Gerber Lil Crunchies, Mild Cheddar & Veggie Dip, 8 Count

Gerber Lil Crunchies, Mild Cheddar & Veggie Dip, 8 Count

Our 10-month-old loves these! After sampling one myself, I fell in love as well, often time stealing from kiddo's can. It's one of the few savory puffs that I found. The flavor is stronger than other stars or sweet puffs, and our LO seems to like that better.

It melts in LO's mouth nicely. Recently he would shove the whole puff in his mouth, and we would all be scared that he would choke or gag, but after a bit moving around in his mouth, the puff melts to small bit that he could swallow fine.

The can says consume after 5 days of opening for optimal freshness. I would stick to that and avoid giving it to babies or toddlers after a week of opening. It doesn't melt as quickly when it's no longer fresh, which could be choking hazard.

My son loves him. He just turned 13 months old. It's high in carbohydrates and low in salt, so it's a perfect snack for growing toddlers. I am buying though Amazon because it's cheaper than the grocery store and I don't mind buying six at a time because he goes through them so quickly. It comes out to a little less than $2 a can. I would even subscribe if it were an option. It's easy for him to chew and it dissolves in his mouth. He would eat an entire can in one sitting if I let him. I love finding food he loves to eat and I would love it even more if it were organic.

the boy absolutely loves these snacks. we bought them from the big supermarket chain that will remain unnamed, and had to start keeping them on hand for daily snacks. found them here on amazon, and the multi-pack breaks down to a savings of $.25-.40 per over the store prices. add them to subscribe-and-save, and the savings are even better.

of course, i've had to try a few of them to make sure they don't taste like cardboard. they don't. in short, they remind me of a slightly less-seasoned cheetos puffs. they do melt down pretty quickly, which is nice because these are a good early hand-fed food for the kiddo. our bundle of poop was snacking on these, broken in half, starting at about 5-6 months (he has been eating table food since that time) and at 8-9 months, he started eating them unbroken -- picking them up, and taking individual bites off of them without any trouble.

kiddo's first hand-fed snack was the gerber graduates puffs. he "graduated" to these after a month, and now he turns his nose up at the puffs when we also have the lil' crunchies on hand. these are a great snack for him, and have helped him work on his basic motor skills at the same time. give them a try!

My daughter loves these! She's been eating these for several months now and never gets tired of them. They come in a convenient container and a variety of flavors that my daughter enjoys. They tend to get stale quickly, but my daughter usually finishes up the container so fast that it's not really a problem for us. I find that the size of the snacks are easy for her to grasp and feed herself. She's not had any issues eating them, as they seem to dissolve relatively quickly once she gets started chewing them.

My kids are much older than toddlers, and have loved these crunchies since they were toddlers! I get them for the simple ingredients, and the fact that they are gluten free, which we need. The container makes it so easy to pour some out and close up, no chip clip needed! They are just the correct crunchiness, just the right size to pop into your mouth without have to bite in half and get cheese crumbs all over! We love them!

I have to be honest I got these for myself haha. Normal snacks are SO unhealthy it's hard to find great flavored stuff especially puffed snacks without terrible chemicals and loads of fat and artificial stuff. These are my favorite flavor (the cheddar ones) and they're so low calorie and low fat... I could eat so much more of it at once too without feeling guilty. They taste like great puffed snacks without the added garbage. Also not bad price!! Pretty good bargain.

These are great snacks for our kids. We like how they are baked instead of fried and the flavors are great. They were fondly named "Cheesy Poofs" in our household. They were always very easy to eat when they were little. You can easily cut them up for young toddlers and they become finger foods as they get older. Our kids' favorite flavors are Mild Cheddar and Veggie Dip. Tomato is good too. The prices on Amazon were always a little better than our local stores so we purchased them through the Subscribe & Save program. The lids are not very air tight once the seal is removed so they get stale pretty quickly if you don't keep them in a gallon zipper bag like we did, but honestly, they rarely last that long. Our family can go through an entire can in one sitting, making them a fairly expensive snack. Overall, these are a much better choice than other junk snacks which justifies the higher price.

I am an adult and I eat these because they are milder on my weak digestive system, and there is less fat and salt and calories and they are natural. They taste very good! Try these as an alternative to regular cheetos if you have a sensitive tummy.

At first I was against buying these...they seemed like the toddler equivalent of Cheetos/junk food and that is not a habit I want to start him on, especially at so young. However, after seeing how much he loved them when he received some on a playdate and reading up on the ingredients, we decided to give them to him in moderation. My little one LOVES them - he likes all of the flavors but this is his favorite. It is a great way for him to master his motor skills and learn how to feed himself. It's been a wonderful segue into foods with textures as he loves anything crunchy right now. I have yet to see a kid who doesn't enjoy these.

My son loves these! I love that they are healthier (they have vitamins/minerals) than other snacks and low calorie/low sodium/fat free! (I even snack on them as they taste great and have a fraction of the calories of potato chips!) my son has eaten these since he was starting to eat solid foods and now he's 15 months. He gets so excited when we break out the 'crunchies' for a snack! He went through a phase where he didn't like just about every food we tried, but he still ate these and pediasure's juice boxes and I wasn't overly concerned as these are still pretty healthy (way better than eating sugary snacks). I can't say enough positive things about these snacks, especially the cheddar and the veggie dip flavors.

Toshiba 32LF221U19 32-inch 720p HD Smart LED TV - Fire TV Edition

Toshiba 32LF221U19 32-inch 720p HD Smart LED TV - Fire TV Edition

Firstly, YOU *CAN* CHANGE THE SETTINGS SO THE TV DOES NOT ALWAYS START AT THE HOME SCREEN when it turns on. I almost did not buy this TV because of all the negative reviewers who said it sucks so bad because there's nothing you can do about it......... that is simply not true. The TV does factory default to start/turn on at the Amazon Fire home screen, but THERE *IS* A DISPLAY SETTING for you to set the TV to turn on/start at the last input/channel you were on when you turned the TV off last. (See picture).

