Got tired of using my inkjet printer infrequently and whenever I did have to use it deal with the dried out cartridges and clogs. I got this model in particular because it is exceptionally small for a laser-jet. It's significantly smaller than the inkjet I had been using. Setup was actually really easy, and I was able to get it working on my phone and laptops in a matter of minutes. The print quality fine...I mean it's a black and white so all I need are legible documents and no issues there. The flatbed scanner is also pretty easy to use, so all in all I'm happy with the purchase.
Having spent most of my adult life working at law firms, I’ve got a lot of experience with HP laser printers. I’ve always wanted to duplicate the experience at home but most laser printers are pretty expensive and cost more than I’d want to spend for casual print jobs at home. The HP M29w is the perfect solution. Its smaller than most ink jet printers so it doesn’t require a lot of space, it doesn’t cost much more than a good quality ink jet printer and the cartridge replacements aren’t excessively expensive (at the time of my review, a replacement cartridge for this printer was around $50 for approx 1,000 pages of printing). It prints quickly and quietly without all the gear warmup that you encounter with ink jet printers. Setup was simple. I didn’t even need a computer. I just removed the printer from the box, opened it up and removed the protective strips from cartridge and plugged it in. I already own a HP printer, so I had the app downloaded on my iPad, so all I had to do was open the app, click Add Printer, locate the printer in my wi-fi settings and in <5 min I was ready to print. The paper feeds quickly and it produced a professional looking document in seconds. My only complaint about it is that the paper feeder is a little too flat. I wish it was raised up a bit more than it does. It also has scanning and copying capabilities. Copying is simple with one touch, and you use the app to scan documents and photos directly to your device. Its everything I want in a home printer. If you work from home or have a school aged child who needs to print off reports and homework or are just looking for a dependable printer that produces high quality documents, I definitely recommend this HP laser jet printer for your needs.
Just what I needed. Does fast, clear, black and white printing. No color but photo printing at commercial retail stores like Walmart is a lot cheaper. Setup and use are simple but need to use online manual to configure various settings. One caution, printed page comes out so fast that it falls on to paper tray and then back into the printer. Have hooked printer directly to my desktop rather than using the wireless which requires downloading the app; can’t install and use both as circumstances warrant.
Received this today. It has a very nice, small footprint, which is what I am looking for in an infrequently used home printer. No auto-duplex, but I don't print enough at home for it to matter.
It took about 20 minutes to set up to use on Windows PC, Chromebook & Android Phone. First I tried just using the Chromebook and the HP Smart App, but it wouldn't connect to my WiFi (only the direct connection to the printer would work, which is not what I wanted). I know from previous experience that setting up a printer directly on the Chromebook can be buggy, so when it didn't work the first time from following the directions, I took out the PC, downloaded the HP Smart App, and was able to set up the printer quickly and easily, as expected.
Once the setup is complete, you can just add it to Google Cloud Print so it will be available to all of your devices. In the HP Smart App on the PC, go to Printer Settings > Advanced > Printer Home Page (EWS). Under Setup, Click on Google Cloud Print and follow the directions. Once you connect the printer to Google Cloud Print, it will show up on any of your devices that are set up to use Google Cloud Print. Easy Peasy. Prints perfectly as expected.
The Chromebook and Android Phone have always been a little buggy with printer connections, and without using Google Cloud Print directly, I've always had to try multiple apps to see what works best for my setup.
I'm not saying it's the best printer after only having 1 printer. I bought a Samsung B&W laser printer. The paper feed was horrible - couldn't even use it for half page labels so I returned it. Then I looked at comparable Brother. They were very flimsy and crappy feeling with a tiny place to put labels in. Then I ordered this M29w from Warehouse Deals (which I love!) and it is very very good. I use it wirelessly and it prints fast and smooth. Pulls paper or labels flawlessly. Easily twice the quality of the Samsung or Brother. For the same price range too. Its a no brainer. Just get it.

I like the size. It fits my bill and it works. Easy to set up with a little help from my Grandson..(he is lovely). The item was just as I hoped and expected it to be. It prints black and white only and I knew that when I bought it. I have been through 2 Canon printer in 4 years because the ink dried up and ruined the printer head. It ain't good, cause that is the end of your printer no matter how pretty it looks, like new of course. In the garbage it went. So I decided this printer because it the head will not do the same, I don't print often enough to keep the other style printer. So far I like it, I bought the white and it has a small footprint and that is nominal for me an my tiny place. So far so good, three months in. I do not regret my purchase at all.
I had an old laser jet printer and it finally died after almost 15 yrs of service, so when this one popped up under a hundred dollars I couldn’t let it pass me by, I hope it will be the same quality as my old one RIP, so far it was easy to set up and all without plugging it directly to my computer or router... thanks HP
To me, this is like a professional, full size machine, and better than an ink jet printer for a few reasons. The pages smoothly move from the tray, out through the top without stopping and starting. The moving parts inside the printer do not loudly shoot back and forth; there is no shaking. The text on a printed page is dark and crisp, I have not experienced any smudging from wet ink. For these reasons, I like this little laser printer much more than any inkjet printer I have owned.
I don’t even know what these reviews are talking about regarding the setup. It took me 5 minutes to connect to my WiFi and set this printer up with my MacBook Pro and iPhone. The easiest thing I’ve ever done. I threw out the provided cable and CD. It’s compact, scans, prints quickly and seamlessly. Easily worth the low price.
Easy setup, downloaded directly the drivers , followed the vague quick start sheet then followed the software
Plugged USB into computer , setup my network , unplugged, restarted printer and setup apple and Android phones
Under 10 min total time
I can NOT speak for a setup without computer.
Comes with USB cable and standard computer plug.
Plenty of signs and tags to show you what to do on the printer.
