Great little unit and even better customer service. I thought the solar feature was not charging because the indicator light does not come on. Contacted Kozo customer service. They immediately shipped another unit and sent my question to their engineering department. It turns out the solar DOES work, but, by design, there is no indicator light (CHA) when using solar. They said that feature was changed after the instructions were printed and the instructions are not correct (regarding the CHA light when on solar). I disconnected the battery and tested the solar output and it is true -- solar does charge, but there is no CHA light when it does. The CHA light does work when using other charging methods. They just need to clear that up in their instructions. Good company, trying hard to make everything right.
I had to read a lot of reviews for radios before I decided on this one. Many of the other ones have fake reviews and I took a chance on this one, but I got the real deal. I normally have horrible reception in my home but I still wanted a radio for my disaster kit. As soon as I put the batteries in, my favorite station came in really clear and loud, which is simply amazing in my home. Then I took out the batteries and set the radio outside for a couple hours to test the solar charge. I wasn't expecting much because it was a cloudy day. But once again, I was amazed to find that the radio got enough juice to run on solar power too. I feel confident putting this radio in my emergency kit. Also, the customer service by Kozo is excellent.
So far, after testing it when I received the radio it is great! I have it put away, ready for use If we get a hurricane and our electricity goes out. Right now, we are in hurricane season, so I will write another review when I use it for the emergency I know will come. The sound is very clear with absolutely no static. The customer service is also terrific, and is available to help with any problems. I highly recommend this radio.
Update: the emegency arrived and I had a problem with the radio. I immediately contacted the company , and the customer service is absolutely amazing! They immediately kept in contact with me and replaced it with the newer version of the radio.

We were prompted to get a rechargeable weather radio when an F1 tornado sporting 100mph winds, hail, and heavy rain skirted past us last week by about 100 yards and left thousands without power in our area. The TV weatherman was just telling people to take cover when the electricity failed, so we had no idea what was coming. Our own home was left without power for almost 19 hours, and it would have been great to know what was going on in the world or have a bit of music. We chose this radio as it is also powered by AAA batteries and can be charged in several ways. We charged it immediately via the sturdy crank (It really worked!! So happy!!) and tuned in a local FM and weather band station. Extending the antenna helps. The stations came in well, and the sound is really pretty good. Haven't tried to recharge a cell phone, but the flashlight is fairly bright. Seems well made and is small enough to put in a pocket if need be. Hope we don't need it for emergency use, but it was a good choice for us, and very reasonably priced. Look forward to using it while working in the garden, as well!

Very functional emergency radio. I bought it for my son and he loved it. It’s always good to have a backup radio that works on both solar and hand crank chargers. Was really pleased with this little radio. It is small...tho the picture looks like a boom box. It is the size of a traditional transistor and can easily fit into a backpack. I marked it down because the batteries...tho they fit...the little piece that covers them didn't go back on correctly so I took one star off. BUT HOLD ON..here was a surprise. When I initially opened up the box and took it out I saw the hand crank. I gave it two swirls and then moved on. So when I took the batteries, I had put in, out, & I fiddled with the little on-off knobs then VOILA...the music, as well as the news about weather all, came on. It doesn't really need the batteries as long as you can crank it. Beautiful. Just bought a second one to keep at my cabin and if my daughter who lives alone wants one I might buy for her. We live in California where there can be earthquakes and floods and just recently fires.... and all our phones could die if there isn't any electricity. I feel this a very good back up tool for information.
Just received, and did some function checks. Don't have the AAA batteries in it yet, but the internal rechargeable battery is charged somewhat. Radio functions work - AM, FM and WX. It has SW function too, but must be no one nearby transmitting. Flashlight, red flasher and siren work. I had to add an Android compatible micro-USB cable, as that supplied has a different small end. The texture of the case is good, providing a secure grip, unlike a slick smooth texture. Still need to test the hand-crank and solar function, but will let the internal battery go flat first. I anticipate no problems.
This unit replaces a different brand that failed. It'll go into my storm preps.