Now that being said, this really is a great TV; I am entirely happy with my purchase (and I have never really been that excited about buying a new TV). I remodeled my bedroom and I was looking to replace my 20-year-old tube TV for relatively cheap. This TV fit my budget, it sits great on my dresser, and because of the angle of my roof/ceiling I really could not fit a bigger TV even if I wanted.

At the same time I also "cut the cord" and got rid of cable in my house. I wanted a smart tv so I could use my streaming apps (DirectTV Now, Netflix) and I already had a Fire stick in my living room, so having the "Fire" platform built into the TV is a great option. There are certain things I don't like about Amazon Fire but having used other platforms (Roku, GooBang Doo/ MXII & XB-III/Android Box), Fire is the best option for my bedroom. And I didn't want to have additional hardware/boxes & separate remote controls to deal with in my room, so I love that it is all integrated into the TV and I only have 1 remote to deal with.

I have a fairly large master bedroom, and I have my desk at the other side of the room with a PC/router and a separate amp/speakers for the PC. Before setting up the TV I ran some wiring (3 wires) along the baseboards from my desk to the TV -- a Cat5 (wired network for TV), HDMI (video from computer to TV), and a RG6 coax (digital sound FROM the tv back to my amp). The TV itself doesn't have a digital coax output (it does have SPDIF out); a 50-foot fiber optic cable would have been way too expensive, so I bought a $20 SPDIF to coax converter for the back of the TV. I like that the TV has a wired ethernet connection, because I'm not a fan of streaming over wireless, especially when there are like 20 other wireless devices already on the network.

With my cabling in place, I was ready to rock-n-roll. Opened the box, plugged the tv & wires in, turned it on. We had lift off. There was a first-time setup video that played; I skipped past it but for the novice user it might be informative. On screen programming was fairly simple and straight-forward. The biggest decision was whether to set the TV to "Full" or "Basic" mode (which was probably explained in the video but I skipped past it). BASIC mode is just native OTA channels, inputs, and 6 built-in apps (NetFlix, PSVue, HBO, etc). FULL mode gives you access to the entire Fire application and app store, but you will need to already have or create a new Fire account. Obviously I chose Full mode.

From there, I was determined to show all the reviewers wrong by finding the setting that controls start up behavior. I knew it had to be there. It is. Settings > Display & Sounds > Power On > Last Input. GOOD, because I am one of those people that likes the TV to turn onto the last channel/input I was watching. So there we have it, my only real reservation to initially buying the TV was found and fixed. I went through all the other settings and set them to my preferences. Then I went to the App store and downloaded the apps I use. I also deleted the pre-installed apps that I will never use.

I also bought an OTA digital antenna. Since I've had cable for the last 20 years, I never dealt with that analog-to-digital conversion that happened 10+ years ago, and I never experienced all the new .2 and .3 digital channels there are now. Wow. After scanning stations, I had 84 OTA channels available. Honestly, there's enough on regular TV for me to watch that I don't really use the streaming apps. Why didn't I get rid of cable 10 years ago???

THE ONLY CON I have with this TV, is the way it displays OTA channels in the guide and in the quick-view bar.
1) The guide sorts by channel ID (alpha). I wish it sorted by channel number, or gave me the option to sort by channel #. In fact, it doesn't even show the channel # until you select a channel. I know in the modern era we are getting away from #'s. But I still like my channel #'s. If I want channel 9, I want to go scroll to channel 9, but instead I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to find WGN.
2) I miss having channel up and channel down buttons. Everything is through the "guide" now. You can press the down button, and you get a quick-select menu, which I find more convenient that the "guide." I would still rather flip from one channel to the next with 1 click and not have to go through menus.
3) YOu can set stations as your "favorite" and then show only favorites. But that only applies to the guide. The quick-select menu still shows every single station available. Since the quick select menu shows recently viewed stations first, my solution was just to go view each of my favorites, and then they show up first before all the other channels.

Given the few "cons" which are negligible, I would still buy this TV again, and I may end up buying a larger version of it for my living room the next time my projector lamp goes out. Definitely 5 stars for value received to cost.

I usually wait a month or more to review a product to insure I give a fair accounting of it. But this Amazon Alexa enabled TV is just to good to wait in the face of some poor reviews from people who didn't realize what they were purchasing or never used Fire-TV and Alexa before, both of which require a learning curve to love it.

PRO's:
Ease of setup - Took it out of the double packed boxes installed the stand legs, connect the power cord, and antenna cable, put the batteries in the remote and turned it on by the remote. It immediately went through the setup process where I put in my Amazon account information. That fast there was all of my Amazon Fire and Prime programs and history. Next it scanned the antenna for channels and found 15 more then the old TV could fine. In 30 minutes (I'm a Old man a younger man could do it in half the time) it was up and running.

Video - Great looking video. Played moves off the air and 4K content frome prime all of which is as good or very close to the much more expensive TV's.

Sound - The audio was great for vt speakers. I later hook up my old surround sound system which was even better.

Ease of Use - With Alexa control and the one putton channel guide finding just the right thing to watch is a breeze, but once again a learning curve to it.

CON's:

Shipping boxes - Good news / bad news the shipping boxes weighs as much as the TV. No pissedoff delivey man is going to hurt that TV. The bad part for me is I'm a 74 year old disabled veteran. If I do this again I'll ask someone to help.

Manual (what manual) - Other then a small quick setup guide there is no printed instructions. Maybe soon Toshiba will put one on their website. For me with little to do all day I was able to hunt and peck my way through it but others might not have the time.

All and all this one great TV especially if you are vested in Amazon Prime. All the feathers at this price is a great value.

