Sabrent 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Individual Power Switches and LEDs (HB-UMLS)

Sabrent 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Individual Power Switches and LEDs (HB-UMLS)

So far so good. Works well, does not get hot at all (i read posts about them getting hot). All of the plug ins ports work. I have my interface, two hard drives and my iphone plugged in. I use them all day long have for the past couple of weeks since i got it and doing great. The buttons are smooth and easy to press. OOOOOOOONLY THING IS.........THE PORT IS A LITTLE TIGHT SO YOU HAVE TO PUSH your USB IN AND PULL OUT A little HARDER THAN NORMAL ......but not that much.. it's just noticable tighter.

if what I wrote was at all helpful please click so below so I know this helps others. Thanx

I was amazed at the quality of this unit, (and I'm a gadget freak). It has solid USB connections. Nothing loose and cheesy about it. I attached it to the face of my tower PC with mounting tape. Looks and functions very solid. I'm an amateur photographer and am constantly disconnecting one-to use it for something else. Having this has saved me a great deal of frustration. I can even leave the cables plugged into the hub and just power off the L.E.D. power switches, so now I don't need to hunt for cables. I'm using it full time now for a month and have had no problems whatsoever. I'm VERY glad I got over some of the "if'y" reviews and bought this.

A great little USB hub. I love the fact that it has buttons with blue light indicators to turn individual ports on and off. I was hoping to get the one with the power adapter hole and I did get that model! (Model HB-UMLS) BUT...The packaging and info included did not include any information of what kind of power adapter I'd need. The hole for it measures at 5mm but I'll have to look up what exact voltage and amperage I need.

In one of my pictures (attached) I show it powering a Razor Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 keyboard and a Logitech G35 surround headset (and a scanner and a second laser mouse - which don't use that much power anyway; mostly data).

Plugged my phone in with both of those going and it wouldn't even register as a data device. I disabled the other two ports with those devices in them and my phone came on as a data device and started charging. I guess it can only power one device that needs that much power. It can power more if I get the right adapter.

I am probably saying the same thing that at least 2610 other reviewers have stated: this thing works great for what you need. I am a passionate photographer and my computer only has four front-end USB ports. I need two for the keyboard and mouse alone, another for my phone, and another for my transfer cable from camera to computer. I got tired of having to unplug one device for another and then forgetting to plug the device back in.

A blue light comes on when a USB port is active, but a button press by the port can shut that port off.

This little gadget is a great deal at the current price.

I bought this USB 2 hub instead of a USB 3 hub primarily to connect wireless dongles that can suffer from interference when connected to a USB 3 port. The buttons come in handy especially when trouble shooting compatibility issues, or when devices need to be turned off and on to get to work again, or just to turn off a device you don't need at the moment.

I have connected this hub to one of my mainboard's USB 2 ports via a 10' USB 3 extension cable. Everything I have connected so far works well:
- The Corsair Gaming K70 LUX RGB keyboard with any of its supported polling rates, including 1Hz
- The Logitech G900 gaming mouse (both the cable and the wireless receiver work, the latter also on the USB Pass-Through Port of the K70 mentioned above, connected to the hub)
- The Logitech MK270 wireless keyboard and mouse combo, without the connectivity issues I head when the receiver was plugged into the mainboard
- The HP PhotoSmart 7350 printer via an active 5m USB extension cable

I deducted one start because in dark light it can be hard to see whether a port is active or not because the LED lighting up the neighboring button bleeds through. Wish they were better isolated. Other than that, it works well, has a great price, and I didn't find an alternative with individual buttons: would buy again!

Description

.

With my ever growing group of devices, I once again found myself in need of a new USB hub. My needs were simple, I had no intention of connecting a hard drive or anything that would draw a significant amount of power, all I wanted to do was connect multiple input devices like keyboards, trackpads and gamepads. I came across this Sabrent model with individual on/off switches for each port and liked that idea.

This hub is inexpensive and has performed the function for which I needed it very well. As is often the case, you do get what you pay for so this hub doesn't feel very solidly constructed and the lights above the ports kind of bleed over into adjacent ones and I ran into one minor issue with it where for a time it failed to recognize the trackpad on a keyboard/trackpad combination device. It has worked flawlessly aside from that one hiccup.

One thing to bear in mind if you plan to use this to connect external storage is that it is a USB 2.0 hub, so you will not get the best transfer speeds out of USB 3.0 devices. Also, as this hub is not powered, you may need to run into some issues depending on the computer or whatever device to which this hub is connected. I use it primarily on an NVIDIA Shield Android TV and have not run into that issue. I have also briefly tested it on a couple of computers.

