Don Pepino Spaghetti Sauce, 28 Ounce (Pack of 12)

Don Pepino Spaghetti Sauce, 28 Ounce (Pack of 12)

This is my most used sauce. I also use Pastorelli's sauce and like it, too. It depends on what toppings I'm using. If the toppings are the star, and I'm using a lot of them, then I go with Don Pepino's sauce because it's not as spicy. If there's only one topping, like pepperoni, then I use Pastorelli sauce because I need more spice to make the pizza more flavorful. The reason I use Don Pepino's more is because most of the pizzas I make have a TON of toppings, sometimes multiple layers of them, and I don't want the sauce stealing the show.

Don Pepino's has a great tomato taste. I've made my own pizza sauce from vine-ripened tomatoes that I grew in my garden, and Don Pepino's comes close to being the same taste. Yes, there are a few seeds, but have you ever made a sauce from scratch and not gotten a few seeds in it? I think I could lie about this sauce being homemade and people would believe me! It's that good.

This sauce is great tasting. No too liquidy and not too thick. I don't have any marketing secrets of Burger King, but if you've ever order the mozzarella sticks and got the marinara sauce packages to dip them in, I'd swear that this is the same stuff. I liked BK's marinara sauce so much and hunted for years buying this and buying that and never finding it...until...I think...now! But like I said, I don't have any of BK's secrets. And I had stopped looking for and buying sauces that never came close. This is great for pizza, and my favorite fried mozzarella sticks too! I'm finding all kinds of stuff for dipping these days thanks to this sauce. It's a great (and inexpensive) starter for making your own salsa's too without all the preservatives and additives.

I have been making pizzas at home for 37 years. I used to have to order my sauce via fax or phone years ago. Now you can get whatever you like quickly on smile.amazon (supporting your favorite charity at the same time).

I like using this sauce as a change from using another very good pizza sauce I have used for the last 37 years. I just tried this one this year. This has a nice flavor and there is enough in this can for 3 pizzas. I mix it sometimes with the other that has a more pasty consistency like tomato paste, with Don Pepino, which has a looser consistency similar to tomato sauce.

I've been eating this sauce, since the 70's. It's a sauce that is used in many Pizza Shops around Maryland and its made just outside of Atlantic City NJ. Before Amazon I used to order and have shipped to FL Fed Ex and the cost was much higher. I also use in making my spaghetti sauce. You'll love it!

10 STARS!!!! Raised my 4 kids on it!! Lived in England for a couple of years + had it shipped to APO. Moved from East coast to Indiana + still having it shipped to me THANKS to Amazon!!!! LOVE it - great NATURAL taste - I could eat it out of the can! Great for all recipes + more (warm it for chip dipping); the Spaghetti sauce is great too!!!!!! Have been buying it for 35 years!!!! -- can't beat that!!!

Description

The don pepino brand was created by the sclafani family in 1950. The sclafani family began in the food industry in the late 1800's when Marie sclafani and her husband came to US from Italy with their four sons. The family started with a small grocery store in New York. Marie's sons began importing Italian products under the sclafani name in 1900. The business and product line grew and the next generation took over sclafani brothers in the 1930's, renaming it the joseph l. Sclafani company. This old world style recipe features the finest quality tomatoes picked fresh daily throughout the season. All natural ingredients including corn oil, salt, spices and garlic are expertly blended in a unique four step cooking process.

This is lighter and 'fruiter' than what you'll get from retail pizza places like Domino's or Papa Johns. It is still very good and even though I was trying to find something similar to Domino's sauce, I've stuck with this one after trying it. I'd recommend at least trying it if you're looking around because even if it isn't to your taste, it may still pair better with some pizza combinations.

I could only find this product in one grocery store by me & it was almost always sold out. I stumbled across this looking through “subscribe & save” products. This is the best quality, closest to homemade sauce I’ve ever used. I’m sure if more people had ever heard about it, it would be stocked in every grocery store. The quality may be the best because they don’t rush the process to keep up with a crazy demand, so let’s keep this a secret.

Great product. We’ve bought locally for years. This was a Christmas gift for a newly-single man with minimum cooking skills. This is a fresh-tasting marinara sauce that only needs heating. I, of course, sauté some garlic and dried basil first and add a splash of wine, but he loves it just as it is. Now that he’s found microwave pasta!? and meatballs, he eats this regularly and loves it. Note, please, that we’re from NEw Jersey and do not like “thickened” sauces like Ragu.

The sauce is awesome tasting, great consistancy, not too seeet, and is perfectly chunky! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instread of 5 is because 3 of my cans were dented and had to be thrown away. They ship it in the regular cardboard box without any wrapping.....unfortunate!!

I had an Aunt from Italy who cooked up gigantic meals of pasta and sauce etc. every weekend. She had 4 sons and my sister and I and all the adults to feed. I have tried the rest of my adult life to find sauce as good as hers and NEVER could! I tried this the night it arrived and could instantly taste flavors reminiscent to my Aunt's sauce! Now I no longer have to keep hunting....
