Medalight 35mm Desk Top Portable LED Negative and Slide Viewer + AA Batteries + Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

Medalight 35mm Desk Top Portable LED Negative and Slide Viewer + AA Batteries + Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

I just received two of these slide viewers and I am delighted. It can be used on the table top, leaving hands free or it can be hand-held. It is just the right size. It works slightly differently than the smaller hand-held ones which has advantages. Usually, you hold the slide down with your finger for viewing. This turns on the light and you can view the image. This viewer has a button to turn on the light and the slide is dropped into the slot for viewing. This leaves your hands free and also makes it easier for several people to use the viewer at once. When you have finished viewing another button ejects the slide onto the tray below. Very clever and practical. It uses 4 double-A batteries which come with the view, as well as a cleaning cloth. I just thought this was very kind.
My husband was an artist and he took thousands of photographs of his work over the 60 years he was working. Hundreds of these images are in slide format. He recently passed away and I am planning a celebration of his work, leaving me to sort through this mountain of slides. I was thinking of having a carousel of slides constantly showing the work but 1) I couldn't get the carousel to work and 2) the lights would need to be off in that room, making it less able to do anything else in that room so I decided to go with hand-held. I bought two other hand-held viewers and when I realized I needed more, I purchased two of these. This product, while slightly different in nature, is a slightly better quality. I am very glad I bought them.

This viewer has been well-reviewed by numerous other purchasers. It was delivered quickly, the slides view well using this device (the light, magnification, and battery life are very good), and we find the 1950s/60's-era slides tend to get stuck rather frequently. I purchased this viewer as phase 1 of a three phase "put our parents' slides on digital media" exercise. My 91 yo parents, still blessed with mobility, curiosity, and mental clarity are using the device to review slides before we move to the 2nd phase - digitizing. My Dad indicates he has speeded his review process by holding the slide over the lit viewer to get the gist of the subject. IF it needs additional review before deciding to digitize or not, he will actually put it in the viewer...otherwise, the light is sufficient to make quick work of the sorting. After digitizing, I'll need them to key in descriptions of the picture subjects, where the pix were taken, when, and what the occasion was. Without a working projector, this device is an essential, cost-effective tool in completing this project.

I bought this as a slide viewer. I have not used this unit to view negative film so I can't comment on that.

As a slide viewer, it has a solid build, excellent quality, much better than units I have had from other companies. The image viewed is sharp, bright, & vivid. My only complaint is the method of slide ejection from the viewer. Sometimes, the side gets stuck. I have to tilt the unit to get the slide out. I found the really critical thing is to push the eject bottom in completely until the slide is actually in the tray.

I am a Vietnam war vet and I have hundreds of slide that took while in-country. I have not looked at these slides in 35 years! Too many memories still.....But I thought that before I head into the final roll call, I’d like to see what it was all about. Got the slide viewer and it was as advertised only better. Great build quality! Work just great right out of the box and had more versatility than I thought. At any rate, I started to look at the slides and the more I viewed the more tears would come. But I got through a bunch of them before I decided to call it a night. Sorry for all the emotion. The viewer performed flawlessly and the led lighting was great in deleting moot spots. Great product if you are in the market for a top knotch slide viewer. Great product, excellent service from vendor. Would highly recommend.

Like some of the other reviews mentioned, old cardboard framed slides do get occasionally hung up. By tilting the viewer toward me I was able to drop old slides through it without any of them hanging up, so technique plays a small part in how well it works. The light source is perfect for viewing the slides and not overly bright which would make viewing a lot of slides uncomfortable over time. Bottom line: It helped me sort through hundreds of slides to determine which ones will be saved to a disk at a reasonable cost with minimal effort.

Will accept a 6V 500 mA AC adapter (not included). Please note: the 2x2 slides need to be inserted on the back of the viewer, see third product image

This slide viewer replaced one that I had from the 1980's that stopped working. That '80's style viewer is still available on Amazon, but this Medalight viewer is so much better than the old one. The Medalight is very bright from the LED, no hot spots visible, and clarity and magnifaction of the slide is excellent. Battery replacement is easy, and the controls are easy to use. I think the LED is brighter than the conventional bulb used in the old viewer. And I like the ability to view 35mm negative strips. Overall, it is a very nice package.

