This would've been a five star product if only they'd make it with a replaceable battery.
I bought a few of these and love them, but one just ran out of battery so I took it apart. I was pleasantly surprised to find a CR2032 button cell, I buy my coin batteries in bulk from Amazon.
No soldering was involved.
The speaker is located to the right of the key ring hole, if the Tile's speaker fails to work after taking it apart just push in( on the speaker side). I suppose some 30awg wire can be soldered to hardwire the speaker contacts, It wasn't necessary, but it's an option if you can't get the speaker contacts to line up again.
I'm just going to purchase one of those leather cases so I won't need to reseal the Tile completely.
I only used a very small dab of glue on each corner so it'll be easier to open up again for next time.
Thank you.
For 25 years I have helped my husband look for his wallet. EVERY DAY. No matter what system I tried to introduce him to, what basket was on the counter just for his wallet...was a dismal failure. EVERY DAY FOR 25 YEARS. I gave this tile to him for Christmas. It has been the best two months of my life.
I bought this for my wife since she regularly loses her phone whether in the car or somewhere in the house. She has also lost her keys on a few occasions so I thought this would be perfect for her.
Setting it up was really simple using the app and the app has a nice interface. It works ok overall. The only issue is that it's using bluetooth to communicate, which is not the most reliable technology. For example, if you need to find your keys, you would walk around your house with your phone and tap the button to find your keys. You have to keep triggering it in every room you go in since bluetooth only travels around 30ft on a good day. This means it might take you a while and you have to get really close in order for it to work, which to some people might be pointless. Luckily it will let you know if it's out of range, which helps. The same goes for finding your phone. You just double tap the button on the Tile to initiate a ringtone on your phone. The only issue (again) is that you need to get pretty close to your phone so you have to walk around the house while tapping the button to make your phone ring.
Overall it works well and I think it's a good investment.
Update: I noticed that a lot of people were complaining about the app permissions on Android. Keep in mind that Android OS has a tendency to go overboard on showing you what permissions an app needs. Not to mention some of that stuff is things that it was the "potential" to do or access. It doesn't necessarily mean that the app is using those methods.
I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a cat GPS that looked way too big for a cats neck. I adopted a new cat and was afraid he might wander too far. I can track him while I'm at home and make sure he stays in the area. If he goes out of range, I can walk the neighborhood and find him.
I purchased a set of 4 and have one on my keys, spare keys, wallet and a mischievous cat's collar. This product has been extremely reliable for finding the things that I constantly misplace around the house. And now the cat can easily be found hiding in a shrub, thanks to his musical collar accessory. On one occasion he had even left our yard but by walking around the block, the app let me know when he was close by and I was able to ring the tile and find him. This product has kept me from being late on many mornings and from stressing over potentially lost items and a pet. I purchased another set as a gift!

I have to give it to this chip, it works. I gave 4 stars because it’s far from perfect—-but in the end I got Dilbert back. The facts: I had only had my cat 3 weeks and he of course wanted to go outside like the others so I put a light on him and this tile. Last night he didn’t come home and the tile said he was last seen 4 hours before, near my house. First criticism: the map function basically does not work. The only clue I had was that he was last seen on my street and heading east when he drifted out of the 100 foot range. I was originally thinking that the receiver would be powerful enough to pinpoint his current whereabouts and show me on the map. No. I started out walking with my ap open looking for him, and covered about 1 circular mile around my house with no luck. I took a break and went home, checked back 5 min after returning home, and the ap now read he had been spotted 20 minutes before. But no new info: just on my street to the east. I wish it would have sentme a text alert but luckily I kept checking every few minutes and not much time had passed, so out I went again, covering the exact same ground as before. This time, the app picked him up across the street about three houses from mine, hiding in the bushes. I’m pretty sure he had been there all morning because cats prowl at night then sleep in the early morning to mid day hours and he looked like he’d been sleeping. So I’m pretty sure the ap had failed to alert me the first time I walked passed him (Within 15 feet of him). Still, it did at least let me know he had been spotted more recently (did my own app pick him up when I passed the first time but not update me?) and honestly without the chime playing, I never would have found him on my own. He was scared and hiding and I am certain he had no clue how to get home. I hope the company keeps working on their app. For people searching for a lost animal—-cat in particular——I would like to suggest walking very slowly, and keep turning the phone in different directions. I think that made a big difference.
Got these for my girlfriend and she loves it! I got a four pack because the price you can’t go wrong! She lost her cat for one week! When he came back he had a slightly swollen face because another cat bit him. It’s all gone now which is good. Anyways, I felt so bad because she loves this cat so much and he is an outside cat but always come back and knows where home is. But when he had a disappearance she got so worried. So I went searching, saw this on amazon and was happy to buy these so she will never loose him again!!!! 100ft is the limit but that’s pretty far and makes your search so much faster and easier. If out of range you just walk around until it turns green, you hit the green button on your phone/app and it’ll go off ringing and it’s really loud for the size. Not trying to make a review long but I want people to know this is a good buy. Anyone else on here who says it sucks isn’t exactly smart. It isn’t just for pets it’s for anything you usually loose. Also anyone else with a cellphone who walks within range of your lost item, the app lets you know exactly where it was last seen and it gives you the update instantly’ Such a user friendly app! This product is like an Apple product when you open this. Whoever invented this is genius, god bless you and thank you! Anyone with questions I’d be happy to answer them! A couple more things, it’s small, very light, is very loud which is good like I said, and you can actually share your tile with family or friends! So it helps extend your search! Your phone is considered your first tile when you get the app! I’m so happy My girlfriend is never missing that cat again!
Fun! I got these for my husband for Christmas since he'd recently lost his wallet (and found it in his shoe after hours of searching!) But I took one back for my own set of keys, since they typically get passed around the family. Now I don't have to ask everyone where they put my keys, I just touch "keys" on the app! I can also press the button on the tile, if I have my keys, to find where I left my phone. Cool little things!
This is thing hasn’t failed me. I’ve only had to charge it once since I got it 2 months ago and my cat escapes at least twice per week sometimes more than that. When I’m not home and he runs out the door I get a notification and I’m able to call my mother and yell at her to go get him haha. It is so accurate on his location also and it shows me the path he took to get to where he is at that moment. At night is when he escapes so he camouflages pretty well in the dark but when I’m tracking him there is a flashing blue light which helps and I also use my phone flashlight and I’m able to see his eyes If he is hiding in a bush. I honestly don’t care about paying the 12-14 fee I don’t know exactly how much it is. I’m paranoid about someone stealing my cat or him getting by a car. This gives me peace of mind. The device is on the bigger side but it doesn’t bother him.
I use my tile for my cat. I keep it on his collar, so that I know when he’s nearby, or when he was last nearby. I’d previously used a $120+ GPS pet tracker, but I’ve gotta say I prefer the tile! He get into all kinds of crud, but the tiles don’t seem to break even when brings it home wet or muddy.
The only drawback for me is that when I “share” a Tile (allows someone else to access the tile’s location/ info), it loses signal strength. I have absolutely no idea why, but I’ve noticed this with multiple tiles. As a result, I have a “good” tile (only I am connected to it) and then a backup tile for when I’m outta town and my boyfriend is taking care of Samson.
If it wasn’t for the signal issue, it’d be a 5 star review. I use these on my keys too, and have found them in the dumpster using the tile!
