JETech Case for Apple iPad 2 3 4 (Old Model) Smart Cover with Auto Sleep/Wake (Black)

JETech Case for Apple iPad 2 3 4 (Old Model) Smart Cover with Auto Sleep/Wake (Black)

I ordered this as a replacement for an iPad SmartCase for the 3rd and 4th gen. I was astounded by the cost for an Apple SmartCase for the old iPads. I went out on a limb with this one, but figured even if it is a pile of poo, it's only 12 bucks. Well, my iPad just snapped into place like it was designed to. All of the ports line up, the magnetic cover shuts off the screen as well as folding into a little stand, and looks decent. Only real gripe is the case only snaps onto the iPad by two small areas on the left side, while the right is one big snappy place, gripping around the edge of the glass/frame lip. But really, it's main function is as a stand and minimal protection while it is closed. So by those two criteria, it works great and is almost a direct clone of the Apple smart case for 60 bucks less. If this had an Apple logo on the back, it could almost pass as OEM (original equipment manufacturer). So, get an Apple SmartCase for 70 bucks, or get 5 of these. No brainer.

Perfect fit for the 4th generation iPad (2012). All the spaces for the buttons and such match with the iPad. The iPad back is surrounded by rubberized plastic. It does add a little weight, but when the cover is folded it is able to stand. There is a magnet on the cover that allows for sleep/wake function on the iPad.

I was pleasantly surprised to find an inexpensive substitute for my old Apple case that had split after using it for over 3 years. This case functions in the same way as the original, and provides a safe, soft surface to protect the glass from scratches. Is it as sturdy as the original Apple case? No. With this case, the corners of the ipad snap into place and are protected on the edges, but they are not surrounded with cushioning, like the "official" Apple case. Practically, though, it has performed just fine. The sleep function works, and I have had no problems with folding the top so it props the ipad while viewing from a table, desk, or lap. This case just protected my ipad in a nasty fall from a 3 foot height. It fell glass "face first" onto tile. A corner of the case broke off, and the back of the case came off, but the glass landed flat with the cover of the ipad still in place protecting it. The corner of the case took the hit, rather than the corner of my ipad. The glass did not shatter, and the edges of my ipad are intact, with one minor scratch. The broken case fit right back on, and I'm ordering the same case today to replace it.

Update: My son purchased the replacement iPad case for me through Amazon from the same seller. It arrived packaged in the same way. That item is 0 stars. The magnetic cover does not fit or flex properly, and it is does not turn the iPad on and off. In fact, it will keep the Ipad on when you want it to be off. It was difficult to snap on, and extremely difficult to remove in order to return it. Because the first one worked so well, I'm ordering a third one, figuring I have a 50/50 chance to get one that works properly. If you order, I wish you good luck getting one that works as advertised. When you get one that works, it is a good buy. When you get one that doesn't work, it is worthless.

I was a little nervous about getting this cover. I have an iPad 3. My first experience with a third party cover didn't go well, because the iPad 3 is thicker than other iPads and it didn't fit. So when I saw that this was supposed to be compatible with other iPads I thought it possible I'd have the same problem. Not in this case. It does indeed fit my iPad 3 fine. Just a bit of pressure applied to the corners and you hear a little snap, and you're all set. The cover's magnets also activate/deactivate the screen on my iPad as well. The overall feel of the materials is good. The cover is thin, maybe a 1/16 of an inch thick. Cutouts are all perfectly lined up. It doesn't add much weight at all to the iPad itself.

The top of the cover is divided into 4 sections, all of slightly different widths. This is where I think many covers differ in design. In my mind there are primarily two propping positions: one for working (typing on the virtual keyboard, etc. where the prop angle is low, maybe up to about 30 degrees) and one for viewing (watching a video, FaceTime, etc. where the prop angle is higher, maybe around 60 degrees). Different covers give you different angles. Figuring out how to use a cover to achieve these positions can be a puzzle sometimes. As far as I can tell, this cover allows for two different working positions and one viewing position. My one complaint about this cover is that the viewing position is too steep. It almost seems unsteady. The angle I get is about 75 degrees, which for me means I have to sort of slouch in my chair to make it usable in this position.

Aside from this, the overall value is very good. If you're working with an iPad 3 in an old case that is falling apart, this can make the whole experience feel newer.

Absolutely perfect fit and so slim, when I got this I actually thought they sent the wrong size as I bought it for my iPad 4 but then I put it on the tablet slipped right into place, it's a nice rich black, I love this case will definitely buy more
Update 19-06-2015 okay so I bought this case based on customer reviews, now I still love the case and it makes my iPad look so thin, but for some reason the sleep wake function isn't working, when I close it I peeked over the top because there is a slight slit as the front cover is just a tiny bit off center, barely noticeable, so I can see the light still on the tablet as you all know will go to sleep on it's own according to personal customization and then when I open it blank screen I have to press the home button the screen lights up and I put in my pass code so maybe it's just mine, I don't know, will still buy another one just wish I didn't have to manually put it in sleep mode before I close the cover every time.

I bought a second case in rose gold, again I'm pleased with purchase hopes this one last longer than the last one I bought a little over a year ago though.

