I live in the city and have a long commute to work (45 minutes to an hour each way, either by bike or public transport) and like to spend that time listening to stuff. Sometimes it's podcasts, and my iPhone is perfect for that, but often I prefer downloaded audiobooks or music and there's just no room on there for that stuff, not to mention the fact that a lot of my audio files are in FLAC or other formats that just aren't supported by many players. Enter the SanDisk Sport:

Overall, it's pretty awesome and the price is unbelievable. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because it does feel kind of cheap (albeit rightly so) and the display is just so ridiculously terrible to look at. All the text looks like it's in comic sans and the graphics look like something out of a late eighties video game. Also, I have had some of the previous versions of this device and my experience with them leads me to believe that there is going to come a point in the not-so-distant future in which this thing is just going to stop working entirely. Still, I think by the time this happens, I will have gotten much more than my money's worth. Highly recommended for anyone whose phone doesn't have enough storage or who wants a cheap player that supports FLAC
Original, I almost didn't order this. I thought the 1" screen would be far too small. I had a Sansa Fuze previously with a significantly larger screen; however, I was pleasantly surprised at the crispness and clarity of the screen for being so small.
The clip is great. It's strong and solid.
The buttons make it really simple and easy to navigate my music without needing to look down. I don't this this aspect can be underestimated. There's just no guessing.
Some people might find the SanDisk interface a bit problematic at first; with just about 20 minutes of use though, it becomes really intuitive and very simple.
One of my favorite features is the fast speed function for audiobooks. Often times the narrators speak so slowly that I become easy bored. Thankfully, I just kick up the speed and can really get into them for long drives.
The battery life is great. I recharge about once every two to three weeks, though I mainly use it in my car while driving.
One of my favorite features over other mp3 players is the microSD slot. You can create different "mixtapes." 8GB is good for a basic library, but sliding in a 16 GB card with a whole new library really spices it up.
Music syncs easily. And the volume is great. It starts off with a rather large sound, but it will about double that. There are warnings about damaging your ears with long term use at high volumes; I'm just happy to have the ability when I'm walking through the city and need a bit more oomph to drown out the traffic.
This was a replacement for a three year old iPod nano. The old iPod still works but using iTunes has become such a headache and is so user unfriendly we decided there has got to be a better option for listing to Audibles (audio books). This device is easy to use and works pretty well with Amazons audible manager on PC. The best part is this device has a micro SD card slot that can take a 32 gig chip so in theory you can store 40 gigs of books, music, or whatever on this device. A feature that apple has not been able to figure out how to add to their devices (probably an iOS compatibility issue). Has a clip on the back that will keep the device clipped to your collar or pocket. LCD screen is pretty decent too. Also comes with a cheap pair of earbuds. They make an excellent pair with the SanDisk clip sport, to really hear the great sound quality of music played by this device you will need comparable ear buds.
It is compact. The buttons are robust and the unit is solid. I use it mostly for airplane travel and time in the hotel. The quality of the sound with my Koss noise cancelling headphones is superb. I loaded it with a 32GB micro memory card and I have most of my music library loaded. I load it through Windows Media Player and the order of the songs match the album. Battery lasted for a plane trip from NY to Hong Kong. It is everything I wanted. I've also used it in the car with the Male/Male jack (purchased separately). The sound and clarity are as good as a quality CD.
This is the second unit I've owned. The last one was three years old and I lost it while traveling. I expect this one will serve me just as well. So far so good.
This is way better than an older model I had purchased through Amazon years ago; this upgraded model actually has a longer battery life, stores a lot of songs, and has a great sound quality. It's small enough to fit in your pocket or on the side of your purse or backpack. I've used it on my 3-hour train rides to and from (6 hours total) the medical appointments I have to go to, which helps me relax and enjoy the ride. It's also great for working out in the gym, going for walks, or waiting for the bus. It beats having to carry a smart phone (which I don't own), and it allows me to listen to my tunes while also enjoying the scenery outside.

I own an old Classic iPod and have also used the Sandisk Clips for a few years now. The sound difference is quite noticeable to me. The Clip has a fuller, even louder sound than the iPod, resulting in better overall sound quality. I use in-ear headphone buds for riding my bike or other outdoor activities, so the higher sound volume helps a lot. I recommend getting the small micro memory cards too, since you'll be able to store tons of music and never get bored of hearing the same songs over and over again. The player is fairly easy to use, and the battery lasts a long time, (charge lasts me a two to three days before needing a recharge for me), so I have nothing bad to say about it in those areas. One of the few complaints I have is with it is being able to organize songs into playlists or simply searching for a particular song. There are a few ways to do this but they seem a little more cumbersome compared to the ease that iPods or other MP3 Players demonstrate. I can definitely recommend this player as a good choice for on-the-go music lover who is looking for something extremely portable with lots of room for songs (or audio)!
I use this listening device mostly for audio-books. It does have a few quirks which have been noted in other reviews, but there are not many options these days for a lightweight listening device, probably because most people use their smartphones for this purpose. I prefer to use this device because of its light weight, which is good when exercising. I have been using Sandisk clip devices for quite a few years now, and they seem to last two or three years of heavy use, which is ok because they don't cost too much, but the clips that hold the device to your clothing always seem to break after about one year. This is irritating and it means that you have to keep it in a shirt pocket or come up with some other way to attach it to your clothing.
I purchased one of these for my dad who has a dumbphone. With an extra SD card installed, he has over 1,500 songs on his and is very happy he can carry his collection around in his pocket. I have not heard any complaints from him.
I will note that this player doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities so you will need to use wired headphones. Also, if you are a fan of the Rockbox custom firmware, it will not work on this player.
My mother was so intrigued by my dad's Clip Sport that she bought one as well. She is also very happy to be able to take her music with her.
The 32GB is great, I've never gotten close to running down the battery, decent sound, immediately recognized by my computers, and the clip is great. If it freezes, easy to reboot.
But from a runner's perspective the controls are pretty terrible. Nice thing about the old samsungs I used was you could change volume, songs, etc. without looking - even with gloves. This is something of a nightmare, tiny buttons and poorly located - especially the volume - forget gloves. Someone gets an F in human engineering.
All said, this is the best solution i've found if you want to carry your music library on the run.
I have an older clip that this one replaces. This one is infinitely easier to use, it pauses and resumes easily--nice for listening to books in the car. And has much better battery life. Nice for all day drives. And it holds a lot. And is AUDIBLE compatible. It would be great if Amazon would get their act together about which players work with Audible. This was my third try--older Ipods and other players don't work.