I bought this 50-inch Toshiba on 2018 Prime Day for $289.99 and I had to buy it for that price. I have two other Toshiba TVs. One isn't a Smart TV and the other has Google Chromecast built in. This Toshiba with the Amazon Fire Stick built-in is much better. The menu is very easy to navigate and you don't have to use an app from your phone to operate the smart functions. Setup was super easy and fairly quick, but needed some software update time. Most importantly, the picture and sound are great. I have a soundbar, but the speakers on the TV alone are loud enough and have a quality sound. I definitely think this Toshiba deserves 5 Stars for the price and yes I'm a grown man that watches cartoons if you saw the pictures.

Update: I've had this TV for several months and it is still going strong. The picture is still crisp and it is continuously on for hours throughout the day. I've seen many reviews about losing internet connection, but I had a simple remedy to my internet issue. I did lose connection once when I moved my TV and had to disconnect the ethernet wire. I could not get the TV to connect to the internet after I plugged the ethernet cable back in and the wireless internet could not connect. The internet didn't connect until I did a factory reset and never had anymore issues. Even with that small issue that I had, I continue to love my Toshiba!

This is very easy to set up. For those who also have cable, this tv works extremely well with the cable box (yes, I still have one.) The picture quality is amazing.

Good morning! Yesterday my sister and I set up this tv and are amazed how simple it was to do. This is our first tv of this size and we are both in our 80s, -- but the setup was simple, actually it was fun. Amazon you have a winner here. We were glued to the set..the picture
Is beautiful.

I purchased this tv as a replacement for my broken bedroom tv. The picture quality is pretty decent, and the alexa voice control is a great feature. The voice control feature makes it easy to maneuver channels and the volume in the dark. In the past I have experienced volume issues with other smart tvs. The volume on this tv actually allows you to hear it. If needed I would definitely repurchase this tv in the future. :)

Now. let me start off with saying that i'm not an expert on TV's. My first HDTV was a Vizio 42 inch 1080p that i bought almost 5 years ago after high school. It looked great. I Paid $420 for it. I thought i got a pretty good deal on it. Fast forward to 2018 and 4k is still settling in and technology is moving forward. I was at work during Prime week and the website was terribly slow but i still wanted to see what they had in stock. I stumbled across this TV as i was going to be in the market for one during the holiday season 2018. When i found this TV, I was shocked at how much it was! $280! For a 50 inch 4k Fire TV with Alex built in, That's almost half the cost of my old vizio. I thought it was too good to be true. Reviews were mixed but i wanted to take a stab at it anyways. I ordered it and it was here 3 days later. My initial impressions were "eh". Setup was a breeze but there was more than that i had noticed. I decided on comparing it with my vizio with some Good Mythical Morning on YouTube. I Know it's compressed video but it was the best i had to work with at first. I watched one episode and I was kind of Disappointed. The Brightness was good but the color was kind of dull overall and over saturated on some parts of the image like a person's face, but i wasn't giving up there. Setting the TV's Picture color setting from default to natural completely changed the game. The Color was great! Everything seemed correct with pulling up a color correction test on YouTube and it looked great! The Speakers were OK but that doesn't bother me because i have a dedicated 5.1 Surround System that blows the socks on the TV speakers. I really wanted a bigger size TV overall since the 42 inch wasn't quite the size I wanted. The 50 Inch was the perfect size for my TV stand and it matched the room which is a pretty small living room but it worked just fine. Now it's $400 and i still think it's a good deal considering my 42 inch was $20 more. I run the TV 1080p still because my laptop does not output 4k but It still looks great. The Fire TV portion is good for what it offers. More Ad's than I liked but for the value, No big deal. The 4k Netflix Shows look great. HDR Looks really good. The only downside to this TV for me is when i'm playing Dolby Digital through any apps on the smart portion of the TV, the volume seems to fluctuate. I'm sure this can be fixed with a software update but It's what i experienced. I would give it a go if you're interested in getting a good TV for the Money and hey if It doesn't work out, 30 Day Return!

Thought long and hard before ordering this t.v. and I read alot of the reviews. Sept. 28th the Fire Edition 55inch was delivered. Easy to set. And I connected it to Amazon Dot but had to go to the settings and go under like music, books etc and find Fire T.V. and done. Well we still have a cable box and connected it with our HDMI and Ethernet cord. We noticed our picture would flicker & flutter for about a second or 2. And we decided we would send it back in case it was the LED lights and it would get worse. But after some research we found out we needed to update our HDMI cord to a 4k Ultra HD and HDR compatible that is premium certified(pictured) about 19 to 39 dollars for a pretty good one(we paid $39) and a Ethernet cord that Cat6 not Cat6a which cost about 15dollars. Or if your using Wi-Fi you don't need the EC. We replaced the old cords with the new cords and have been watch Netflix Seven Seconds, 7th episode in and the picture looks better and the picture has not flickered or fluttered at all. So we are happy. Hope this problem was fixed.

For $399, this is a really nice TV. It's not as bright as some of the TVs at the $1k pricepoint. The audio is fine for a basic experience, and stays clear even when it gets pretty loud. The remote control is clean and easy to use with minimal extra features (apart from that odd Sony placement). I really like that you have to press a button for the Alexa usage rather than having it be always-on and listening in the room. Alexa continues to be best in class for voice recognition and show search across multiple apps (e.g., finding a show in Netflix).

The only awkward thing is that the setup process is not what you might be used to from a FireTV or other Amazon product - it doesn't come preconfigured with your Amazon account and you need to log in and choose what apps to install. There are also a bunch of questions I didn't really understand (e.g., Full vs. Limited experience?). Netflix and other apps continue to have a tedious setup process of entering passwords manually for each application, even if you have other devices with Netflix or even other FireTV and Alexa devices in the house.

The defaults are pretty good, with allowing Alexa to control the TV's power off by default, though sharing personal information with advertisers for a "more customized experience" is unfortunately on by default.

So I bought this 50” Toshiba TV on Prime Day 2018 for about $250 I think. I was in the market for a new TV for the bedroom, and I was just about to purchase a Samsung TV with the Fire TV Cube. I knew Prime Day would be great to buy the cube, so I waited. When the day arrived, I stumbled across this Toshiba TV and thought, “Well shooot... I’m basically getting a 2-for-1 on this deal!”

