Brother HL-L2300D Monochrome Laser Printer with Duplex Printing

Brother HL-L2300D Monochrome Laser Printer with Duplex Printing

Amazing for the price.

How to reset toner count (it tells you it's empty well before it is.):
--Open front cover. leave it open.
--Turn printer off.
--Hold go button while turning printer on.
--After 3 seconds of printer being back on, release both buttons.
--Press Go button 9 times.
-Yellow LEDs will lite up.
--Press go button 5 times.
--Close the cover.
Toner is now reset.

DRUM RESET ONLY:
-Make sure that the machine is turned on.
-Open the front cover.
-Open front cover
-Press and hold Go for about four seconds until all of the LEDs light up. Once all four LEDs are lit, release Go.
-Close the front cover.
-Make sure the Drum LED is now off.

1. The toner trick by covering cartridge with tape doesn't work with this cartridge/printer. The printer keeps the page count you will have some toner left in the cartridge every time. Sometimes enough to print 500 or more pages

2. The the popular aftermarket toner ez something didn't work for me. I googled it and reset the cartridge by opening side and turning plastic wheel in 8:00 position. Now I'm crossing my fingers hoping it continues to work

3. A poster on Amazon suggested when your current cartridge runs out ,press the go button seven times it will then let you continue to print I tried this and it works

4. I have this printer hardwired to my Mac Mini and by sharing the printer on my network in settings I am able to print wirelessly from my laptop by installing a program called bonjour or something on the pc laptop. That lets me do this. (Had to google it)

5. Many people say to reset the drum count every time you replace the toner cartridge from what I gather you leave The front cover open and then you press the go button for about four seconds until all the LEDs light up and then you release. Then close the door the drum light should be off

The Brother line of the HL printers offer an inexpensive and efficient solution to everyday printing. I own the HLL2300D and a HL-227ODW and use one at work and one at home. The printers come packaged very well with clear instructions detailing how to get your printer up and running. The print speed is fast enough and the automatic double-sided printing is a huge bonus. The toner cartridge is cheap to replace and installs with a snap. The footprint of the printer is also very small so it takes up less desk space.

I work from home and needed to buy a printer since my primary printer's ink was way too expensive to keep replacing constantly at my own cost. I needed a basic black and white printer, nothing fancy since I already have an additional printer/scanner that does everything else. This was absolutely perfect. I was able to buy this, the USB cable (thanks fellow Amazon reviewers), a case of paper and two ink cartridge refills for about $107.00. I thought I would need my IT department to add the printer for me since I don't have admin permissions but once I plugged in the USB cable, I was ready to print. I cannot believe how fast it prints and it's so quiet. Since I have to pay for this and not get reimbursed, this is a perfect solution for me. I couldn't even buy new ink for my other printer for the cost of this machine. Money well spent.

I bought this to do foiling with, and it works great! Because a lot of people were saying that laser printers can't handle card stock, at first I was worried that my really thick card stock (120 lb. card stock/~236gsm) wouldn't go through. However, it works perfectly! I just use the single-sheet manual bypass and it goes through without a problem.

I had to adjust the settings a little bit to get the toner to lay on densely to get the foil to stick properly to it. I set it to 600 DPI, Print density: 6, and set it to print 'Text' instead of 'Graphics'.

Description

Reliable Affordable Monochrome Laser Printer For Personal or Home Office Use. Automatic Duplex Printing, Compact Size, Print Speed Up To 27ppm. High Speed USB Interface

Bought this to save money on ink and pleasantly surprised at how fast it is from warmup to printing. Also prints fast. I have a Canon MP480 which has good color reproduction but is not great on text... could be because it is a photo printer. The Brother ,as some say, does not do as well with pictures but it is not terrible and is expected from a laser printer meant for sharp text. Yes, unfortunately, my lamp and ceiling light flickers briefly before each print job but I use it mostly during the day when they are not in use. It also is very compact and easy to setup. I thought about the stepup wireless laser but too many reviews about it losing connectivity... could be the user but there are lots of complaints so I avoided it altogether. I could not be happier. I actually enjoy printing if that makes sense. Like others I realized that I don't need color much and was wasting money but I still have my Canon if I need a picture printed. This really makes you feel great about giving out a professional looking hardcopy. Thanks Brother for such an affordable gem and to all the positive reviews. I have attached a comparison picture of prints from both printers and the actual website they were printed from... You be the judge! My Canon missed a number of things but the print out from the Brother printer matches EVERYTHING as exactly as it is on the website and text is super sharp and not too thick or thin... just perfect. I did expect text to be better but this was better than I thought because of the great price. A keeper for me.

totally didn't do my research and thought this was wireless. It is not!
I still really like it though. I can print a ton of stuff and not have to worry about ink. Of course it's just black and white but it does what I want it for.

