It is hard to find a laptop with a DVD / CD drive and one that offers a solid state hard drive and I spent hours looking. This is the best laptop for the price that meets the requirement just mentioned. The nice thing is you select the specs that work best for you. I feel strongly about having a solid state drive since it dramatically shortens the wait time for the computer to boot up. You will really notice the difference once you start loading things onto your computer and it starts to age.
I went with 8GB of RAM and a 512 SSD. It boots up in a few seconds and you are up and running. For tasks such as using word processors, internet and streaming this computer is fast.
For a PC laptop in its price range, the build of the laptop feels very good. I've only had it for a couple of days but it feels like a well-built product. Especially compared to the last laptop I purchased in this same price range. My kids mostly use it and they are a little rougher on things. Knowing that I would still purchase this laptop if I could do it over.
This laptop is solid for the price. If youre looking for a budget laptop that doesnt need to perform serious tasks like video editing, 4k streaming, etc, then this is your laptop. I went with the 8GB RAM, the 1TB HDD, and no optimization. I am slightly regretting my decision not drop the extra $$ to go with an SSD. At the very least, you should upgrade to the SSD if you dont upgrade the RAM.. Bootup times with the HDD arent TOO bad. The laptop could be a bit snappier, but thats probably my fault for not getting the SSD.
The laptop overall looks and feels like a quality product. To me, it looks more expensive than it actually is. Its very sleek and I love the black color (or silver/grey) when it comes to electronics. It is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, though, especially the screen. Make sure you have a soft (terry) cloth on hand for the screen. The screen has a bit of a glare issue and has a very strict viewing angle before colors wash out. Its almost unusable outdoors, extreme glare and dim screen. Considering the price, Im not complaining, just mentioning these things. It has wireless 2.4ghz b/g/n. It is not 5ghz capable which is a bit of a let down.
This laptop also has 3 USB ports (two of them are USB 3.1), a DVD-RW drive, a 720p webcam, SD card slot, a gigabit ethernet port, and kensington lock. Overall, solid laptop for the price.
I was searching for a laptop for several days on Amazon to replace my five years old HP. My IT friend highly suggested a solid state driver, as it runs 10x faster than traditional hard driver. He also said a 4gb ram is good for web browsing, 8gb can handle most daily work, HD videos. If working with some professional softwares, like design and data analysis, a higher ram is require. I only do some typing work and watch live stream on laptop, so I got a 8gb ram and 256gb ssd.
I received the laptop on the second day with prime, that surprised me! The laptop looks like a solid product. it has DVD rom, numeric keypad, web cam. It can easily connect with a TV for live steam. It runs really really FAST. After first time setup, you can enter login screen in 30 sec! If there is a shortcoming, it doesn't have a touchscreen. But for this price, I will give it five stars for sure.
This product is as advertised. I paid for 8G and 256G SSD. It's very fast and efficient. Great value and quality for the price. So far we had no issues and are pleased with the purchase.
We bought this for our HP loving son. He says it works perfectly. He is a gamer and it plays his games fine, so I suppose it was worth it.

I did not get a touch screen and I do not play a lot of games, but this laptop is wonderful for all the typing I do and the research I do. I did use the recommended upgrades and I am very pleased with that, I did not have to do much when it came to setting it up because that was done for me after answering a few questions. I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone.
I ordered a custom (semi?) computer and I got what I ordered (See headline above). I've had this laptop for just 4 weeks but so far no problems. My old laptop computer (Lenovo) was showing a "critical error" and shutting down, then reopening at least once a week, so time to get a new one. Both are Windows 10, so it was super easy to transfer files using a memory stick. No problem reloading MS Office 2007 using my disc. I'm amazed that this is still accepted and working, I do have my key. No problems loading my two printer drivers (also had the discs). It works; it's fast - so far it's great! The processor is pedestrian, but so what - it works and it's fast.
I configured my laptop with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB solid state hard drive. I thought the price was reasonable for the configuration I ordered. Upon arrival, I used a thumb drive to install Ubuntu Linux on the laptop instead of the stock Microsoft Windows operating system. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 which is the long-term support (LTS) release. Besides the typical secure boot hurdle the installation went smoothly.
This is my second computer with a solid state hard drive. They make a world of difference. I can't imagine ever going back to using a regular hard drive. Ubuntu has been running wonderfully on this laptop. I am a software engineer who works primarily in C/C++ on Linux servers. I do substantial software development directly on this laptop as well and it does a great job.
My heavier applications like the Keybase social encryption software and the Vivaldi web browser run effortlessly. I am thoroughly impressed with the performance of this laptop. The fan on my previous laptop used to run quite frequently and would get rather hot under regular load. This laptop doesn't break a sweat at all. I'm not even sure it has a fan because I never hear it run and the laptop itself stays very near room temperature. I would definitely recommend this laptop. It's one of my all time favorites.
I bought one for my daily use and I love it. It meets all my needs and you really can't beat the price.
Fairly thin, satisfactorily weight, screen is clear and bright. Keyboard is easy to type on / no issues and touch pad is large. Would definitely recommend to other people looking for a new laptop or if I wanted to buy another one!