Now before all the videophiles start booing my review, let me be clear in that the picture quality and aesthetics are not as solid as comparable or top of the line Samsung’s, but for the price and the location of the tv, I couldn’t pass up the $250 price tag (especially because Fire TV is a necessity for the way I driver my entertainment).

Having said that, I am extremely happy with the TV and would purchase another one for any other bedroom in my home. If I could make one subjective criticism, it would be that I wish the remote control was a little more universal. My Samsung TV’s remote is capable of controlling many of my DTV receiver functions and that makes it EXTREMELY convenient in the living room!

Hope this helps...

Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Cocktail Bitters 5oz

Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Cocktail Bitters 5oz

Very good product, but pricey. I now make my own chocolate bitters using cacao nib as the primary base.

not my favorite flavor of bitters but good quality and aroma. if you want to give any dish or cocktail a distinct 'spicy chocolate' smell or taste this will do the trick.

Very tasty. I bought this so I could try a Compass Rose cocktail (see A Bar Above). It is a wonderful addition to my home bar. It is also useful in the kitchen where we are adding it to all manner of things as an accent.

Run old fashioned w/ chocolate. Need I say more?

These bitters are awesome, I use them in my Manhattan.

The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11

The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11

Alert: the book is not the TV series, and vice versa. Each will have to be judged on their own merit. As for the book, the first half (roughly) is filled with detail about the origins of AL Qaeda and radical Islamist movements. I found this history, often giving depth to what we heard on the news, very informative, albeit a little overwhelming. Then the author chillingly reveals why the US intelligence agencies failed to prevent 9/11. The bureaucratic jealousy, the individual "scores" to be settled, and the stifling lack of individual courage among all but a few of the government actors, is maddening. Notwithstanding the creation of DHS in the wake of the failures chronicled in the book , this work leaves one skeptical of any really significant improvement just from moving the players around.. It is not and easy read because the names of the many Middle Eastern players is mind-boggling and the material is loaded with detail (The author tries to assist with a useful Appendix of the names.)

This is a well-researched, temperate account of how various modern fundamentalist Islamic movements coalesced under different leaders and became juggernauts moving toward various bombing attacks and finally – 9/11.

If you often just listen to the news casually, as background “Newsack,” you might not really understand the difference between such groups as Hamas, al Jihad, al-Qaeda, and the Taliban. This book distinguishes those groups by region, history, and leadership so that readers can approach currently unfolding news stories more intelligently.

“Looming Tower” starts in the early1950’s with Egyptian Sayyid Qutb, telling how his ultimate martyrdom gave impetus to much of modern terrorist activity. Wright proceeds through the formation of the Taliban in the wake of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, and on to bin Laden’s activities under the al-Qaeda banner. He tells how the latter became in effect, “a death-cult.” Enough biographical information is given about each of these leaders to convey a sense of who they were in their personal lives – of the frequent disjunction between what they did publicly and how they lived privately. There isn’t a huge amount of psychological analysis of how presumably religious people arrived at the point of justifying mass murder and suicide, but Wright does provide some insights into the process of transformation away from simple, often happy childhood days.

This book is written in straight-forward reportorial style. But it includes enough telling metaphor to graphically illustrate many points. For example, Wright tells how some factions fell away from having a centralized leadership and instead organized themselves into cells. This gave them a “spongy quality, clandestine, hard to combat.” With that one word “spongy,” Wright conveys the difficulty that U.S. and allied military forces have been up against.

The narrative includes some really surprising details about how Western and Middle Eastern cultures can differ in their interpretation of events. I had no idea how the Monica Lewinsky/President Clinton scandal was interpreted by many in the Middle East – and how it served to fuel further terrorist activity. Wright also tells of other instances where our failure to speak the language and realize cultural differences led to serious diplomatic and military miscalculations.

The last third of the book moves quickly, almost too quickly, towards 9/11. A lot of it is told from the perspective of FBI investigator John O’Neill. There isn’t quite the measured detail here that there is the first part of the book. I felt a little hurried along. Of course, events themselves were rapidly sweeping towards the terrorists’ fearful culmination. But I would have liked to have known somewhat more about how vital information that might have forewarned us got lost in the jostling egos of FBI and CIA operatives. Well, more detail on that score might have made this book too long and was perhaps better saved for separate books.

“Looming Tower” was first published in 2006, and includes an “Afterword” written in 2011. In that afterword, Wright expresses some optimism that a partial, peaceful resolution might be possible – an optimism that unfortunately doesn’t seem justified in light of recent developments.

There’s a map at the front of the book showing Middle East countries’ relationships to each other, and the location of key bases of activity. Wright also provides a list of “Principal Characters” at the back of the book, reminding the reader who’s who. Despite the many names in this book, I found that I didn’t often have to refer back to that reference section. Wright provides such a clear, chronological account, it was easy to keep track of the key players.

Who didn't see the tragedy of 9/11? Not many. However, " The LoomingTower " provides astonishing insights into what the government knew prior that infamous morning. Just as interesting is the summary of the genesis of Islamist Jihadism. The crucible of the terror/nationalist movement, Egypt, successfully controlled the the movement founders in their own country which forced the fanatics to other Middle Eastern countries. The relocation of the movement stakeholders subsequent to WW II is fascinating. The Russian invasion and then retreat from Afghanistan motivates the rebel groups to export their organized terror around the world in support of their twisted interpretation of the Koran. This fascinating story demonstrates how ignoring unique hard to piece together known information sealed the fate of the unfortunate innocents working in the twin towers, the Pentagon and the innocent passengers on the four airplanes that morning. If you think you have 9/11 fatigue you won't feel that way if you choose to ready " The Looming Tower ". This is a contemporary must read

This is the book that served as the source material for the series on Hulu of the same name. If you have seen the Hulu series you know that the focus of that was on the FBI and CIA infighting, lack of information sharing, and was largely set around John O'Neil and Ali Soufan. The book, on the other hand, focuses mainly on the rise of radical Islam and told the story of how the various splintered groups eventually came together to form what would be Al-Qaeda. The first 200 pages or so are devoted solely to the history of the major events and players in that world, and laid out how Osama bin-Ladin came to power, basically lost his fortune (he was nowhere near as wealthy as he was made out to be), and then managed to cobble together the force that would eventually attack the United States. Later in the book much of what the focus of the Hulu series plays out, including a lot of detail about what the CIA and FBI did and did not know, how if they actually worked together instead of against each other, the 9-11 attacks could have very likely been averted.

