Earth's Best Organic Stage 2 Baby Food, Prunes and Oatmeal, 4 oz. Jar (Pack of 12)

Earth's Best Organic Stage 2 Baby Food, Prunes and Oatmeal, 4 oz. Jar (Pack of 12)

These are all tasty to mom—love the summer fruits! However, my lil girl is surprisingly a bit averse to tartness/acidity.
So, she liked these less than the Earth’s Best carrots, sweet potatoes, and other sweet veggies.
Maybe test run the fruit flavors w/ baby before subscribing, or you may end up finishing the box yourself.
Glass jar and metal lid will grind down to sand even if not recycled, so I don’t feel bad about these malingering in the Mariana Trench or landfill forever.

Ordered this before checking reviews. It was already on the way after I did. I was concerned because of so many negative reviews but it arrived in excellent condition. There was a little bit of water separation at the top of the food but you'll see that even if buying at a store. Just stur it back in. No big deal. Baby loved all of the flavors just fine.

****Latest Update****

We are now past the baby food stage so I may have missed this if it was formally announced, but I recently heard that they switched packaging in late 2011 to be completely BPA free. I confirmed this with customer service. Leaving the remaining review as it was...

*********************

My wife had made her own baby food for our daughter for the first eight months. Then, when our daughter was going to begin daycare, there was a certain convenience factor of being about to send in jars of baby food for her and so we bought Earth's Best. It was organic, and figured to be the closest bought brand to what she had been making herself. The variety packs are a nice, easy way to stock different kinds for our baby to enjoy... and enjoy she did for several of the flavors, though some she hated as well. All in all, we were pleased, and baby seemed pleased.

Needless to say, I was pretty surprised to read the review about BPA in the lids. I spent some time trying to verify this myself. A lot of different blogs stated it, and while I couldn't find anything definitive, here's what bothered me: Clearly Earth's Best knows people are concerned about BPA in their lids... their own facebook site is littered with people asking this same question. The admin answers these the same way... food safety and baby health is of the highest priority, call us to discuss. That's only slightly paraphrased. Going to their website, they have zero articles on BPA and none in the FAQs section either... nothing. I'm not worried enough about the issue to stop using what we purchased, but I would have felt a whole lot better about the company and their products if they would acknowledge parents' concerns and tell parents... something. Hey, we check our food in laboratory testing regularly and the the amount of BPA found in our food is X, which is so low, there are no health concerns... just say something... anything. Do you really want the onus on the customer to contact you to keep using your product?

As I was taking the time to review their product, I decided I would call them to give them a fair chance to explain. Something, I likely wouldn't have done if I wasn't writing a review. Their office was closed... 9AM - 7PM est. Not the most convenient times for a working parent, but I will attempt to follow up and update this accordingly.

***UPDATED (old)****
Just spoke to someone from customer service. She says that the liner that comes into contact with the food is BPA free, but that there is another section of the lid behind this liner, that does contain BPA, but that section of the lid does not come in contact with the food. I'm sure not everyone will be okay with that answer, but I'm ok with it. I still think it should be an answer that's readily available to consumers without calling them, but I will say there was no hold time at least.

I ordered these & the 12 pack of 2.5oz jars in the fruit variety, they sent both in 2.5oz jars. The 2.5oz jars are only $7something. I wrote the company and will update my review once they respond & I either get my money back or get what I ordered.
****UPDATE****
I got a response from the company within 2 days. They apologized & told me to KEEP the small variety pack FREE of charge & they are sending me my original order asap! I really appreciate the quick response and the wonderful handling of the problem. This is a fantastic company, I highly recommend ordering from them & because of the way they handled my problem I will be ordering more in the very near future!

The apple apricot is the fav in our family and all my kids have loved this as their dessert even into preschool. It's a bit tart but I've bought cases thru Amazon here and never had a single questionable batch. It looks like the majority of the ones with issues are the rice ones and I know even bought in store ones of those are thicker but you should always buy what's healthiest and best for your family. So glad Amazon carries this brand and flavor for my now great nieces and nephews to enjoy on visits here too!

We throw these in the diaper bag for childcare and when we are going somewhere for the day. They are easy to use when out and about and the lid goes back on so they do not leak. Our little one was not a fan of a few of them at first, they are rather sweet, but she eats a bit more of them now. They are not her favorites, however I would purchase again for convenience!

I am not a die-hard for organic food, but because babies are much more sensitive to pesticides than adults are, I'm trying to stick with organic for my baby as much as possible.

My baby loves the chicken blend and the turkey blend, but is less thrilled about the summer vegetable blend.

I find the 4 oz size has been perfect for my baby between ages 6-8 months (she is big and a really good eater). At 8 months now (she is crawling everywhere and pulling up), I feel like she is ready for Earths Best Stage 3 foods even though the jar says 9 mo. and up, so I will be trying that out with her.

Earth's Best Baby Food
My favorite brand of baby food by far. Both my son (who is now over 2 years old) and my daughter (now almost one) have used a wide variety of foods from Earth's Best. I am a huge proponent of feeding children primarily organic and/or locally grown foods to promote proper nutrition and growth. But I do not feel that all organic brands are equal. I've tried many varieties (including store brands and others only available through internet purchase) and found that Earth's Best is by far the best for your money.

Fruit & Whole Grain Combo, Peach - Oatmeal - Banana
This variety was a huge hit with my son and was given to him most every day until about a year and a half. My daughter on the other hand hasn't taken to it. All children are not created equally and each has their likes and dislikes. I'm still hopeful that she'll take to this, but for now it's a no go. That's why I'm giving it four stars as opposed to five. Although, I would say this flavor is definitely worth a try for any child who has moved passed the basic stage one foods.

Apples 4oz Size
This is a great product and flavor. It's basic, almost every baby I know loves apples and the size is so much better because it's just big enough. On the rare occasion that my son or daughter can't/couldn't finish in one sitting I could put it in the fridge until the next time they sat down to eat. The price is great too, especially if you sign up for a subscription. I like it because if I need another set sooner than it would normally ship I can alter that in my subscription listing. It makes this a great value and a great product.

Apples and Apricots
A huge huge hit with both my son and my daughter. My daughter is now eating the baby food in the house and tends to prefer veggies over fruits so far, but this is one she will eat on a pretty regular basis. My son also loved this variety as well. I like that it's a little different than just plain apples and the jar size is big enough to sustain her through an entire meal with a little cereal on the side.
