are Great for what they are, Sure they arent ADT alarms but they do give you a decent amount of Peace of Mind! Description

The simplest security system you will ever use! GE Magnetic Indoor Window Alarms let you know any time a door or window in your house is opened. These easy to install alarms require no wiring and has 4 LR44 batteries included so they can be used right away. Simply stick these to any window that opens and feel secure knowing that your home will alert you when needed.

For the cost of these they are a good purchase. The build quality feels good and they work as advertised. Yes if the door or window is closed the alarm will shut off but most intruders will be long gone from the noise these make. I ordered 3 packs and my only complaint so far is that one pack was missing one of the double sided tape for the unit but I don't think that warrants a star deduction. Will see how they hold up. Directions say batteries should last a year between change outs

Great basic alarms. Dual function. Has a switch on the side that allows you to chose between a loud constant loud Alarm or Door Chime to alert when someone has opened the door. Sounds similar, if not the same, as when you walk into a corner store.

If you use these for at home, they can be very loud, which is great for those that are hard of hearing or to get your attention in just about any room in the house.

All 4 come with batteries, so they are ready to use out of the package.

I would highly recommend to REMEMBER to clean the surface that you stick these to. That with anything that you stick to any surface. Also, use a blow dryer to heat up the surface that you stick each piece to. Once you apply each piece, hold it in place with your fingers or hand for about 60 seconds to ensure that these will stay stuck to the surface. The heat will help ensure initial stickiness for long term use.

We just recently purchased a home with a pool and I am terrified of the kids going outside without my knowing. We didn't have a lot of extra money available to put hardwired alarms on all the bottom windows and doors so we gave these a try. These are awesome. They were easy to install and are extremely loud. Anytime I forget the alarm is turned on and open the door, my kids all cover their ears! I love that I can turn it off when I am going in and out (like grilling) and then turn it back on when I am done.

Great easy way to add some safety alarms to any windows or doors!

Small but loud. Works great to let you know if someone is visiting in the night without an invitation with the intention of permanently borrowing your household items without asking permission. The chime function works great but is pretty loud as well so we generally don't use that option. You will forget it's there and blast yourself quite a few times before you remember to turn it off before leaving the house. But works great. Simple to install, although I used some super glue in area's where I didn't feel the double sided tape wasn't quite sturdy enough.

For the price these are good. Obviously the downside is you have to manually turn them off when you don't want the alarm to go off. Work great for windows you don't open or close much, but for doors I would avoid, if you set it to "alarm" at night then the next morning you forget to manually move it to "off" you get a nice loud sound. Sound is nice though
