AmazonBasics Xbox One Wired Controller - Black

AmazonBasics Xbox One Wired Controller - Black

So I have been rocking some nonsense my wife got me because she hates gaming and it shows when she buys me things. I needed a decent controller for some RPG's I play (not FPS games, I'm not a heathen) for my PC. This controller is fantastic for the price. It has a very nice weight to it and feels very well built. It has a very comfortable textured back and all the buttons have a press to them. The vibration is quite strong and the sticks are quite firm (ladies...). I would reccomend this product to anyone looking for a very solid wired controller.

Disclaimer: I do not own an Xbox One. I bought this controller for the purposes of PC gaming.

After using a PS4 controller for so long, I wanted to try a controller with the asymmetrical joysticks, aka the "Xbox" layout. I've been meaning to detach myself from Sony for a while, and it seems like all the other major controller/console manufacturers use the Xbox layout, so I figured might as well get used to it now. The reason I chose this particular controller is because it's officially licensed by Microsoft, it's affordable, and it's AmazonBasics, which I've had good experiences with in the past.

Compatibility
This controller is pure plug'n'play. Due to being an officially licensed controller, Amazon stuck very closely to Microsoft's specs and design when manufacturing this controller, so it's recognized as an Xbox One controller for all intents in purposes. Pretty much any modern PC game will detect it without any problems, since the Xbox controller is the de facto standard for PC game developers. It worked with every single PC game that I threw at it without any hitches. The only exception would be the extremely old PC games, from when the Xbox controller hasn't quite been adopted as the standard yet. But they can still work with a bit of fiddling with settings. It works great with Steam's big picture mode, and the home button is super handy, since it can call up the Steam big picture menu at any time during a game.

One area where I was pleasantly surprised with is the fact that this controller works with the Steam Link. More specifically, the Steam Link app that comes built into recent Samsung Smart TVs. The Steam Link app on Samsung TVs only supports a very narrow range of controllers, the Xbox One controller being one of them. They never specified that it had to be first-party Microsoft controllers, but I figured that third party controllers like this one wouldn't work anyway. However, it couldn't hurt to test it. But lo and behold, I tested it and it worked. I guess because Amazon followed Microsoft's spec so closely when making this controller, it gets recognized as a first-party controller, despite being made by Amazon. So that was a nice surprise.

Ergonomics, comfort, and general usability:
The ergonomics of the controller overall feel great. The grips feel nice for my larger-than-average hands, the buttons are clicky and responsive, the sticks feel great, and the triggers feel smooth. However, I have a very major gripe with his controller's ergonomics, and it's big enough for me to forego this controller in favor of other options, and that is the bumper buttons. The triggers are fine, it's the bumpers, RB and LB, that I have a bone to pick with. RB and LB are placed in such a way that when you hold the controller, your index fingers will naturally rest on the triggers, RT and LT. To hit the bumpers, your index finger will have to move up and stretch a bit in order to hit them, which requires a bit of finger gymnastics. On top of that, if you look at the pictures, you'll notice that the bumper buttons have a bit of a raised profile and are not completely flush with the triggers, which makes the initial problem even worse. On top of that, the bumpers have a bit more resistance to them than I expected, and they have this very loud click that they make when pressed, which made using them quite unpleasant. This is something that I did not experience on the Dualshock 4 controller, as the R1/L1 and R2/L2 buttons on that one are flush with each other and placed much closer together, making the transition easier for your finger from going bumper to trigger and vice versa. If this controller had the shoulder buttons of the Dualshock 4, it'd be the perfect controller in my opinion.

The cable is generously long, which should be enough for any PC gaming setup. If you have a USB extension cable, you can also use it in a home theater setup just fine, whether it's with Steam Link or an Xbox One.

It has a headphone jack, but since I use it on the PC, I always just either use my PC's speakers, or my dedicated headphones hooked up to the PC. Either that, or the TV's speakers when using Steam Link.

The build quality feels quite nice, a lot better than some of the lower-quality third party stuff.

