Wild Planet Wild Sardines in Water with Sea Salt, Keto and Paleo, 3rd Party Mercury Tested, 4.4 Ounce (Pack of 12)

Wild Planet Wild Sardines in Water with Sea Salt, Keto and Paleo, 3rd Party Mercury Tested, 4.4 Ounce (Pack of 12)

The best I've had so far! I haven't found another brand to match Wild Planet's quality and sustainable practices. I eat a can of these almost everyday, sometimes two cans at one sitting.

Wild Planet's sardines do not have a bad fishy taste or smell; less than most canned tuna in my opinion. I've tried a cheap brand of sardines ($1 per can from the local retail giant) and they were horrible! I've also had more expensive imported brands of sardines and I still prefer Wild Planet. If you are reluctantly trying sardines for the first time, start with Wild Planet. If you have trouble getting Wild Planet's down, chances are that you will like another brand even less. Most people I know, have trouble eating sardines because of the appearance. It doesn't bother me and I prefer sardines over tuna. Also, sardines (and other small fish such as anchovies and herring) are much safer than tuna when it comes to mercury contamination.

I've tried several different sardine recipes, though I still prefer these plain, right out of the can, with a little unbleached sea salt. I ordered two cases (12 cans per case) of Wild Planet sardines a month ago and I am placing an order for another two cases today. Before ordering a case of these, pick up a can from your local grocery store and give them a try.

Wild Planet Wild Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Lightly Smoked, 4.375 Ounce Tin (Pack of 12)

I wasn't initially sure about Wild Planet products as I always used to get Chicken of the Sea. One of my friends pushed me to try WIld Planet because it was more healthy and apparently better for the fish population. Although I can't speak on that, what I can say is this is the best canned sardine I've had in my life! The Sardines are smoked which gives them this flavor that no other brand has. After buying this case, im never going back to Chicken of the Sea.

This is coming from someone who hates sardines! I decided to purchase these after being told they would be good for my joints ( I'm a powerlifter) due to the high amounts of omega 3s they contain. First off I LOVE the quality! They are wild caught, sustainable and they DONT replace they fish oil with water which defeats the whole purpose! Also they taste like smoke salmon not a bucket of salt water like my past experiences! All i do is add some avocado on top and I'm good! This brand is truly great quality and I will continue to buy these!

Three main reasons why I chose and recommend Wild Planet sardines:

1) Tastes good!
I am not exaggerating when I say that Wild Planet sardines tastes way better than other brands that I have tried so far. I am a sardine fan, and I have tried a lot of other brands. Wild Planet sardines are very firm and meaty, slightly smoky, juicy and delicious. The sardines are very well cleaned and scale free.

2) Good for your general health.

a) No BPA( Bisphenol A) used as lining inside the cans.
Recently there has been lot of concerns about BPA leeching into food that many companies have switched to BPA free plastics and BPA free cans. Wild Planet is one of them. For concerns about the effects of BPA,see an article on this link. http://www.webmd.com/children/environmental-exposure-head2toe/bpa

b) This is a nutritionally dense food.
I would go as far as considering sardines as a "superfood". These are some numbers to give you an idea of how nutritious a can of Wild Planet sardines is. Please note that all these values are PER CAN because I usually eat a whole can(4.375oz) at a time. One serving size is listed on the can as 2 oz/serving, totaling about 2.5 servings/ can. In all seriousness, I don't know of anyone that would really open a can of sardines this size, measure out 2 oz to eat, so here it goes.
-- Excellent source of protein -25g /can
-- Excellent source of Omega 3 that you can EAT instead of taking pills. Each can contains 313mg EPA Omega 3 and 688mg DHA Omega 3. This is comparable to 2 soft gels of Amazon's best-selling omega 3 nutritional supplements:Nordic Naturals - Ultimate Omega, 1000 mg, 180 softgels But why take it in pill form when you can eat as part of one of your meals with all the added extra nutrients right?
-- Excellent source of Calcium - over 50 % Daily Value per can.( compare that to a serving of 8oz of 2% milk which on average has about 30% Calcium in it)
-- Excellent source of Vitamin B12 (over 100% DV), and Vitamin D(over 100%DV).
-- Good source of Iron (over 25%DV)and Selenium (over 50%DV) and
-- Also, as a bonus, contains Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a nutrient found in the body cells and believed to have an antioxidant and immune system boosting properties.

3) Good for the Ocean
I have been trying to be more responsible with my food choices. I try to eat seasonal, local and organic whenever possible. And as far as seafood, although a little bit more expensive, I try to get them "wild caught" whenever I can. However, recently I discovered that it is not enough for something to be "wild caught". Two other factors are also important.

--HOW THEY ARE CAUGHT.
Some of the things I have learned are indeed eye opening, and really help me be more aware and environmentally responsible as a consumer on what and where to purchase my seafood products if I really care about protecting the oceans. Wild Planet uses "free school" purse seine method which means NO FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices) are used. Please see this video about FAD and why they are devastating for the ocean in destroying diversity of species.