The main part of the book is just over 400 pages, then there is a glossary giving the backgrounds and current status of the major people mentioned throughout the book, and endnotes that flesh out the details in the book. The only picky point on the notes is that they are not actually referenced in the text of the book so there is no way to easily match up the note with what part of the text it is referencing (for the handful of people that would care to do so). As was the case with the series, the book does not focus much on the events of 9-11 itself. While the book does include a bit of detail about what was happening in and around the towers, that was relegated to just a part of the last chapter. The book finishes with the interrogation of Abu Jandal by Ali Soufan which was pretty much the climax of the series. Overall it serves as a good backstory of what led up to the attacks and the reasoning and justifications the terrorists used for launching suicide attacks against innocent civilians. It also does a very good job of detailing some of the dysfunction of the government agencies which failed to put together pieces and tied threads that could have stopped the attacks from happening. It is definitely worth the read.

This is a thoroughly researched book that describes the family background, recent history, and influences on Osama bin Laden, the beginning of al-Qaeda, and the events that led to the attacks of September 11, 2001. This book took me so long to read because it is so chock-full of information and threads of events I either didn’t know about, or didn’t realize were connected, I ended up buying a used copy once I started reading my library check-out, just so I could highlight passages that were critical to understanding (I also needed to buy another highlighter when my first one ran out of ink), so this kind of slowed me down a bit. Since there are so many names of people involved, many with similar names, or people who disappear only to pop up again sometime later, I was very grateful for the detailed playlist of principle characters provided, in addition to a map of the region, an index, and a bibliography.

The author describes bin Laden’s father, Mohammed bin Laden, a wealthy and well-connected man responsible for building a ramp to the Royal palace and a previously unattainable road over the al-Sarawat Range, which united the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, thus garnering favor with the Royal family, who subsequently appointed him honorary minister of public works. His growing reputation and Royal connections allowed for him to expand his businesses throughout the country, and at a time of financial difficulty, he loaned a substantial amount of money to the Royal family when the banks would not, further solidifying his relationship with the Royals.

Growing up in this privileged life, his 17th son, Osama bin Laden, also enjoyed a close relationship with the Royal family. Since he was further down the ladder in the order of sons, there were no positions of power within his father’s companies for him to assume, so he was left to “make his own way”. Of course, he was also provided a monthly stipend, so he never actually had a job, and this would be his primary source of income and how he financed his terrorist organization for much of his life. Surprisingly, he comes across as rather aimless and ineffective, lacking ambition or his father’s keen business sense. Without his father’s money to support him and his endeavors, it seems to me he would have become an unknown farmer, pontificating to his wives, children, and neighbors about the presence of Americans in the Middle East. It is only due to his father’s money and his willingness to spend it on the disillusioned masses that he found an audience for his disgruntled rantings and financially supported their destructive, rage-fueled fantasies of Islamic dominance.

While the book initially includes various events that occurred overseas, the author points out that bin Laden hadn’t really done anything at that point, and the events he publicly took credit for were events he had little to nothing to do with, so for some time, his reputation was being built on exaggerations or flat-out lies. His organization did continue to grow, but ignoring the aid of hindsight, there truly does not appear to the average reader to be a connection to the US that was overlooked by the authorities. There were, however, a handful of fastidious US intelligence agents who monitored bin Laden and those he financed throughout the 1990s, and they did see connections, but when they alerted others to the potential dangers posed by the largesse of this largely unknown man, without a direct or specific threat to the US, they were ignored. This error was further compounded by the folly of American bureaucracy and the unwillingness of the FBI, CIA, and NSA to work together and share information, which resulted in several missed opportunities. This is what I believe to be the crux of the “road to 9/11”: our intelligence agencies provided the unobstructed path with their lack of communication and teamwork. If each agency had not been so busy trying to keep any information they had away from the other agencies, they would have realized that they each possessed pieces of information that, when fit together, would have provided them with a better idea of what was going on, and could have led to the capture of key al-Qaeda members that would have thwarted their plans. Instead, their continued secrecy and stubbornness allowed known al-Qaeda members to enter the US and without hindrance, they were free to develop their plans.

On another disconcerting note, the author also points out that bin Laden knew he could not win a fight with Americans on US soil, and sought to devise a plan that would bring the fight to him, on “a large-scale front which it cannot control”, where American soldiers “cannot stand against warriors of faith who do not fear death”. Since Islamic extremists believe that jihad never ends, they would have generations of radical, resentful, and repressed Muslims, mesmerized by the myth of martyrdom, to fight the “eternal war” to defend Islam. We played right into his hands, waging war on their soil, where we have been for well over a decade now, without an exit strategy or an end in sight.

The author has done a fantastic job of writing a comprehensive history that creates a broader picture for the average reader to get a better understanding of how events that occurred a continent away would have rippling effects here in the US years later. This should be required reading for all.

He follows FBI counterterrorism chief John O’Neill as he uncovers the emerging danger from al-Qaeda in the 1990s and struggles to track this new threat. Packed with new information and a deep historical perspective, The Looming Tower is the definitive history of the long road to September 11.

