My sister recommended this case when I was looking for a case for my new ipad. She has a three year old that often uses hers to watch youtube videos. And if it can hold up to a preschooler, then it must be a good case!
I also like the fact that it's not like other cases that fold. For some reason, those cases always feel awkward to hold and I feel like I will drop them. But the otterbox case feels sturdy and maybe a bit bulky for some, but that doesn't bother me. I also like that it comes with a stand built in so you can sit your ipad in landscape or portrait mode. And then the stand doubles as a cover so you can take it all in one piece. Looks almost like a little notebook when it's closed like that.
I had some difficulty taking the case apart to put the ipad inside, especially the rubber cover, but I saw on a youtube video if you take a credit card, you can pry it apart. If you have trouble putting your ipad in the case, I suggest going to youtube as there are some videos that can help.
Overall, I really love this case! It's sturdy enough that I feel like it can protect my ipad if I drop it, and the stand is so convenient! Keep in mind that it is bulky and maybe a littler heavier than other cases, but if it keeps my ipad protected, I feel it's worth a little extra bulk!
Well worth the purchase for the cover alone. Dual layer protection with quality components.
However the attached screen protector is just OK. It’s nice to have something there for your screen, but in regards to visibility it’s mediocre. Since it’s attached to the case and not clung to the screen itself it can be distracting. Its noticeable when you look for it or use a stylus. Not a fan of the separate lid/stand thing so I stored it away. To keep the screen protected for slipping in and out of my backpack I sorted a simple fix.
Pull off the stock screen cover and rub away at the adhesive remnants. Chemicals are risky so avoid them on clean up. Then, I applied Ankers screen protector which was $10 and clings directly to the screen. they include wipes and a small tool to help eliminate bubbles. Take your time to make it right and it is well worth it. Screen is protected and the Otterbox case fits just as before. A perfect combo.
Love Otterbox products and this one was no exception. However, Apple's decision to call the newest generation of the iPad just "iPad" did not make finding the proper model particularly easy. Purchased the wrong one and then had to wait three months for the correct one to become available. Everything should be okay now, though identifying the right model may still be a little testy.
I have purchased the OtterBox Defender series for each of my iPhones, so I was glad to see that they make one for my iPad as well. The multi-layer protection is works, guarding against drops, dents, and scratches, though you still have the necessary access to the buttons and charging ports without removing the case. And when it's time to trade-in my device, I will get top dollar for my unbroken and unscratched iPad.

After doing a lot of research on if this would fit this years iPad from the black Friday sales...I decided to to go with it! There are mixed review on whether or not this fits...IT DOES FIT the iPad 2017 version sold on black Friday (wifi only tablet with 32G)! As always Otterbox cases are the best when it comes to protection! I wouldn't buy any other case for myself and especially not for my kids! You cannot go wrong buying this for your iPad if you want it to last!
So far, so good. I have only had this case for a day, but based on my experience with Otterbox cases for an iPad 2 from 2011 (which has been kept in perfect condition with the Otterbox Defender case from that time despite numerous drops to the floor) and two iPhones, I imagine this will be the same great quality. Easy to put on and fits well. Arrived on time and in "frustration-free" packaging. A little pricey, but worth the investment to protect an expensive device. It would be nice if this case came in other colors besides black.
Great iPad case, everything fits together perfectly, it's a bit bulkier and heavier than I thought, but that's fine by me.
Everything snaps together perfectly. Volume and power buttons still work great. It's a bit tricky to get out of the top cover/stand at when it's snapped in, but nothing crazy.
I have kids so I need to protect against drops, so I wanted a case with some rubber corners on it. This and the Dux case were the only contenders I could find. I'm not a fan of screen protectors as they reduce screen clarity and reduce touch sensitivity and the built in glass is really scratch resistant anyways--it's not like I'm accidentally putting this thing in my pocket with some car keys. So I was a bit hesitant about the Otterbox defender, but it was 15 bucks cheaper than the Dux at the time so I decided to give it a go.
I ended up ripping out the built in screen protector and home button cover which wasn't too difficult, it was much more difficult to remove all the glue residue. I ended up using some "Oops! Multi Purpose Remover" and that did the trick. Everything still snaps together great and nothing is loose.
I'm finding the stand more useful than I thought it'd be, especially the low angle mode as it tilts the screen away from overhead lights so they don't reflect into your eyes. :) Overall I'm a happy camper.
You can’t beat OtterBox for a tough as nails case. We got two of these for our 4.5 year olds iPads. They are rough and drop them a lot and these cases are doing a fabulous job. They go on very securely and I like the built in screen protector. The tough snap on cover is nice to have for travel and I like how you can use the cover as a stand as well. I definitely recommend these cases.
It seems that most of the cases design either sucks, doesn’t prosthetic iPad enough or with the last case I had detoriates within months. I don’t care to have an otter box because they are large and bulky and also expensive. But they do a decent job of protecting. First thing you gotta do is take a hairdryer or a heat gun to the plastic shield remove it and replace with plastic or glass because the rainbow effect and clarity is horrible.