--WHERE THEY ARE CAUGHT
This second factor is just as important because because in certain areas, combined with unsustainable methods of fishing such as one described above, there are major concerns of overfishing to the brink of certain species of fish becoming extinct in that particular area. According SeafoodWatch, Pacific sardines are rated "Best Choice" compared to Atlantic or Mediterranean sardines because there's little bycatch and low habitat impacts.

Wild Planet is in compliance with the green standards of Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, Blue Ocean Institute, Ocean Wise, Sea Choice and Fishwise. Greenpeace has also evaluated Wild Planet tuna products and has rated them as a top brand for sustainable sourcing policies. - See more at: http://www.wildplanetfoods.com/thewild-way/on-the-boat/#sthash.0pWGQHzI.dpuf

To wrap up, I love these sardines by Wild Planet. The fact that the company is very environmentally conscientious makes me love the product even more. I am currently on my second case ordered through Amazon's convenient sub and save. Compared to buying at grocery stores (if they even carry them), the price on Amazon is very good. The ones I saw at a Whole Food Market in my town was priced at $3.29/ can. So, tastes good, good for you, good for the ocean and not to mention good price here, what more could you ask for?

I have an avocado sardine toast recipe that I call my "power lunch" - it really does last all day and I don't get hungry in the middle of the day. These sardines are tasty and I like how they are combined with olive oil to pack even more nutritional punch. Love having a shelf stable protein option.

Oh, my. These are the best sardines I've tasted in my entire life. No joke. I have tasted ones from many different brands, and they pretty much tasted the same. I do not eat anything in cottonseed, canola, or soy oil because those are toxic and cause atherosclerosis and chronic inflammation, so I looked to olive oil. I found these and thought they were going to be the same flavor, but was absolutely shocked by what I received. These do not even resemble the store-bought sardines. These have a rich, velvety flavor with an exciting tang, and a light, pleasant, salty aftertaste that swims in your mouth for a couple hours. They are filling, too!

I'll be buying more of these in the future.

On the Keto diet, I really like these sardines. Great taste but not too salty and in olive oil. Plus, the lemon flavor is a really nice flavor touch that makes these out-of-the-can good as a snack or meal. Shipping was super fast and although I received the wrong flavor the first time, they immediately sent me the correct one and didn't charge me for the others. Great product, great service, I'll be buying these here for a long time!

There are plenty of reviews here that focus on the company's practices and the health benefits, so I just want to add that these fish are total yum! Consistent, firm, lovely sardines in a tasty oil. Great product, Wild Planet, thanks :)

I like them well enough that I'm seeking out ways to enjoy them other than my typical straight out of the can approach. I have a friend who suggested crisping sardines in olive oil, with a bit of salt and pepper, so I just emptied the can into a pan and sauteed them up! I put them on some wilted spinach and made my tummy very happy :) Will also be trying some of the suggestions found in other reviews - thanks!!

First of all I researched what was basically the healthiest fish to eat and sardines are it along with a few others. They have comparatively the highest percentages of Omega oils and protein along with the lowest amounts of methel-Mercury. I used to work in a seafood Dept at a high end store, previously worked in Japan and Hawaii and can eat tuna in any form but it isn't a safe fish to eat anymore and some species are actually near extinction. I am buying them for myself but also my 4 year-old so I have tried to be very careful and selective. Over the last several months or more I have literally tried all of the different brands of sardines as well as all of the different types sold by wild planet. For me these are the best because the quality of the fish is very good and the company seems to maintain high standards in several areas. For a while I preferred the ones in water but I found these (lightly smoked in oil) seemed to have a better and more mild flavor and also a little better texture. I also like that these are larger in size than some other brands but while that is good for me, I think my son likes the ones that are slightly smaller like king Edward which I also thought were very good and a brand I remember from growing up and would also trust. The price per case here on Amazon is considerably cheaper then buying them individually in the store and is very convenient to get them subscribe and save.

I bought a pack of 12 (lightly smoked, in EVOO) and LOVE them. These are fairly large and meaty and therefore it’s super-easy to pull out the spine, if you’re so inclined. These small Omega-3 bombs really are the perfect snack food: ideal to put in your pocket or bag while traveling (add a plastic spoon, a napkin, and put everything in a small Ziploc bag so that you’ll have an oil-free and cut-free way to dispose of the whole kit & kaboodle after your nosh). The smoked flavor is so light that I never notice it. I have actually tried a much more expensive brand of sardines (recommended in some cookbook or other) not too long ago, and did not find them to be any tastier than these Wild Planet sardines. So, in many ways, these are a great value: same taste as a much more “fancy” brand, and I’ve paid less than half of what I would have to pay in my grocery store here in the middle of nowhere.
