I like this radio a lot but the GPS receiver just doesn't work where we have it mounted. It is lower in the dash than we would like but it seems like it should still get signal there. Make sure it has a clear view of the sky where you mount it. If you can't do this, it isn't the radio for you. Next time I will buy an NMEA 2000 radio that gets it's signal from the network.
I take my 17 foot flats boat offshore in the gulf when the weather is good. My boat has a small console, and barely had room for this radio to fit. This was the only one I could find that would fit and I am super happy with my purchase. I like how it give the coordinates on the screen.
I have this paired with a shakespeare whip antenna and the sound quality is great! I've had the same antenna on a couple of icom radios, and the sound quality was not as good.
I strongly recommend this for those with limited space. I will probably add standard horizon vhf to my bigger boat when it is time to replace them.
I had to send in my current VHF for repair (icom) I run a charter boat so not having a VHF wasn't an option so I ordered this. Shipped very fast and arrived as described. Easy to use and easy to install but I did notice it doesn't reach out as far as my Icom does. But there is also a huge price difference for the money this is a great unit. I do recommend an external speaker the one in it sucks that's why I'm giving it 4 stars
Only 4 stars because the speaker is C.R.A.P.! You can't use this radio without an external speaker, but other than that, the unit's gps function, transmit range, and overall ergonomics is great. Just be sure to purchase an external speaker...seriously.
A great product! I go offshore fishing every week and wanted a VHF that I could rely on and that had the GPS built in for emergencies. I've used the Standard Horizon many times and never had the first problem. I go offshore with confidence knowing this radio will work when I need it.

First unit I received was defective, speaker all muffled but they replaced it and it's really an excellent unit! I connected it to my Garmin chartplotter and I can see my friend's boat on the lake. Sound is loud, mic is good and for the price you can't beat it. Do keep in mind NMEA standards on this tho!
Standard horizon radios are good and not cheap.
there are a lot of cheaper options available----but if you ever get into real trouble the water, the few saved dollars won't be of much help.
Great little radio! Love the GPS feature! Excellent price for the features. Was able to buy this radio for the price of a GX1300 in local stores.
Good range, auto distress digitized and very water resistant.
Product arrived on time, as promised. Installation was straightforward and GPS works inside of our boat.
