Jade Leaf - Organic Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder - USDA Certified, Authentic Japanese Origin - Classic Culinary Grade (Smoothies, Lattes, Baking, Recipes) - Antioxidants, Energy [100g Value Size]

Jade Leaf - Organic Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder - USDA Certified, Authentic Japanese Origin - Classic Culinary Grade (Smoothies, Lattes, Baking, Recipes) - Antioxidants, Energy [100g Value Size]

I make a daily smoothie and put a tablespoon full of this powder in it. The first day I drank the smoothie, I recall thinking to myself later that afternoon, "Man, I just got a lot of stuff done. And boy, I was really able to engage and listen in that conversation. That was weird."

Day 2: "Man, I just got a lot of stuff done. This project suddenly makes sense and I'm not feeling overwhelmed. Boy, I was really able to engage and listen in that conversation. What have I done differently? OMG..it's that Matcha!!"

I bought a cheaper brand (Carrington) @ Walmart and had a smoothie over the weekend. I noticed no difference..back to being tired and unfocused.

This morning, I returned back to this brand of Matcha and I have been banging out work. Highly focused. Things are making sense. High levels of mental clarity. I'm in love.

THIS STUFF IS AMAZING!!

Absolutely LOVE this! I have been a coffee drinker for a long long time. Stopped feeling the caffeine kick in from coffee but loved the taste. I would even drink it at night and still sleep. It just wasn’t doing anything for me. Decided to try Matcha after reading about the health benefits. Gave coffe up and this is a great replacement! I have so much energy after just one serving. And it’s energy that is not jittery or makes your heart pound. Energy with no bottom out in the day. It is clear, focused energy that just keeps going. Plus the health benefits of Matcha are a huge plus. I wouldn’t recommend having it with a latte or sugary goods. While that might make it more Palatable any fine sugar will spike your blood sugar and you might not feel the matcha working because of that. And no chemical sugar either like Splenda....defeats the health purpose. I used hot water, a touch of honey and drank it down. Once a day is perfect. Will definitely be ordering again ❤️❤️❤️

I was disappointed at first as it's much smaller than expected, but looks can be deceiving. There's a decent amount of powder in the bag. I've attached a picture of it next to a watch so you can see what you're getting.

I really like the taste and quality though. I'm not an expert, so I can't tell you the difference between ceremonial grade or kitchen grade, but I do know this one tastes good as a latte. I mix a teaspoon of the powder with 1 tablespoon of hot water (not boiling water) to help it dissolve and then add 1 cup of hot milk. I use an electric baby formula mixer to get out any lumps (Munchkin has a decent one for about $7). You can also use an electric drink frother to mix it instead and it'll also get the milk nice and frothy. I believe it's also around $7 on Amazon. I chose to use the formula mixer since I already had one. And then I drizzle honey on top. It's delicious. I'm trying to cut back on coffee so this is a great alternative and it's healthy.

The packet is small, but it says it has 30 servings. 2 servings = 1 teaspoon so I can make about 15 matcha green tea lattes with this bag. That's a pretty good deal. The bag is also resealable, which is great. I keep it in the refrigerator after opening to keep it fresh. You can also transfer it to an air tight tin for max freshness.

I have finished a baking test on Jade Leaf Matcha products and also compare their Classic and the Premium grade matcha. This test is based on making Matcha Red Beam Mousse (no bake), Matcha Fresh Cream Swiss Roll (cake making), and Matcha Snow Cap Char Siu Bao (Roast Pork Bum - Bread making). As you can see, this seller's products comes out very green in the bread and pleasantly green in both the cake and the mousse. Comparing the Classic and the Premium grade, when first mixed with hot water, there is a distinct color difference as the Premium display a darker green (photo). However, after mixing with the batter or whip cream, the color different is minimal even you still can tell the slight different shade of greens.
I did not notice any difference in both aroma and taste between the Premium and the Classic matcha after cooking.
I did notice both grades of matcha do have unsolvable dark green tea particles after mixing with hot water and this is definitely for culinary usage and not for making matcha tea.

In my opinion, both Jade Leaf's Classic and Premium grade matcha do produce good green color in baking and in making mousse. However, as for home use I think the Classic would be sufficient and the commercial use may justify the higher price, especially for smoothie and other liquid products.
Note: All photos are shot with Samsung S7 without any post color alternation.