All in all, this is a great cheaper and wired alternative to an official Xbox One controller, and it'll function exactly the same as one. The shoulder button design is really the only major gripe I have, but it's something you can get used to.

My wireless controller broke after almost 3 years of use two days ago and I was sick of charging ng batteries for it all the time so I decided to just buy a wired. Recieved this one earlier today and after about 5 ish hours of playing, trying to get use to the different overall shape/button placement compared to the wireless one its pretty nice. It take a little getting use to, the back and select buttons are closer to the home so I'd accidentally hit the home a few times but I feel like the more I play with it my hands will adjust. Big plus that I can retire my old rechargeable batteries now. Definitely reccomend if you go through a lot of controllers or if you're sick of batteries, takes some getting use to though.

I've logged my share of hours on Microsoft-made Xbox 360 controllers, and this Amazon equivalent feels and plays like the real thing. I can't judge its durability, because it's still fairly new, but it feels sturdy and well-built. The controls are responsive and don't feel loose or wiggly, and assuming it doesn't break unexpectedly, it's an exceptional value for the money.

I am mostly a keyboard and mouse player for PC, but some games (Assassin's Creed, Skyrim, racing games, other fairly casual single-player games) I just want to sit back and relax with a controller. I was using an Xbox 360 controller for the last ~4 years, and liked it. I replaced it with this one because the left stick was not working when I pressed it down. Since this is how you run or crouch in some games, it was very annoying when it didn't work!

This controller is infinitely more comfortable. The grip is simple but amazing. The little ridges really help with grip and feel nice. The buttons feel good and tactile. The only weird thing is that the right and left buttons (the ones by the trigger buttons) have a pretty loud click. This is a pretty minor concern, but is a bit weird considering all the other buttons are pretty quiet.

I really like the fact that it has a headphone/mic jack. I have a desktop that has different ports for audio in and out, but not a combined jack. So using my wired headset can be kind of a chore to plug in if I want to use my mic. But now I can just plug in to my Xbox controller when I need to take a quick meeting on Discord or something. It's great. I think it degrades the quality slightly but it's very convenient for me.

Description

An Amazon Brand.

I wanted to get a cheap, affordable and usable controller because I'm pretty low on cash, and this worked just fine. Everything works, and the first game on rainbow six siege on PC i dropped 9-0, although it was casual. Honestly, if you don't want to pay top dollar for a MICROSOFT official controller, this works just fine as a replacement.

I was absolutely amazed how it felt right out of the box, literally I had not even plugged it in to my computer and the texture of the controller was amazing. Now, I got discouraged almost teared up when I plugged the device into the computer and it was not responding properly. The solution was plugging the device into a usb 3.0 port after that no issues. I recommend this remote to anybody looking for a remote and a plus it's very affordable.

Purchased this Jan 21, 2018 it's now Dec 24, 2018. This remote still feels and works as if it were new.

This controller was surprisingly good for the price. Buttons are crisp and responsive, and ergonomically it feels quite similar to the official Xbox One controller. Controller response is good, obviously this thing isn't like...pro gamer level, but I doubt anyone who calls themselves a pro gamer would be using a controller anyway. Maybe for Rocket League or something...

I deducted 1 star because of the start and select buttons (or whatever they're called on the Xbox One). The buttons are difficult to read due to being embossed black, and they're positioned oddly so it's a bit difficult to hit them without first looking at the controller. Obviously you can get used to this eventually and it's not a huge deal (hence why it only cost 1 star), but it mars an otherwise solid experience.

Just used it for a day for a few hours, but seemed to work fine with no issues.
However, when I first plugged it in, nothing. To make a long story short, I had a USB hub plugged into my original Xbox One and I had to unplug that and plug the controller in directly. It worked. Then I plugged the USB hub back in and use it in the first spot and it seems to work fine. Odd but at least I got it working.
If I have any issues, I'll update at a later time.

I ordered this for my boyfriend because his wireless controller broke and needed something more affordable for the time. He seems to like it and told me he hasn’t had any problems with it except whenever he accidentally tugs his headset cable the joy sticks freeze up but otherwise his words are “it’s smooth.” And he is an every day gamer lol
