Scanmarker Digital Highlighter - OCR Pen Scanner and Reader - USB Version (Mac & Win)

Scanmarker Digital Highlighter - OCR Pen Scanner and Reader - USB Version (Mac & Win)

I use the scanmarker for my dyslexia. I simply highlight a word or sentence that I want to hear aloud and the scanmarker program on the computer reads it aloud. It also can be used for other things like copying sentences into a word or pages doc (might be useful for homework) and for translating text to be read aloud or to insert into a doc. If you don't mind having a wire then get this version. If you feel like having a wire will bother you, you can get the air. Honestly, you have to hook it up to a computer either way so it's not like you won't have to be sitting at a computer anyways. But it's a preference. I don't know if this is a design flaw or just happening to me but the USB Mirco B keeps coming apart from my scanmarker a lot. However, since it does come apart you can replace it with another USB micro B which, is nice because we all know wires go bad and it would suck if it was completely attached and you had to buy a new scanmarker every time the wire went bad. So I'm not really complaining.

Ok, I never write reviews, but this product is magic. I am a grad student. I used to read and laboriously type up notes at a rate of about 15-20 pages an hour. With this Scanmarker, I am now at 30-45 pages an hour. Moreover, my notes are clearer and so my comprehension has also improved. The scanned text goes straight into word and so can be edited. I am so thankful.

I'm a phd student studying for comprehensive exams. I need to shave some serious time off my note-taking, especially typing out quotes from library books. I've been using this for almost a week now, and when I put down the $70 (that I shouldn't really be spending anyway), I was super hoping that I wouldn't have buyer's remorse, and I'm happy to say that this thing works better than I expected, and it works better once you get use to the right speed (which, btw, you can really zoom with this thing; you actually need to drag it fast for it to work properly). So far, for me anyway, the highlighter trips up over romanized ancient greek words and atypical punctuation (like brackets). Aside from minor corrections here and there, I can typically go several lines, and it works just fine, even with tiny fonts. Also, the usb cable doesn't bother me a bit. Oh, and it occurs to me that I'm probably saving myself from some kind of carpal tunnel problems with all the typing i typically do. Was feeling mild tendonitis in my elbow a few weeks ago. This is easier.

I'm a law student so I was looking for a way to brief cases for class faster, and this has been awesome. It's not always 100% accurate, but it takes me about half as long to brief a case than if I did it by hand. When you're reading hundreds of pages per day and need to be able to recall lines of text in class, being able to shave some time off writing your class notes is immensely helpful. I recommend it to my classmates all the time, best $80 I've spent this year.

I'm a graduate student in literature. The Scanmarker is an excellent tool for my research: I'm able to take citable notes from library books with a quick scan rather than spending days retyping the printed text. The marker does sometimes struggle with strange symbols, italics, or the curvature of a book (near the spine), and I do have to proofread/make minor corrections to everything that's scanned, but I still save a LOT more time than I would doing all this by hand.

Also, Scanmarker customer service is excellent. I accidentally used the marker in trial mode for the first month and managed to lose my code (oops). I contacted the help link through Amazon. I got a response within two hours with a new code--no hassle.

I really love this thing. It makes typing notes from a book 10x faster, and I love it! The only gripe I have is that it does not handle double letters very well at all. For example, the word "lessee" comes up as "lese". However, it's pretty easy to fix, and any other errors that come up are pretty easy to fix, whether it just be fixing a word or deleting the whole line and doing it again. Although there are frustrations, the product is very good at what it does. Fix a few things and make it more accurate and this will be a five star product for sure.

Tried the ScanMarker and loved it! its so intuitive and easy to use!!! English is not my first language and often I use a translator (either on my iphone or my computer), but the existing options are usually slower compared to the Scan Marker. while reading I can not only translate, and learn how to say the word, but also immediately copy it to a word document! Awesome!!! I am using it all the time - work (writing scientific reports and papers) and home. I wish they more colors to choose from, but all in all I think its great!

I absolutely love this tool! It has really upped my notetaking game. It's very easy to use and smooth for the most part. It actually works best when you "highlight" the text faster. However, it does not do well with hyphenated words that end on one line and continue on the next line. This is the only reason for the 4 star rating. I definitely recommend it, especially for those who need to remember things verbatim and for those who do a lot of literature review and subsequent writing. It really helps you can key notes organized. I haven't tried the translation feature yet but it does fairly with converting my handwritten notes as well.

The product is amazing I like it so much he can read also when you scan the words and has translate if you need it. You can use it for iPhone and computer.

Got this for my husband for some technical classes hes taking... he has horrible handwriting and struggles to take notes and make flashcards. He LOVES this thing. He scans his textbook and prints out what he wants to remember on flash cards and says it's the best thing for class. Possibly the most useful gift for someone who needs to take a lot of notes, and the best gift I've ever given him! He said setup was easy and it took him no time to get into a good rhythm. 10 stars if I could!
