I was a teenager in the 1960s. Everyone owned a transistor pocket-sized AM radio and rocked to KJR's Pat O'Day in Seattle, Washington. This was our "must have" mobile device - the Post-war Baby Boomers' equivalent to this generation's "I-Phone" and smart phone. My review compares this product to the numerous that I owned during my teenage years.
.
.
ADVANTAGES
.
1. PHYSICAL FEATURES: The unit is small and very light. There are only three simple controls: volume, station tuning, and AM/FM/Power ON-OFF switch.
.
2. VERSATILITY: FM stations are received as well as AM.
.
3. MUSICAL QUALITY: The speaker is surprisingly good. The music is clear, and the volume is loud.
.
.
DISADVANTAGES
.
1. RANGE: The operational radius is short. I can only receive Seattle stations inside my over-insulated house. These include 15 FM and 11 AM.
.
Suburban and neighboring city radio stations were weak. The quality of their transmissions were garbled and distorted.
.
2. No head phones were provided.

Comparing this product to the transistor radios of the 1960s, the DEGEN FM/AM 2 BAND RADIO is significantly superior in every attribute: size, weight, sound quality, versatility, and simplicity. Both were equal in reception distance.
Amazing little radio which is a real performer for it's size. The reception is really good and not bad sounding either.
This seems to be close to the famous Kaito KA 200. UPDATE I found the little radio to be amazing, it's reception is really dumbfounding, it pulls in signals from hundreds miles away after dark. This is a great deal, don't miss it. You will never find another radio at this price with this level of performance.
Awesome little radio! I was thinking what can you possibly get for $10.00, took a chance based on other reviews. This gets better reception than radios costing 2-3Xs the price of this one. Sound is good! Gets all the local stations, cool 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
What a cute little radio, said my wife.
Don't let it's diminutive size fool you. It acts like one of the big guys. Reception is very good, as is sound and volume. And - -- - it stands on its own!
Make a great gift and easily recommended.
Great little radio! This little thing packs a punch, which surprised me because of the price. I use it for work since we're not allowed to use our phones. It sounds great and can be really loud. Signal is great. Very happy with my little radio.

I have 4 different small AM/FM portable radios. This is the best of the lot. It pulls in local and distant stations much more clearly than the other three. It is smaller than a pack of cigarettes. The mode switch (AM/FM) is not easily moved unintentionally. It puts out phenomenal sound for it's size. The design is superior. Well worth the price. Works great with or without headphones / earbuds. Holds stations very well when I am out gardening or walking the dogs.
The radio in my car went out and I hate to drive without music, so purchased this radio to use until I have repairs made. I have been pleasantly surprised, since the reception and sound is excellent. Only problem I had, is because the radio is so small, I have to put my glasses on to set the station before I set out, but other than that the radio was a very good choice.
This is a handy compact radio. It seems well made. The case is sleek with rounded corners to slip easily into a shirt pocket. It is smaller than a deck of playing cards. I carry it in the yard so I don't miss the news on NPR if I get busy and forget to go back in the house at six PM. The sound from the built-in speaker is better than I expected, but this is still basically a little radio, not a HI-FI set. Tuning is tricky as the stations are real close on the scale, but I solved that by listening to another radio as I sought out the NPR station on this one. I only need that one FM station. I am about 25 miles from our local radio towers and reception is fine even indoors. Frankly, the price is cheap for the value I believe I received. Shipment was within a couple of days.
This radio uses batteries faster than the similar Kato. I have to turn the volume control all the way up to get decent sound. When I turn it on I find that the frequency has changed and I have to retune. Not a bad radio, just not really good. I bought it because the slide switch on the Kato jammed and eventually broke.
May 9, 2019. After my review Prunus Degen emailed my an offer to return the radio. I didn't, because the radio is inexpensive and I didn't want to bother returning. Within a few days Prunus Degen said they were voluntarily sending another radio. This one has been trouble free. Battery life is excellent and frequency drift does not occur. I'm changing my review to 5 stars and adding another 5 stars to Prunus Degen for their outstanding service and attention.
What a great buy for such a small price and such a powerful little radio!
I was concerned about the clarity of reception as I live surrounded by tall trees; however, this little radio's sound is amazing. I bought this for an emergency earthquake kit; however, I will be using this way more frequently due to the quality of the sound on both AM and FM. Very pleased! Highly recommend.