I had just inherited boxes of slides from a family member who passed away but unfortunately; I had no way to view them.
I found the Desktop Viewer on Amazon for a reasonable price compared to the cost of buying a vintage slide projector.

The viewer was larger than I expected which was nice. It was packaged well and came with the 4 AA batteries needed. You do have the option of using an adapter cord but it is not included. Also, there is no order form in the box to purchase one from the manufacturer either but they do give the specifications; AC/DC 6v 500mA.

The slides show up nicely on the viewing screen and the LED lights are bright. You place the slide in at the top and after viewing you push the eject button on the side and the slide falls into a tray on the base. You can view around six slides before you need to remove them or they block the slide from coming out. I did experience times when the slide would get stuck inside but it was easily freed by shaking the viewer slightly until it lined up. It can be alarming when it happens initially but it isn't a big deal. Not sure if it was the viewer or if I put the slide in slightly off.

The instructions also state the viewer can be used to look at negatives which was good to know.

I did view hundreds of slides and the batteries were still going strong. I can not say how long the batteries last before they need replacing but it doesn't burn through them.

The viewer worked well for what I needed and it won't take a lot of storage space. It is a good choice if you need a viewer.

I'd have to say that the transaction with the vendor was fantastic he actually reaches out and is very communicative with me in case I have any problems which I have not had any. My only problem was that I thought it was more than just a viewer, I actually thought it converted it to a positive and viewed in larged the picture, maybe I didn't truly understand the description I think I had gotten confused with previous items. It's serving its purpose. I had over 1400 35 mm negatives converted to digital from a company that I mailed them away to and when they sent them back they were so out of order that I needed something to view them in order to put them back in order unfortunately it shows them only in negative form but at least it enlarges it so I can tell what it is.
it came right out of the package with batteries I was able to turn it on and use it right away.
when I'm trying to view negatives that don't go all the way through that are two frames or less I use a strip of Post-It note in order to feed it in and be able to get it back out.
I have no slides so I've never used it for that purpose I've only used it for negatives.
I highly recommend if you are trying to view your negatives to use this viewer

Received this product about 1 week ago. My initial observations were that it appeared to be a solid / rugged design. I have tested it with both slides (plastic framed and cardboard framed) and had no issues. I enjoyed the 3x magnification . I found the enter and exit of slides to be relatively easy. I used the light in the locked on position. I will say the force requirement for the exit of the slide is a little too stiff. You cannot do a 1 handed push on the side button without the whole viewer moving sideways. You need your other hand holding the unit in place. The company; should consider the possibility of putting the exit button on top which would be ergonomically easier to use and prevent sliding.
The only other issue I had was verifying exactly what light source was used in the unit. I wanted this product because it was described as an LED light source but the included oper. instruction sheet shows a tungsten light bulb as the light source. After some researching and use of unit, I believe it actually is an LED source.
Over all I think this unit will serve my purposes well and last a long time.

I didn't want to spend a lot on a new viewer, but wanted something that would simplify the viewing process. The price on this unit was quite reasonable and arrived on time in perfect condition. I have hundreds of slides as well as hundreds of film strips that I wanted to scan, but needed something to view these so I could pick & choose what to scan. The slides are dropped into a slot at the back of the viewer & then a button located on the side is pushed to release the slide into a tray. I discovered quickly that I had to press down firmly on the release button AND keep it pressed down until the slide was released. Most of the slides went through without a problem, but occasionally a slide would get stuck. I solved that problem by turning the viewer upside down (sometimes while holding the release button) & then slightly shaking the viewer up & down -- the stuck slide would release and fall out. The LED lights were bright and made it easy to view the slides. The film strips are inserted in a slot on the side of the viewer. The bright lights and the magnification enabled me to see what was on the film strip. A few of my film strips were too short to "feed" into the viewer, so I had to hold those carefully by an edge while inserting it into the slot. In order to view the second image on the short film strip, I inserted the strip into the slot on the opposite side of the viewer. Problem solved. A nice touch was the inclusion of the four batteries needed for the viewer.