I love love love the double sided printing! So useful.

If you need a printer to just print random things that you may need, this is it!

Arrived fast and no shipping damage packed well. Arrives in the manufacturers box. I am computer literate so setup was a breeze. This DOES NOT come with a USB cable so keep that in mind. It uses a standard printer USB cable. Includes a CD with drivers for windows and Mac OS. I am using this with Linux Mint and printer driver installation is straight forward and linux driver is available on Brother website as a .deb package. Comes with a starter toner that just snaps in the front follow the instructions on the included setup fold out. Print quality is sharp and a huge improvement over my inkjet printer. Large adjustable slide out paper tray holds plenty of paper. Prints really fast if your use to waiting on inkjet pages. I use this for my ebay business so i print high volume mailers, instruction sheets and nice sharp postage labels for shipping. I use the two panel label sheets for paypal postage and they work just fine through all the rollers inside. Overall I highly recommend this if your looking for your first cheap laser printer. Will be very economical for small business with high volume print needs.

I bought this to replace a very old Brother HL-series printer and it's been absolutely flawless. This unit was less expensive than replacing the consumables in the old one (it was good otherwise, if a little dirty), so it was an easy choice.

It's just for printing occasional home documents (under 200 pages a month) so I don't expect workgroup performance out of it. The docs are sharp, clean, and straight. I'm printing from Linux, Mac and Windows machines using my router as a print server, since it lacks network connectivity of its own (which is fine for the price). I haven't had any issues with print connectivity, and it's only 'jammed' once (it only 'thought' it was jammed, so I just had to open all the doors and close them again).

The only thing not fine for the price is the incredibly low RAM -- you'll never hit the rated page speed when printing graphics-heavy documents. I didn't take a star off, since I realize this is the base unit, but it's also 2017. RAM is so cheap that another 8 or 24Mb (yes it's megabytes) would have been a trivial change (if any) to the wholesale cost of the unit and done wonders for speed on even moderately complex documents.

The real test will be printing Christmas card envelopes with the manual feed this coming holiday season. Take note from other reviews, make sure you activate the 'Toner Continue' function, since the printer calculates available toner based on pages printed and will stop at a predefined limit if the option is not set ahead of time.

Do you find yourself having to allocate an extra thirty minutes to an hour to a project when you realize that you have to print it? Do you find yourself having to buy ink that's more expensive than your printer EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU NEED TO PRINT SOMETHING? Does the idea of printing stress you out? Have you found yourself searching solutions to an error code that your printer is displaying, only to find YouTube videos of people throwing said printer out of a three story window because there isn't a fix (I actually had this happen when my old Epson errored out!)?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, buy this printer. Seriously. My relationship with printers has changed because of this baby. I didn't know that a home printer could be good before I bought my Brother. I'm someone that only prints once in a blue moon. When I do print, it's usually between 5 and 10 pages. With my old printers (I went through five in college undergrad trying to find something that didn't make me want to die), I was having to buy new ink every time a professor insisted on having a paper printed instead of emailed because the ink would dry out between uses. I was having to prepare back-up plans for what I was going to do when my printer inevitably didn't print. I was budgeting in the twenty cents per page that my college library charged to print in B&W and the $1 per page for color. Then the thirty minutes to find a parking spot, twenty minutes to wait in line for a computer, time for THAT printer not to work, etc etc. It was hell. I wish I had this during undergrad.

Here's the most glowing thing I can say about this printer. No matter the circumstance, I press print and what I need printed prints. It just works. It doesn't sass me. It doesn't error out. It doesn't say that the toner has run out. I've had this printer for almost a year now and NOTHING has gone wrong, not even installation. It just sits next to my home computer, loyal as can be, ever ready to do what it needs to do. It won't let you down.
