Seagate Game Drive for PS4 Systems 2TB External Hard Drive Portable HDD – USB 3.0, Officially Licensed Product (STGD2000100)

Seagate Game Drive for PS4 Systems 2TB External Hard Drive Portable HDD – USB 3.0, Officially Licensed Product (STGD2000100)

Finally the gadget we've all been waiting for! This is an external drive specifically designed for PS4. This works with PS4, PS4 slim, and PS4 Pro. You get a total of 2TB (1.84 TB in reality) that will help you store your games and liberate space in your console.
When I bought my PS4 slim, the first thing I did was to actually change the hard drive, from 512MB to 1TB. I used a Seagate also, and I was happy with it, BUT this is way better. Why?
First, because this is a plug a USB play device (cable IS included). No need to open your console and install nothing, no need to install drivers, software, etc. This is the easiest possible way to expand your storage.
Second, because this is cheaper than the 1TB drive I installed less than 12 months ago. For $80 you get here 2TB. I got 1TB for about $110.
Third, by downloading and storing your games on this external storage drive, you can take them with you wherever you go. So if you want to go to a friends' house and bring your games, just take this drive. AND this drive is SUPER SMALL, it really fits in your pocket. And the design is super because it comes with a blue strip (see Amazon pic) that matches the Playstation environment.
A note on installation: when you open this box, it comes with a couple of useless paperwork (warranty, basically). You can to to their website to get more info, but you really don't have to. Just plug it and follow the instructions on the screen. You mainly need to reformat the drive (see my pics). It was VERY easy to follow, and it took total about 2-3 minutes. I am including some pictures I took of my screen for you to see. Also, a final note: I noticed that games take a little bit longer to download to this drive than to the internal drive of the console. I have not done a 'scientific' test, and thus it may be my imagination, but I'd say games take about 20-30% longer to download. I don't care much because I usually have my console downloading stuff overnight while I am sleeping.
Bottomline: BUY THIS TODAY!

I just go the Seagate External drive fior the PS4 yesterday, and As of this morning, I have put on 12 games, ranging from almost 10gb to almost 65gb, and it took 45 minutes to transfer those games from the PS4 internal drive to the external drive. The set up/format took seconds to do, which was great, since some people had mentioned 2-5 minutes to do. I do have internet from ATT and share it with three other people, so that could be a reason why it’s taken awhile to load from drive to drive, but I am not complaining, I FINALLY have room!! There is no instructions on the paperwork, so I was glad that people had asked questions and got things cleared up. Make sure your system is completely turned off, plug in the drive, turn on your system, and follow the prompts. The only issue/problem that some people may have, is when you transfer over your games, from the internal drive, your not able to turn off the system. Not an issue for me, since I had some time to kill this morning, so it was a perfect time early this morning for me to do the transfer. I have included three photos to give everyone a better idea as to how small it is, which makes it perfect for a small compartment in a handbag or backpack. And the blue light in the corner of the drive let’s you know it’s on. So I went from having 400gb of games on my internal drive, to now I only have 10.20gb on my internal. No need to delet the games off it, and everything transferred over beautifully. And if you leave it plugged in, any game you download from the PS4 store, or from a disk, it will go straight onto the external hard drive, and you can put it into sleep mode while doing it.

This little hard drive has been a REAL life saver. By only having a 500GB hard drive PS4 I wasn't able to hold a lot of games AT ALL so I was CONSTANTLY having to delete games to make room for others and then deleting THOSE games to make room for MORE games and that was just so.....dang....annoying......LUCKILY I saw this little beauty on Amazon and figured I'd give it a try even though some reviews, who are obviously posted by ignorant people, said it didn't work. I'm SUPER, BEYOND glad I bought this. I have FIFTY FOUR games on it right now and STILL haven't even filled it all the way up PLUS you still have the extra GB's from your PS4's built in hard drive so you have PLENTY of storage! Plus these external drives aren't too pricey so you can get TWO and have TONS of storage space! I'll definitely be buying another one when I get the extra cash!