National Book Award Finalist
Updated and with a New Afterword

Fascinating and well researched book written by Lawrence Wright, depicting the actions of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, CIA, FBI, and US State Department, during the years leading up to the 9/11 attacks in 2001. This is one of the most important books that I have ever read. The details in this book gave me a clear picture of the history of events that led to 9/11. And I could not put this great book down.
Al Qaeda and al-Jihad were both poorly operated and barely competent. But they survived early mistakes because the US had very little cooperation between the CIA, FBI, and State Department. Bin Laden and al-Qaeda could have been stopped. But the big three in the US were just as bumbling and stumbling as Bin Laden and his network were in the 1990's, albeit for different reasons. The rivalry between the CIA, FBI, and US State Department was a deadly one. It allowed Bin Laden's network to continue to thrive. The CIA committed the gravest sin because they had the pieces of the puzzle that would have destroyed Bin Laden and his network. But they refused to share this info with the FBI and US State Department, and our country paid a heavy price for it.

Unbelievable insight into the world of Islam. Emanating from Saudi Arabia outward like concentric circles a picture of a miserable, violent, murderous, people emerges. We helped immeasurably the Muslims via Bin Laden to eject the Russians from Afghanistan. Immediately after the Russians left that country descended into a murderous civil war. Bin Laden was there. Women and children rounded up village by village raped and murdered. Many sold into slavery. The year is 2010. Not some Ancient history. The notion of some great Caliphate under the Ottoman's called a Golden Age is fantasy. From 622 A.D. under Muhammad onward for six hundred years as Islam spread "Murder" was the most notable aspect Of Islam. Village by village be-headings of village elders, the kidnapping of all boy's under age eleven from their parents to be raised in Islamic military schools never to see
their parents again. They did have art work, mathematics, and some architecture. Every village that they slaughtered was graced with a Mosque and the people left alive were forced into Sharia. Women were valued lower than goats. No female births were recorded. Nor their birthdays. Nor deaths. But for Isabella of Spain and the Crusades the violent Theocracy would have engulfed Europe and Asia. I could not put the book down. It will frighten and enlighten.

I'll answer some of the questions I had before I bought this book.

1. Is this the best book to learn about everything that happened on 9/11?
Actually, no. This book doesn't spend a lot of time covering 9/11, surprisingly. In fact, it doesn't mention it much until the final chapter or so. But it doesn't really claim to either. The subtitle is 'Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.' This book is the buildup to 9/11. The why, more than the what. Why Al-Qaeda was formed? Why was America the target? Who was Osama bin Laden, really? If you are looking to find details of the hijackings, the planning and stories surrounding 9/11/2001, this is not your book.

2. Will this information heavy book be able to keep me interested?
Absolutely, yes. This book is extremely readable. It was the rare book that I never wanted to end. I would find myself closing it early because I wanted to save more for later. The growth of Al-Qaeda and bin Laden is fascinating. As atrocious and unforgivable as their actions were, I could find myself sympathizing for their cause at times. Minus a few unfortunate events, everything could have turned out so differently. But I guess that's how the past always seems.

3. Is this book deserving of the Pulitzer?
In my humble opinion, yes. It blows my mind to think about how the author managed to get all of this information. It's so detailed, so interesting. He must have some great contacts. And the book is written in a very matter-of-fact style. It never gets opinionated which is refreshing considering how tempting it must be due to the subject matter. Some books I read, and forget the author's name a couple of weeks after I finish it. Lawrence Wright is one I won't forget and will check out again. ('Going Clear' is great too, actually.)

To sum things up, this was not the book I was looking for, but it was great regardless. If you have any interest in the history of Al-Qaeda, definitely pick up this book.

I have been a fan of The New Yorker Magazine for some time so I was already acquainted with the writing of Lawrence Wright (and I believe I read some of his pieces about Al-Queda in the magazine as well), but I was watching the TV series based on his book, The Looming Tower (2006) when I decided to read it. I was under the impression that there would be more context in the book and of course there was. However, i surprised to find some of the details were taken form the book not made up for the series-John O'Neill's many lovers for one and Ali's retching after he found out that the CIA knew some of the members were in the US and did not share the information with the FBI. I always enjoy history books written by journalist, because they are well researched but the are also compelling narratives since they know how to weave a narrative rather than just put forth research as academics often do with history subjects. I particularity found the first section, "The Martyr" about Sayid Qutb and how the Egyptian jails were the birthplace of the modern jihadist terrorists due to t he torture they endured form FBI trained torturers. Wright makes informed observations throughout such as: "Radicalism usually prospers in the gap between rising expectations and declining opportunities. This is especially true where population is young, idle and bored; where entertainment -movies, theater, music-is policed or absent altogether; and where young men are set apart from the consoling and socializing presence of women." An impressive depiction and compelling narrative of the eve

This book details the origins of the idea that many Muslims felt that their religion was not strict enough and that this movement led to the origins of people who were looking for leader who interpreted the Koran in a conservative way. It also details bin Laden’s rise to power as he uses his influence and family wealth to fight the Russians in Afghanistan. The book also tells the story of how bin Laden points to the west and specifically the United States as the enemy of the Muslim world. As bin Laden builds his terrorist network our government agencies miss many opportunities to identify and catch those responsible for the 9/11 attacks. This is an excellent book full of details about the terrorist organizations and their leaders who have changed the world in a negative way. It is all here in vivid details and excellent writing. I enjoyed this book but it leaves you with a sense of sadness for those that we lost on 9/11 and the amount of hatred that exists in our world today.

DophiGo 1080P HD Dome 360° Wireless WiFi Baby Monitor Safety Home Security Surveillance IP Cloud Cam Night Vision Camera for Baby Pet Android iOS apps

DophiGo 1080P HD Dome 360° Wireless WiFi Baby Monitor Safety Home Security Surveillance IP Cloud Cam Night Vision Camera for Baby Pet Android iOS apps

First, let me say that this camera offers some very nice features for such a budget price. This two-pack was only $60, which I consider pretty cheap for cameras that pan and tilt.

