Bought this laptop after doing many hours of research.... So far I love it!
Pros:
Super fast boot time.
Very little bloatware.
Upgradeable Ram.
Additional hard drive slot (I got the 250gb ssd version and will probably add a 1tb hdd)
While running multiple Google Chrome tabs, watching a video on YouTube, and running a full anti-virus scan the laptop was still silent (fans weren't even noticeable).
Laptop stays cool on your lap.
Keyboard is quiet.
Laptop is super thin and light weight which makes if very portable.
Cons:
Display isn't that great (this is something I didn't really care about). For $620 you probably won't be able to find any laptop with these specs and a great display. There's always going to be a tradeoff. I chose to downgrade on the display and processor (i got the 8th gen i5 version which is more than enough power for me).
Webcam kind of sucks - This is something I really don't care about since I'll probably never use it.
Keyboard flex - Almost all ASUS laptops have a little keyboard flex and it was the main thing that scared me about buying this laptop. After using the laptop for a few days, I can officially say that I'm not even bothered by it. It's very comfortable to type with!
No numeric keypad - Again something I didn't really care about.
Not sure about battery life yet but I'm thinking you can get 6-8 hours out of this thing if you fool around with some settings. This wasn't a big deal to me since I'm always a few feet away from an outlet if I need a charge.
Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase! There's so many laptops out there and almost all of them have mixed reviews (which makes it incredibly difficult to pick one).
I'll give a 1 month, 6 month, and 1 year update (if I can remember to do so)
I have been searching for two weeks for a laptop that main purpose to do presentation stuff, watching film and surfing on internet and it is perfect for students who don't want to play games on laptop. And on my opinion there is nothing like this laptop that has a good price/performance ratio.
I bought the i5 8250 with 256 ssd version for my sister. It came in box that has lots of "free" space and they even didn't put a "airbag" to absorb impact but it came in good condition.
Here are the pros and cons that i have been seen:
Pros
+ It's realy fast because of the ssd
+ so quite when you are using it for little things like surfing. If you are using it for something bigger than the fan is making little sound but when it cooled to some level it stops immediately. Of course lack of hard drive is bigger portion of this quietness.
+ it's great screen i love it. Especially the thin bezels make the screen look much bigger. It is doing that while let you believe it is smaller than a 15'6 laptop from looking outside. Asus used some magic here.
+ writing with keyboard feels good if you don't push too much. (Its bending inward)
Cons
-Why someone put on/off button near the delete button? I had to disable the shut down from button
-WINDOWS 10 TAKES ABOUT 49GB SPACE. WHEN I OPENED FIRST TIME IT HAD 207GB FREE SPACE IN THE SSD
-The keyboard back light could be more properly adjusted. You can see the backlight led between keys.
-WHEN IT CAME IT HAS LITTLE BEVEL ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE KEYBOARD IT DIDN'T DISTURB MY SISTER BUT IT DID ME. THATS WHY I CUT ONE STAR.
-KEYBOARD BEND INSIDE WHEN YOU PUSHED LITTLE BIT. As I saw every new model Asus laptops have same problem.
-The touchpad doesn't feel good.
# i'll edit if i found something good or bad.
This laptop is incredible! I originally thought that since the video card isn't that great (The can you run it website told me I wouldn't be able to run most games even on the minimum settings) that I'd have issues with gaming. But so far I've been able to play everything I've tried. Even Final Fantasy 14, and I generally keep unity up at all times and even then no lag. Its crazy fast. Will definitely be sticking with Asus.
As an older person going back to college, a laptop was essential. My old HP was okay, but a little slow, and was definitely aging out at 7 years old. An adventurous kitty who managed to step in pancake syrup and then leap onto the keyboard put the final nail in the HP.
I have had the VivoBook for a week, and love it! It has more than enough memory to store anything I need for class. The display is great. Setting up was a breeze, as audio instructs you on what to do to get everything set up. The keys feel comfortable, with good spacing. A silicone keyboard protector protects from sticky substances. (I ordered separately, and it fits perfectly while looking amazing.
The computer is lightweight. It is fast. Typing is a dream, especially with the lighted keyboard that has 3 levels of lighting as well as the capacity to shut off. My fingerprint is scanned instead of typing in a password. I cannot find a negative about this computer. I highly recommend it for students. The price is reasonable, and it is easy to see why so many computer sites rate this VivoBook highly.
The fact that the computer is attractive is a bonus. I have the icicle gold, and it simply looks classy. the surfaces are sturdy, and textured so as not to show fingerprints. I love it, but will update this review in a few months just to let you know how it is holding up. I have great expectations.
