This is my second buy and second review. Been to the doctors for my routine visits since I last purchased this salt and my blood pressure readings were the best I mentioned it to my cardiologist that it was this salt and he didn't object to me eating it. He only told me that if I get dizzy he will have to reduce my blood pressure medication. I now put a pinch in everything I eat including my green smoothies, and oatmeal. If you suffer with hi blood pressure you MAY want to try this and advise your doctor. Do not ask your doctor tell them what you going to do for 2 months to see if this changes your readings. If my high blood pressure returns I will update my review BUT I DONT THINK SO.
HonestReview- Very good salt! It taste.........hmmmm.......salty! I haven't purchased white iodized salt in forever and I am glad I found this healthier alternative. This 5lb bag should last a long time also. I purchased the extra fine so I can put it in my salt shaker. One reviewer said to purchase "fine" not "extra fine" if you're going to put it in salt shaker, but I found the "fine" sometimes is too large to fit through the holes (might just be my salt shaker). Another reviewer also said the "extra fine" is more like powder, and that is not the case. Please see my pictures for a comparison between, Black Pepper, Extra Fine Salt, and Garlic Powder. Whichever size you get they all taste the same. The great thing about this salt is that it isn't stripped of its natural nutriments nor is anything added like iodine (like in your typical table salt). There are similar salts mined from different locations with different colors and flavors (I have a few), but this is my go to to put on potatoes, steak, eggs, basically anything that I need salt for. This is a great buy, I suggest purchasing the big bag already!
I've been using this salt since 2012 and it's wonderful. People may not be aware but Himalayan Salt is actually good for you and even helps with high blood pressure. These are just a few benefits of himalayan salt: Aids in vascular health
Supports healthy lungs and respiratory function
Promotes a stable pH balance within the cells
Reduces the signs of aging
Promotes healthy sleep patterns
Increases libido
Prevents muscle cramps
Increases hydration
Strengthen bones
Lowers blood pressure
Improves circulation
Detoxifies the body of heavy metals
Hi. I seldom write product reviews. I read reviews and saw that someone lost weight with this added to water with lime. I then proceeded to read and research on the web of the many benefits of Himalayan salt. It is also an antihistamine , I ordered it. I have very severely clogged sinuses and could not breathe without the help of dipenhydramine the last 3, 4 years. I take this , a pinch of it to some water and lime daily and I can breathe much better and do not need to use dipenhydramine any longer. No weight loss yet as I can tell!!!!!! It is supposed to have many other beneficial qualities as well. Hope you have good results. I am very pleasantly surprised that it has helped so much.
First of all I want to say that my family has been buying the Sherpa brand of Himalayan salt for years from Amazon and we love it. It is tasty, provides naturally occurring nutrients that other non-Himalayan salts don't and doesn't smell "funny" (at least to my family) as one or two reviewers have stated, We use it for all of our salt needs. I do wish the Extra Fine was just a little finer grain but that's a personal preference and certainly not a reason to stop buying this brand.
Second, I always read the 1 star reviews to see what others are saying to make sure I am not missing something. At this writing there were about 20 one star reviews out of almost 1,200 reviews. Most were about sand or grit that wouldn't dissolve. Having read 1 star reviews on other brands I see that most of those are also about sand or grit so I conclude that this is a natural substance in Himalayan salt and am not worried about it. I have NEVER noticed it so the amount of the sand or grit that triggers someones Grit Red Light counter is as always, subjective. Many of the other one star reviews were just silly, things like claiming that the "smell must be from a pink dye" (really? that's quite a conclusion to jump to with no other basis than a guess!), or that it isn't Himalayan salt because it comes from Pakistan (unless there was a recent huge geological upheaval that I wasn't aware of, the Himalayas still run through many countries, including Pakistan).
Bottom line for me is the product meets/exceeds my expectations for quality and taste and is an excellent value, especially in the 5 lbs size.