Second, (and this is why they lost a star) the set up instructions are in great need of some better writing. It’s not immediately clear which software should be downloaded to use the camera – what you want is the IP360 app, not the Dophigo app. Also, there’s a lot of talk about a flashing blue light in the instructions. This never happens during setup. You’re better off just installing the IP360 app and following the prompts.

During setup, the app will prompt you for the name and password for your Wi-Fi, followed by some chirping sounds while the camera initializes. Once complete, the camera will take a panorama shot from where it is placed. This provides the app with navigational features. You might want to position the camera where you intend to keep it for this reason, but it is not really necessary. The panorama shot can be updated whenever you move the camera to a different location.

Features are pretty good on this camera, as I mentioned. You can tilt and pan, take pictures and videos, and it also has a talk button (although the audio is weak because of the tiny speaker), and you can reverse the picture on it in the event that you want to hang it from a ceiling. You can also turn off the status light on the camera if you don’t like the blinker. It has a motion detector and can be set up to send an alert if it senses movement. It also has night vision capability.

Finally, it will work looking through a window, as long as you're not attempting this at night. The camera has night vision capability, which means that it has an infrared light. This light will shine back at the camera if it is on. Works great during the day, though. So if you want it to look inside and outside by placing it on a window sill, it will work under most conditions

Customer support is not super-fast, but adequate. I sent an email describing my issue with the Dophigo app and was responded to early the next morning with instructions about using IP360 instead.

Overall, My opinion is that this is a pretty darn good camera for the money.

I bought two of these WiFi cameras for remote monitoring. I've never installed this kind camera before and was concerned if I can get them setup properly. It turned out they are fantastic and so easy to setup! Within 30 minutes, both cameras are running properly and exceeded my expectations. You first need to download an App called IPC360 and register and then connect to WiFi. Then connect the power plug to the camera, all it takes for you to connect the camera to your WiFi network is to push the reset button for 2 seconds. It will connect automatically. Once it connected, it will announce "Camera is Ready for Use".

The monitoring range is a true 360 degrees, and from the panoramic frame on your phone, you can choose any place in your room to watch closely. The images are very clear and I did not even bother to peel off the lens protection sheet. I have always wanted to be able to see my own home anywhere from my smart phone, this camera helped me to accomplish this. I am very happy.

It worth mentioning that the cameras are well packaged and shipped on time. I received them without any damage. The power plug is a sleek design, it does not occupy much space. And, there is no any plastic smell in cord or other parts.

It is easy to use, and has 360 degree remote controlled viewing, it also has speaker and microphone, and a memory card slot. It has a LAN connection plug (as one of the photos shows) in case you need it. Overall, it is a very good monitor camera. For the price that comes with two cameras, you can't beat the value. They are smart eyes and ears for your remote monitoring.

The manual said have to wait for a while after powered on before connecting to the WiFi. Second time I noticed there was a auto adjustment and make the connection afterwards and worked. The picture quality is decent and all other functions after setup seems great. It's convenient to adjust the view by swiping the screen on the phone while under the surveillance mode.

This camera was exactly as described. The quality and picture of the video is top notch for the price! When dealing with customer service, I have never dealt with any other company that held such high customer satisfaction. I would highly recommend this product and this company to anyone. The 4SDOT customer service cannot be beat. I cannot speak highly enough about the customer service in today’s market!!!!! Hands down the best.

Super good quality camera with very reasonable price. The product is easy to install and use. I bought two, one for the baby monitoring, and one for the outside of the house, both of which gave me a peace of mind.

Camera is easy to setup on Blue Iris

Camera is easy to setup on Blue Iris. Email the vendor for a link to the PC software.

I always change to a static IP address and change the password, then search for the camera in Blue Iris. Camera picture is good quality.

Bought this security camera for my house and it perform pretty well so far.
The image is crystal clear with light, and acceptable with IR on.
The only complain about it, it is the phone app that it come in stock. The video had a little lag when using the app.
But when I connect it with Blue Iris, it was working fine.
Overall, the price is very affordable, and it do what it said.

Cameras I bought to replace my Rio link which lasted only a year. Good picture and the adjustable sensitivity on the alarm is great. Good hardware and unlike the Rio cameras which have a reset cable that requires you to unmount the camera these you can do remotely. Night vision is good for only out to 25 ft so it is perfect for a door area but poor for a yard otherwise it would have got 5 stars. Daytime quality is spot on

Okay okay okay I got a brag about this a little bit... I purchased it for my mom because she needed to cameras for the house one for the pool area under the patio and the other one in the living room.. application setup with super easy let's get started with that.. cameras move 360 and it's amazing how they look.. can't lie the cloud service is very cheap not like some other companies.. you can set up schedule times for the motion detection and trust me when the motion detector kicks on you hear sirens coming out of the camera like if it's the cops.. I cannot stress how amazing that is.. very pleased I will buy myself some for my household and buy another set of 2 for my brother and sister.. I have rings which are great but since these were two for 60 bucks I was a little bit skeptical.. but I'm not going to lie they are amazing go ahead purchase them you will be happy trust me

My son purchased some for his house and recommended them. They are exactly what I was looking for. It's very quiet when it moves around, so people don't know I'm watching.  Honestly, I did this one just to test it out and I'm impressed. Great camera for the price. Had it a couple of days, now and have been able to play with the features. I get notifications in my phone within seconds of an alert and it is very easy to get to the alert. I am really glad I made the purchase.

Wyze Camera Wall Mount Bracket, Mrount Protective Cover with Security Wall Mount for Wyze Cam V2 V1 and Ismart Spot Camera Indoor Outdoor Use, White (2 Pack)

Wyze Camera Wall Mount Bracket, Mrount Protective Cover with Security Wall Mount for Wyze Cam V2 V1 and Ismart Spot Camera Indoor Outdoor Use, White (2 Pack)

I have mounted outside in the saltwater air with direct contact to freezing rain and very heavy winds for one month and it has held up well. I was skeptical of it's somewhat open design but survived through two Nor'easters and a snow storm...