If you have a need to connect simple devices without a significant power draw and would like the ability to enable or disable them at the touch of a button, this unit will fit the bill nicely and is easy on the wallet. If you need a hub for storage devices or other devices that may need to draw more power from the host unit, you'll probably want to look into a powered hub instead.

Having used larger US hubs with my Raspberry Pi’s in the past (such as ones from Rosewill), this is a small USB 2.0 hub in comparison. The size is roughly that of a pack of stick gum, which is a good match for the RPi0. Sabrent offers the same exact design hub in both USB 2.0 and 3.0 flavors. As I’m just intending to use this with a RPi0, USB 2.0 will suffice as RPi’s only have onboard USB 2.0 anyway. The switches seem to work well and are a nice feature, especially if the ports are going to be used as a power source. The unit does have a 5V DC power input, if you want to power it. The input accepts male 3.5x1.35mm barrel (positive center) connectors. If powered, each of the four ports can provide up to 1A of power, so a 4A power supply would be a good match. Sabrent offers one, model PS5V4A, however it would be easy to draw power from many other sources. Construction of the device is fair enough. It is built of a hard “rubberis” material. Overall, it is a decent little hub. It should be Plug n’ Play with Windows/MacOS/Linux/etc.

i purchased this device for my Xbox One because with the stock hardware, its only possible to connect/charge one device at a time (cell phones, controllers, bluetooth devices, etc.). This device has made it possible for me to charge both my controllers simultaneously, have my bluetooth keyboard remain connected 24/7, and still have room to plug a phone or tablet in if I want to import/export data to and from the console.

All usb cords fit securely into the hub with no wiggle, play, or danger of them falling/slipping out.

I love that each USB port lights up blue when in use and that there's a power switch button for each port so you can easily turn the power off or on to each usb cord when not in use. This is great because you never have to disconnect the usb cords in order to ensure there's no power drainage!

Speaking of power, some USB devices require an external power source because the USB power output is insufficient to power the device. The makers of this device designed it so that you can plug a charger into the back of it and provide extra power to all 4 USB ports if necessary! But wait, it gets better! You can even use this as a power splitter to charge 4 devices SIMULTANEOUSLY with just one charger plugged into the back! Genius!

But wait, it gets even better! You can actually support up to 127 USB devices by piggy backing multiple USB hubs off of each other! I have no idea why anyone would need to do that, but if you do you can! Crazy!

Only real limitation is that none of the ports are 3.0 but if that's something your looking for, Sabrent does sell a model with that feature. I chose this one because I have no real use for USB 3.0 since it's mainly going to be used for charging my controllers and support the bluetooth keyboard.

Highly recommended!

I am a huge fan of the USB Hub. It works exactly as advertised, the price is exceptional, and the LSD function that tells you which ports are currently open is a God-send. I have had it for about one month, used it extensively, and been extremely impressed (especially at the low price -- the value you are getting is a significant one). Highly recommended, without any reservations!
Sabrent 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Individual Power Switches and LEDs (HB-UMLS)

First day using this and works fabulous. I will update this review if I notice anything in the future. Price is unbelievably low vs. quality for value. I had another component from Sabrent a few years ago and was very impressed with the quality for the very low price and this motivated me to buy their components again this time. This hub component is listed on the official Sabrent site at $13. plus shipping. Product arrived in a retail presentation package and the carton was secured with seals suggesting that it was probably not a used return. The only other feature to speak about are the on/off buttons. The 4 buttons can be used as 1 or all 4 or any combination of on/off 1 thru 4 and that is convenient. Only thing I can point out that does not show up easily in advertisement is that the hub is about the size of a large pack of 10 stick chewing gum and is lighter in weight than expected so, the lightness of the hub weight will not necessarily allow it to stay lying flat on desk or table without cords flipping it over while using. However, the plugs stay in securely and it will remain connected. One must be alert and observe that moving one of the wires does not cause this hub to turn over and, then, may press against one of the 4 buttons and turn off whatever one is charging. I combined this hub with the " Sabrent 22AWG USB 2.0 extension cord 6 feet (CB-2060) ". This is available from same Amazon seller as hub. Extension cord allows hub to be behind computer and moves the clutter and chaos of wires out of the way. NOTE: Both of these items are available in an identical " USB 3.0 " from Sabrent.