Description

I purchased this to replace my original Apple Smart Cover and Speck Smart Shell case which is right around 4 years old. The cover started separating and the case was starting to crack. I was looking for a replacement of the same or something very close. I like the folding cover to prop it up while I watch movies. This product looked exactly like what I had except the two are one piece. I gave it 4 stars because while the sides are well protected, the top and bottom are not so much. What do I mean by that? The Speck case wrapped around the sides forming a lip. This case only has a lip on the sides and not the top and bottom. Also the cover part feels a bit cheaply made, not like the Apple Smart Cover (of course that one is made of leather, so it is hard to compare the two). On the bright side, the case itself feels sturdy.
So far so good, but I have not been using it for to long, so If something comes up, I will post an update.

-----UPDATE-----
So the other week I noticed that my iPad was coming out of the case when I had it propped up. Come to find out that part of the bottom corner pieces (when propped up) broke off. I email JETech and they asked for pictures. I emailed them pictures of the damaged corners and they wrote back to me saying that they are sending me a replacement. A few days later I get it in the mail and so far so good (it has been close to 2 weeks now). My 4 stars has not changed. The case is the exact same as the one I got from Amazon. I am not going to deduct any stars, because they stand behind product and replaced it, but if it happens again how long are they going to replace it?

I am reviewing this product after about 1 week of ownership -- So far, the product is great value for the price. But please note that the initial fit is better for iPad 2 than for iPad 3 (See below)

(1) I purchased 2 of these case-covers: One for an iPad 2, and another one for an iPad 3.

(2) It looks like there's a very small size difference between iPad 2 and iPad 3 (241.2mm x 185.7mm x 8.8mm, vs. 241mm x 186mm x 9.4mm).

(3) The case fit the iPad 2 perfectly, and installation was a breeze.

HOWEVER, with respect to the iPad 3, the size difference made the installing much more challenging -- iPad 3 (very) slightly wider and thicker, and it's hard to get the "lip" located along the 3 edges of the case to snap on to the iPad 3. Force-pushing the iPad 3 into the case didn't work, and could cause the "lip" to break or crack.

This is what worked for me:

(a) I opened and placed the case on a table (although any flat stable surface should do).

(b) I held the iPad 3 above the open case, and did gradually "slide-in" the iPad 3 into the case, from the lower/bottom end of the case, ensuring that the plastic "lips" located along the top-left, top, and right edges of the case "caught" the iPad 3 (You will see what I mean once you have the case in front of you).

(c) I was left with the lower-left "lip" of the case, which didn't quite fully wrap around the iPad 3 and engage it -- i.e., the lower-left "lip" refused to snap onto the lower-right had edge of the tablet. I was afraid that if I applied too much pressure, the case or one of the plastic lips that had properly engaged the tablet might crack.

(d) So I took a hair dryer and heated up the lower left quadrant of the case -- blowing hot air onto the case for 1-2 minutes or so. I made sure not to direct the hot air blast at the iPad 3 itself, and made sure not to overheat the tablet. Although it was very subtle, the hot air did make the plastic case shell slightly more malleable -- I pushed the lower-left quadrant of the iPad against the case, and the case (and the remaining plastic "lip") snapped in.

Again, this was only with the iPad 3 unit -- The case fit the iPad 2 without any issues.

Good luck!

My mom’s iPad cover had gotten loose over the years, and she was sad. She asked for help at the Apple store, and they told her replacements weren’t available. She was actually thinking of buying a new iPad just because she needed a new cover!
But her old iPad works just fine and is exactly what she needs. So I searched for a replacement, and found this cover.
Reasons why it is excellent:
1. The description was very clear about which models it fits, and where to find the model on your iPad. No guesswork!
2. It arrived quickly.
3. It fits perfectly!
4. The color is even nicer than her original. Mum says it looks “elegant.”
She did notice that it’s a little bit heavier than the original apple cover she had for years. But it also has a smaller profile, which she prefers, so overall she’s very pleased.
Happy mom, happy daughter!

He needed a replacement cover for his ancient i Pad 3. The original Apple model cover with magnet, was coming apart. Finding an accessory for tech that old is one thing but finding a good one is another. I found two and ordered both. The other was returned immediately. This one, from JE Tech, is wonderful. And that is coming from him! This case makes the i pad feel like a new machine. It has a four panel, rather than three, cover which makes it much easier to fold and use as a handle . Even the texture makes it nicer to use. And did I mention, it fits?! He is extremely happy with the cover and therefore so am I. Very satisfied with this purchase. May have to get another one for back-up!

I originally bought an Apple cover from the Apple store and it wore out. I went back to get a new one. I talked to one of their "experts". Oh we don't know what one will fit they are all different. You will have to bring the I Pad in and we will try to fine one to fit. So I went home and ordered ours. For the great price it was worth the chance. It came and as I was opening it I was prepared to be disappointed. I was more than happy. It looks nice, fits perfect. All the holes line up perfect and it is easier to get to the button on top to to turn it on and off and the opening at the bottom to plug it in to recharge it than the Apple one. And the cover for the on and off feature works beautiful. And I am happy to say if I tried I couldn't find one thing bad to say about it. So much for the Apple one for $60.00.