Still Working fine no issues heavy weather winds February 26 2019

This wall mount for the Wyze cam works extremely well. It’s easy to install and gives good protection for the camera. If you are going to use the camera in an area the is exposed directly to the elements it could let water in but mounted under the eaves, it gives ample protection to keep your camera dry and working long term.

This case certainly seems to provide better protection than other cases I have purchased since the camera is also protected on the bottom as well as the top. Will water eventually find its way inside, not sure. I did however put silicon around where the power cord connects and I did use a piece of tape to cover most of the hole on the bottom leaving only a small area for ventilation and for water to exit should any find its way inside. .

I am not sure how well it will fair in strong rain, as there is no silicone gasket between the back and front and the front lens is exposed to open air. However, it allowed me to install the camera in a better location. It is supposed to rain all next week so time will tell how it holds up. I may eventually add silicone around the top and the USB cable in the back for better protection.

I read the warning on the screws and tried to be extra careful when I installed it. I drilled pilot holes, matched my screwdriver to be the correct size.
The result was the second of the two screws had the head start to strip while it was being screwed in. So do buy better 3rd party screws so this does not happen.

Pros:
* Excellent mounting option for Wyzecam.
* Easy to position camera where you want to aim it.

Cons:
*Not waterproof and maybe only slightly water resistant
*No cover for the front of the lens for water protection
*Soft pot metal screws strip quickly

I wanted to give this 3.5 stars, but not an option. For two of these, $20 shipped free to the door, it's OK. NOTE, this is not for outside use unless you put it under a large overhang, portico, porch roof etc... No way, I would feel comfortable placing in full sun. It does, however, fit the wyze camera well. But the weather resistant feature could be improved with some rubber seals around key areas that are obvious. I do like ease of assembly, and the included extra parts like the screws, anchors, and tiny screwdriver. Suggestion to seller.... nevertheless, I would ditch these tiny screws, screwdriver, etc... in place of a case design that just snapped or screwed together water tight and was simply tool free. I like the balljoint base attachment, and that part by the way, adjusts by hand and is tool free. My expectations two for $20, satisfied, not wowed, quality is just OK. But I had to have them to place my cameras where I needed them.

Very affordable. Does exactly what I wanted. My son installed this in his home, and mine after I saw how it performed for him. He did this one evening while visiting from out of town for the holidays. He was already familiar with the app and it was easy for me to use after his setup. He mounted one on the front porch and the back of the garage. Hiding the cords and plugs were a small challenge. He placed a plastic baggie with the extension plug inside on the garage and I do have an extension cord running into the exterior garage door but the security is worth it to me - the extra long extension cords are worth it and we could have used one more. The motion and sound detectors work very well and I can set the sensors to send notifications whenever I want, easily from the app. My interior foyer camera is set to pan every 10 seconds so I can see front and rear entrances. I added one in a room where my pets sleep so I can drop in and see them when I’m away. I placed this one on a nightstand and turn it to the wall when I’m at home. I like being able to use the voice feature and being able to hear. The motion sensors pick up cars driving by but I like being able to see when cars pull in and packages are left at my door. The “event” captures are brief but I was easily able to view the playback to see more. It’s also nice to be able to hear the garage doors going up and down so I don’t have to wonder if we closed the garage doors. I plan to purchase 2 more SD cards for the interior cameras to be able to use the playback feature inside as well as outside. My security system was installed 21 years ago so this is a nice supplement with the added audio and video features. I highly recommend this product, mostly because you just plug them in. The sensors will detect bugs, birds and chipmunks and lights and you can hear wind and rain - even picks up shadows of tree limbs swaying. All in all we are very satisfied so far. Shipping was prompt. I was lucky to have a techy son with experience with setting it up so I can’t say much about the ease of that but he did it in a couple of hours, including mounting the exterior cameras and setting up the app.

I purchased these to provide some protection from the elements for my outdoor Wyze Cam installation. The cam fits perfectly inside the housing. The cam is not entirely enclosed as the lens opening is exposed as well as part of the back panel to allow for the micro USB port. I have mine mounted under the roof overhang and have not had any issues. It seems to do well even with Florida downpours. I will definitely purchase more as I expand my outdoor security coverage. My only complaint is that the mount base is plastic, but seems durable enough.

I gave 4 stars because I couldn’t figure out how to Keep camera in position. I am very pleased with my Wyze camera and the Wyze enclosure! I placed under eave so it’s “out of sun and rain”. After reading others suggestions, I put some malleable, weatherproof putty over the holes to keep out insects, dust, etc. However, my problem was in adjusting the camera using the existing swivel. I wasn’t able to tighten camera in the position I wanted. With the use of my putty I rigged the attachment to stay in wanted position. That doesn’t show in picture. I’m sure a man who is more mechanically inclined than I am could figure the swivel out. I hesitate to say this because I feel it’s my lack of understanding the swivel and screw process and not the manufacturers fault, and that it’s simple once you’ve been shown how. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

This mount fits the Wyze Fixed Camera perfectly and is easy to mount and adjust.

One thing to be aware of there is no opening to daisy chain a power cable out to another camera. It does have an opening for the MicoSD power cable just not one for the normal USB port to power another camera. Not a negative unless you need this feature. I did not.

Overly impressed on what this adds to Wyze Cam. I was hesitant putting a non weatherproof camera outsize but it’s done the job! I’ve put this up and it’s endured several feet of snow coming down, freezing rain, and temperatures down to -20s °F(wind chill down to -50s °F). It is under and overhang in front of my house but it is definitely exposed to the elements still. If you have a Wyze Cam you’re wanting to check out I’d highly recommend this protective cover. Wyze Cam plus this cover is still a lot cheaper than any other security camera options currently. Note: I also did grab a 15-20 foot usb to microUSB cable as the Wyze Cam included cable is only maybe 6-10 feet which isn’t reasonable for outdoor use really.
