I ate a lot of tuna when I growing up, then stopped eating it about thirty years ago, when the news came out about the high levels of mercury. So I was happy to learn about this brand, and glad when they came out with a "pouch" version. The price is right (about three bucks for 21 grams of protein); they're portable and easy to transport in a lunchbox if you want to have them as a snack when on the road.
P.S. The price has just shot through the roof! It was thirty five dollars, but now is sixty five dollars (in December 2017)! Hopefully it will go down soon. But in the meantime, do a Google search; it's available elsewhere online for two dollars and fifty cents per pouch.
I saw how this brand tests every piece of fish they use for their products. Their standards are higher than the FDA's & the mercury level is much lower. They offered their technology to the FDA & other brands, but that would hurt their profits because of the lower quality fish they're allowing to pass inspection. It's a shame that people aren't aware of it.
I am very sensitive to mercury in fish, so it's hard for me to find fish products that do not cause headaches. I am so grateful to have found this brand as I can now eat tuna without any pain. Highly recommend. The taste is also really bold and fresh, makes great tuna salad.
I usually buy the 5-ounce cans of Safe Catch Elite Tuna, but thought the 3-ounce pouches would be better suited for my needs (single serving, no leftovers).
3 ounces is a good size for a sandwich or on top of a salad. I always mix the tuna with a good quality Chipotle mayo, which adds a little more volume. 3.5 ounces would probably be ideal, but at least there are no leftovers, as opposed to the cans.
These 3-ounce pouches come out to about $2.50 per pouch, or 83 cents an ounce. That is slightly higher per ounce than the cans, which come out to around $3.50 per 5-ounce can, or around 70 cents per ounce. But the convenience of the pouches is worth it. The pouches are easier to carry, less bulky, easier to open, and I don't have to worry about leftovers. Still, the only reason I am going to pay more for this tuna is because of the lower mercury content.
This amazingly fresh, dense, colorful, fragrant and delicious tuna in a pouch run about $3 each, but if you want safe, great tasting, conscientiously sourced tuna, this is the way to go. Better than Wild Nature tuna, and the only one on the market with every single fish checked for safe mercury levels. Nice packets, excellent product.

Description
Elite is our lowest mercury tuna. It's a great choice for athletes, kids & pregnant women! √ MERCURY TESTED We hand pick premium wild tuna, then test each and every one to a mercury limit that is ten times (10x) lower than the FDA action limit. Safe Catch Elite is the only brand of tuna that meets Consumer Report's low mercury criteria for pregnant women and children. Safe Catch Elite is the official tuna of the American Pregnancy Association. √ ARTISAN COOK PROCESS Most canned tuna loses flavor and the majority of Omega 3s due to precooking and machine processing. We hand pack premium raw wild tuna steaks to retain all the vital Omega 3 oils and nutrients and then slow cook them to perfection. √ NOTHING ADDED, NOTHING DRAINED We don't add oil, water, fillers, preservatives, or GMO-Soy broth to our tuna. It's just pure wild tuna. Just empty the can into a bowl and mix together so the tuna reabsorbs any natural oils or fish juice that has settled. Please do not drain. √ SUSTAINABLY CAUGHT Our Elite tuna is wild and sustainably caught without using FADs or long lines. We are a proud partner of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.
I was first attracted to this tuna fish because of health considerations and was delighted to find that this tuna is DELICIOUS--not "fishy" at all and has good texture. I also like the packaging in individual servings because I don't want leftovers. I'm glad I can order it by the case so I can always have it on hand.
Due to multiple food allergies I often find it hard to find safe tuna fish I can eat. I ate the first package of this recently and it tasted great. I appreciate knowing it is safe catch wild tuna. I will continue to purchase this tuna in the future.
My daughter and I are very conscious of health and environmental issues and chose this tuna because it not only has a very low level of mercury but because it is sustainably wild caught. As first a pregnant and then a nursing mom, my daughter was able to enjoy this tuna without concern! The product arrived well-packed and in a timely manner.
I am very happy that it is mercury tested, they are very conscious about the environment and it doesn't taste "fishy" at all!. Also, they are prompt to reply from customer service.
I suppose if mercury levels freak you out, this would be worth the price but I was expecting a larger packet/amount for this cost. The flavor is very salty/intense, which in of itself may not be a bad thing for you so the quality is certainly there but I am not sure this justifies the double-the-price-tag for me. I'd like to give it 3 stars but I don't think cost alone should be the reason to decrease their rating. 4 stars bc I don't thinks its enough product for what you spend.
