These are wonderful! We love them (even the broth - which some reviewers have said is not very good. I think it is delicious.) Never boil them though. That is the worst possible way to serve them as the water dilutes their flavor, in my opinion. Roast them or pan fry with very little oil as you would a polish sausage or bratwurst. They are great as hotdogs on a bun with all the trimmings or you can put them in casseroles, sauerkraut or any other dish where a bratwurst or regular hotdog might be used.
As a vegetarian, I can't imagine why anyone would prefer to eat real hotdogs (especially when you know what goes into them -- YUK!) These are nutritious and tasty substitute you don't have to feel guilty about!
My only problem is in finding them. Amazon used to have this on their subscription list, but they no longer seem to be carrying them there and the other suppliers charge WAY TOO MUCH for them. How about it Amazon? Can we get these back on subscription?
My husband and I have been vegetarians for 45 or so years. I used to make my hot dogs using firm tofu and lots of spices. These Big Franks are GREAT!! I really didn't know there was a difference between the green can and the red can. I found out!! Neither of us liked the green can ones at all. They are low fat. There is a huge difference in taste between the two. We finished the green can ones and bought a case of the red cans. I would recommend these to anyone, vegetarian or not.
These are great veggie franks. Sorry that I contaminated by body with Morning Star and other chemical factory veggie dogs. These are best prepared, I have found, by drying them off with a paper towel and putting them in a preheated skillet in hot olive oil, and cooking on all sides. I mostly use them for making chili cheese dogs.
Yummy meat replacement hot dogs, but PRICEY!!! Yikes... I used to buy these for like $4 or $5 a can in the store, but I can't find them around here now so I went to Amazon. To bad they cost so much. Guess they will be something we eat every once in a great while.
I think I have been eating the Loma Linda Big Franks for some 30 years. While I can't think of another canned product that I can sing the praises of, I have to admit to an addiction to these franks. I first came across them in a health food store in Honolulu. Actually, I think that is the only place that I have ever found them. When I moved away from Hawaii, I would often check the local stores of my new home to find cans of the Loma Linda Franks. Years went by with no luck. Finally, I decided to check with amazon.com (they seemed to have everything else). Eureka! Now I order Loma Linda Big Franks by the case from Amazon. I thought they were my little vegetarian delight until my wife, who is not a vegetarian, started filching them. Then, she gave away a can to a friend who was also not a vegetarian! Everyone's tastes are different and I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that I am hooked on these dogs...

These are my total favorite vegetarian style, meatless analog, hot dog! I love these things! I usually just eat them cold right out of the can & I dip them in a bit of mustard. Sometimes I heat them up in a fry pan & eat them in a bun like a "real" hot dog, but most of the time I really just end up eating them cold & dipped in the mustard. Easy snack or meal & pretty darn yummy! Just do not expect them to taste like a "real" hot dog!
My family eats about 4 cases a year so I guess you could say we really like them. I usually get cases locally when they go on sale but this the the best price I could find when we needed another case.
I have loved these for decades, and for years after Loma Linda sold out to Kellogg's, the quality went downhill. I have had some recent bad experiences with not enough brine to cover the franks, an obvious manufacturing error. But, I have to say, the last two cases I have received, have been the best the product has EVER been. In the case of the insufficient brine, Kellogg's did a great job replacing the product, and I can't praise them enough for their customer service in that regard. They did the right thing, quickly, and with a minimum of fuss.
These are the best vegan dogs I have ever had. My husband likes them very much too. It is so easy to fix and then you have your hot dog with whatever you like on top. I recently tried cole slaw and it was divine. I feel good having these in my stock to have in case there are any emergencies. The last vegan hot dogs I bought tasted so terrible they went right to the dogs. This product is delicious and it is great to enjoy the sensation of eating a hot dog again without all the gross ingredients in the meat ones. These will go on our rotating vegan menu and will be even better this summer. Thanks for a great product.
I go through stages when I want these Big Franks. One person asked where the expiration date is....is on the bottom of the can. I have eaten these for years off and on. I appreciate the consistency of this product.