Recently went to a nutritionist and she told me about this salt and how all of the minerals are left in this. I bought a grinder with a ceramic blade so it wont rush with or erode from the salt eventually. I am thinking of buying a smaller shaker/grinder as well so I can take with me when I am dining out. I also made pasta last night and still put some of this in the water for boiling and it seemed to work just fine. My kids like the actual grinding so it is a win win for us all. Healthy and fun for them.
Please let me know if my review helped in your decision making process one way or the other. =)
This is a re-order of Sherpa Himalayan salt, a brand with which I've been very happy. I switched to the pink Himalayan salt a few years ago; love the taste and enjoy health benefits of this natural product. I'm hooked on this stuff and have become a bit of a 'salt snob', not wanting to use processed white salt when I'm at restaurants and such. I was very happy to find a package of 6 mini plastic salt shakers in the party section of a dollar store for $1.00, so I now can easily carry my pink salt in my purse and enjoy it when the occasion arises. Love this salt!
Purchased this gourmet "extra fine" salt to replace my existing, cheap supermarket salt. My first observation is on the grain size. This product is coarser than regular salt. It's closer to beach sand in size. It's also more uneven, running from powder to coarse grains. See photo attached to review of this product compared with regular table salt.
This I discovered when I used the salt shaker and found the amount being dispensed was not in proportion to the amount of shaking. Mostly the powder and fine grains came out. While the coarse grains do fit through the hole, unless they are lined up, they come out at a slower rate. Thus, the grains that come out of the shaker isn't reflective of what is inside the shaker.
I ended up drilling larger holes in my salt shaker top to fix this, which may or may not be an option for you. Now I am happy with the dispense rate.
The next issue is that the powder sticks to the outside top of the salt shaker. This I noticed after a couple days of using it. I typically shake the salt out at a 45 degree angle to control the flow. Some of the salt cascades down the top of the shaker, and the powder is too light to overcome the friction at that angle. And there you have it, a salt shaker with a powdered top. So now I have to wipe the top clean every so often. A little cosmetic inconvenience.
As far as the product itself, it tastes like regular salt. I do notice the larger crystals when shaken on food just prior to eating. It's a slight, salty crunch that I like. I find that they add a little flavor pop to the meal.
A side note: While vendor offers "extra fine" and "fine" grain levels as documented in one of their product listing photos. This isn't reflected on the product itself. No where on the actual package does it say "extra fine" or "fine". They also use the same photo in both listings, and in those photos it doesn't show the grain size on the package either.
I suspect that if you purchased the "fine" and "extra fine" products, you'd get the same exact product - an uneven, powder to fine grain salt that won't work properly in all regular salt shakers.
Side note #2: Some others have complained about sand / particulate matter in the product. There is a disclaimer on the package, which you can read on the back in fine print if you zoom in on the product photo. Spoiler alert: It does contain insoluble mineral deposits.
I like the actual product, I just think that it could be more accurately described in the listing to let people make an informed choice. The fine / extra-fine mystery is not cool either.
Mine is definitely not a powder as another reviewer said, even tho it is "extra fine". The grains are about twice the size of regular table salt. (See photos. Pink on top.) It came in a nice resealable bag. To me, it tastes the same as table salt, so it's nice to have a healthier alternative without sacrificing flavor. Not sure about the "no iodide" part tho.
Super fast shipping. Use sea salt all the time and it's granuals are too large to put in a salt shaker. This one is a fine grain and works well in my salt shaker. FYI, sea salt doesn't contain iodine which our bodies really need and its something we don't always get enough of in our regular (sometimes poor) diets. That's why most table salt we buy contains iodine. If you primarily use sea salt in your cooking and including topping our foods. I recommend supplementing with iodine, but must be a certain type of iodine. I use a topical iodine. I'm unable to look at the bottle just now. If y pop you submit a question I will have the answer later. Oh.....also, if the iodine soaks into the iodine soaks into the skin relatively quickly it certainly indicates you're body is low in iodine.