Good for day to day use and a bit of gaming. Only con is it needs to handled with care and the display wobbles a bit whenever u open the laptop

Nice laptop. Fast start (especially after unchecking the 'fade' options (found in: " Control Panel / Performance Information and Tools / Adjust visual effects"). Finger print feature is quirky but once you get it to recognize it, it goes to the desktop lightning fast. I DON'T like the keyboard. I'm a typist and like a firm keyboard while typing. I noticed that while typing the keyboard has some "give". Also, I wish the keys were not so flat.... I'm use to feeling some height and mild key pressure while typing, not so with this keyboard. It does not have a lot of bloatware. I uninstalled the 'trial' Microsoft Office software and installed my own MS Office 2007; installed flawlessly (you will need an external DVD drive). Another change I made to Windows is changing the 'fade' when clicking to other documents. This 'fade' feature in Windows is an annoyance for me; I like to instantly get to my documents when I 'click', so I changed the settings from "fade" (uncheck the option to fade screens) - you get a much faster response this way. I like the FREE computer games and other stuff that the Microsoft App Store offers (app pre-installed) . This is my first Windows 10; I like it, (they returned the "Start" button) (I hated Windows 8). Even though this machine has a SSD drive, I still hear something like a fan blowing (maybe it's a fan for the cooling?).
I quite like this laptop. My laptop that I upgraded from win8 to win10 had a defective hard drive, and rather than going through the process all over again (I didn't get a chance to create installation media before I had to revert it), I decided to get something new.
It's a slick laptop that has the appearance of a macbook. I've seen reviews describing the color as more silver than gold and yeah, that would be correct. In the light it definitely has a gold tint but otherwise it's very brushed silver. No CD drive, so I'll unfortunately have to purchase an external, but it's lightweight and compact - it goes into my luggage easily when I travel. Keyboard is super nice with chicklet-style keys that are easy to handle. Booting is SUPER fast and I love the Windows Hello feature to sign in - although you really do have to work to train the computer to recognize your fingers. It takes awhile to get used to but I find it to be a really nice addition.
I'm very happy about the SSD drive, since my past computers have been HDDs. However, I'm not sure if the SSD drive is making a sound or if there's a fan, but there's DEFINITELY a noise coming from this computer. It sounds like a drive or a fan constantly restarting. I can't describe the sound but you can definitely hear it and it's noticeable. It sounds like a drive constantly booting up and restarting. Or it might be the fan. I'm not sure if it's something to worry about, but I will keep an eye on it.
Other than that, the display is not fantastic. The screen is very nice, but I'm an artist and I draw with a tablet, and I find the colors to be lighter than they actually are when I save my work and export it. Also, I've had to squint at the screen/tilt the screen to see what I'm looking at. Might just be my bad eyes, though.
Anyway, I'm happy with this computer. Asus has made a ton of improvements since the last two laptops I've had from them, both in software and hardware (my other two laptops came with Windows 8 - Windows 10 is a vast improvement). I recommend this laptop if you're looking for something more involved for a good price.
This is a really great laptop for the price, and just in general. I've had it for about a month and so far the only things I'm bothered by are the fact that the battery doesn't last as long as it's stated when not plugged in, but does charge up pretty fast. And I saw other people have said this as well, and it's true, the speakers do suck. The sound itself isn't terrible but it's just so low. Full volume is super quiet and that's annoying as a musician and tv watcher.
But I'd say the pros outweigh the cons. It's a super fast machine, starts up pretty much instantly. I don't use a lot of heavy software, but I do have things like FL studio and that runs fine.
The display is nice, but sometimes reds and oranges and pinks show up a little pixely. Don't know what that's about. But nothing too obvious. Maybe it's just me.
The fingerprint sensor is alright. I'd say it's just a cool extra feature. Sometimes it takes awhile to read but when it does you're signed in instantly.
The laptop itself doesn't make any noise and doesn't overheat either. It's very light and looks really professional and sleek. I'm kinda in love with it. It has just enough space for my needs, doesn't lag, and has a nice display. Some people were complaining about the keyboard but I like it. Feels fine to me. Even thought the laptop is light, it still feels sturdy.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. I hope this one lasts me awhile.
I'm a writer and sometimes writing is better with a beautiful material on my hands. That's what I've got with this model. I wanted a gorgeous design, Apple-ish, and the feeling of writing on my Asus Vivobook makes me write even more.
Notice that I researched for dozens of models for sure. This was the best match, and not because of its more fashion colors -- I picked the more conventional tone, golden pearl-ish -- but because of details that really proved me right so far.
About that, I love the design -- VERY elegant. Keys are good to type. If you install any app to reduce blue screen, it makes even more beautiful to look at the screen. Not to mention that boarders are thin and the laptop when closed looks like a 14" screen one.
When i work out of a wall socket, battery longs for at least 4 hours -- usually latest Firefox browser opened with three to five windows, plus LibreOffice, plus Notepad, plus Deezer. It has run an entire Netflix movie without getting high temperatures or low battery.
The adapter is small, almost the size of a traditional mobile phone. That impressed me as well.
So far, in love with this product. I bought this to last ten years, let's see what happens.
Final note: I hate Windows 10 and I'll never be pleased to purchase a OS that forces me to see adds. So the first thing I provided after putting my hands on my Asus Vivobook and register on Windows stuff was to install a second partition for the newest Linux Mint version (Tessa 19.1). It was very easy. It takes less than twenty seconds to reboot. You should try Linux too. I'm not a geek or something. Just love freedom.
Congratulations to Asus. I hope you grow business in Brazil.
I have now had this laptop for a couple months and I love it! No problems at all, except for when I couldn't get the keyboard backlight to work which turned out to just be a new driver I had to download. It works fast and and the SSD is worth the extra money because of how quick the computer starts up. Solid buy, and perfect Mac alternative for anyone who is looking for something cheaper!