Edit: So it's been 7 months since my last review and just to let everyone know I STILL haven't filled this thing up yet. I have 114 games installed on it, some by disc, some by digital download, and it's still got TONS of space. For those of you still speculating on buying it....STOP SPECULATING AND BUY IT! 😂

Works as advertised. Less than 2 minutes to plug in, and set as primary storage. Effectively quadrupled my storage on my 500 GB PS4. No real difference in load time that I can tell. Very happy with this purchase. The only minor issue is that it just has to hang out next to the PS4 attached by its very short cord. A longer cord might help to hide it, but this is a very small quibble. This does what I wanted it to with no hassle. No more agonized decisions over what to delete off the drive when I get a new game.

I was skeptical at first because I had recently bought an external harddrive from Wal-Mart online through a third party vendor and when I received it it didn't work, long story short- it was a hassle getting my money back. I really wanted an external harddrive because I didn't want to tear my ps4 apart and go through having to upload all my data just to have to reinstall it later.

My boyfriend recommended Amazon and this harddrive because he bought one exactly like it and fell in love with it, so I took a leap of faith and ordered this one (Now that I have it I wish I would have gone with the 4TB but its done and over). I have to say this product is great, I've only had it for a few weeks but it works perfectly! Installation was very easy. Transferring my data was simple ( this may take a few minutes to 1 to 2 hours, depending on how much is on your internal harddrive). Overall its a solid piece of equipment. Thank you :D

This Product Came Lighting Fast Next Day Status! And it works like a charm. No longer is there need to erase previous games in order to make room for the new stuff. I should have gotten this way back before erasing hours of game play. Definitely a Must have for those who have a large game library!

Works great, looks great, PS4 compatible. Currently no way to transfer from 1tb hdd to 2tb hdd but thats Sony's fault. Would recomend a PS4 SUNKY Usb 4 port hub. Since this drive will take up one port. added link for your convienence.

Having had plenty of bad experiences replacing hard drives on other devices, when my PS4 ran out of space, this external hard drive fixed the problem in literally about three minutes. All installation requires is plugging in the device into the USB port and it self-installs, then sets the system to automatically save new programs onto the external drive instead of the PS4 drive, excepting game save data which stays on the PS4. It also tells you how to turn this setting off if you wish. The only downside is I now have to be sure to turn my PS4 off completely in bad weather, because a power outage requires the system to repair the connection each time, but otherwise, it works flawlessly for me.

I was reluctant to purchase this after reading all the horror stories from other reviewers. But I needed a solution to having to delete games in order to make room for playing a new one. But so far, so good. As easy as plug and play for my original PS4. I use the external drive for storing games and game saves ONLY, while keeping and saving any system or app updates to the console’s hard drive. However, given the additional cost and time involved with purchasing the 4T external drive and uploading my entire game disc library, I won’t be very happy if it crashes and burns in a few months like it has for other buyers. I certainly appreciate their honest reviews!!

It took several days to install everything, and with our slow rural internet connection, it would be an absolute nightmare to download and save and/or reinstall any digital content saved to the cloud… Which is the whole reason why I spent the extra money on an external drive in the first place! I don’t use my game consoles every day, so hopefully this will preserve and extend the reported short life span of this external drive. If not, I’ll certainly be back to change my positive product review.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

This hard drive is exactly as described. I own the first PS4 gen and I noticed there's some performance capability issue. You can use it to backup or install application on it BUT if your playing a game that's copying on the Seagate HD, your gonna notice the ps4 will start acting up such as: major lag, controller disconnecting and moving on its own, some freeze, etc. It shouldn't be a problem with the PS4 pro since it has a better CPU upgrade than the previous.

Testing:
Copying few games that I wanted to play again. Testing whiteday, which I installed on the Seagate HD, noticed tons of game freezes and controller moved on its own. Moved the game application to my main storage and didn't run into any issues. Same with Evil Within and Overwatch.