Recently I've come to love iced green tea lattes at Starbucks and Scooters, which both use matcha tea. With how yummy it tastes plus it being healthy because of all the antioxidants, it's totally my new favorite drink. I ordered this product so I could make some at home. When the package first got here I was a little surprised at how small of pouch it was for almost ten dollars, but after researching some recipes and realizing most matcha green tea lattes only use one half to one full teaspoon of matcha, I realized it was a good deal considering the pouch contains 15 teaspoons. So you're getting about 15 drinks instead of 2 for the price, since Starbucks and Scooter's are about $5 per drink.
I'll be honest, I hated the first latte I made with this stuff. However, after playing with the recipe a bit, I've found a delicious one that I absolutely LOVE!
Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte:
-1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
-4 oz. hot water
-8 oz. milk
-vanilla extract
-honey
-ice
1. Mix the green tea powder in the hot water. Stir.
2. Then mix in a drop of vanilla extract and honey to taste. Stir well.
3. Add milk and stir.
4. Add ice.
Ta-da! Delicious matcha iced latte!

I will definitly be buying this product again!

Side note: the package states that if you are interested in the traditional tea preparation of Matcha, "You'll want to use our Ceremonial grade instead. This Culinary Grade is better for blending and cooking."

Description

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What grade of Matcha is this, and how do I use it?

This is Culinary Grade Matcha, which is an affordable way to add a delicious, healthy boost to smoothies, lattes, baked goods, and other dishes.

What's the difference between Culinary and Ceremonial grades?

Simple: Culinary grade is meant for mixing into recipes as an ingredient, while Ceremonial grade is meant to be prepared traditionally as a tea (just mixed with hot water and whisked). Culinary grade is more affordable for day to day use, making it easy to fit the health benefits of Matcha into your diet.

Does it contain caffeine?

Yes, each half-teaspoon (1g) serving contains roughly 34mg of caffeine, about 1/3 a cup of coffee. However, Matcha also contains L-Theanine, which has a calming and leveling affect, so it doesn't make you feel jittery or wired like coffee does.

What are other health benefits?

- Boosts metabolism and helps burns calories
- Calms and relaxes you from stress or anxiety
- Rich in antioxidants (137x the amount in conventional green tea!)

Are there other use cases for Culinary Matcha?

Yes! Many of our customers make a healthy facial mask using our Culinary Grade, by mixing it with just a bit of water to form a paste.

Where does this Matcha come from?

Our Matcha is grown by Nagata Chaen, a single estate, organically focused family farm near the city of Uji in Kyoto, Japan.

What if I don't like it?

I was a little hesitant at first to buy this starter size pouch because of the price. I wanted good quality but kept asking myself, "What if I don't like it?" The company offers a 100% refund on their product so I went for it. Problem solved!

RANT: The biggest complaint I see from people on here is in regards to the amount you are getting for the price. They are not reviewing the quality of the item within the packaging or the flavor, etc. If you don't review the actual product and focus only on the quantity or packaging, the review is mostly worthless. As consumers, we get enough worthless reviews that are paid for, we don't need more worthless reviews because people only want to focus on the quantity and packaging and not review the quality. All are important in a review but the quality should be what is focused on.

Why is that that because it is a smaller size, people feel entitled to receive it for next to nothing? These are probably the same people that pay almost $2 for a 20 oz bottle of soda while the 2 liter bottle is only $1 and they don't bat an eyelash.

What they fail to understand is that making smaller sizes like this is not very cost effective for them to make. It probably costs them the same, or close to the same amount of money to purchase the bags they use for this size as it does for a larger size. These sampler sizes don't sell as well either. Unlike the bottle of soda that is "personalized" in size for the consumer to grab and go, this is a product that takes time and effort for the consumer to prepare. It is not meant to be a personalized size. If it were, people would have no problem paying for the convenience. Consumers are so spoiled and don't understand the costs associated with what it takes to import, pay the farmers a fair wage, the manpower and materials it takes to package the product, etc. I can guarantee you however, if a fair wage is not paid, someone is bound to call the 5:00 news! If you want sample sizes, fair wages, and the like, the consumer is going to have to pay for them or the company will go out of business really fast.

How many people have purchased an actual vanilla bean? Or saffron? Or truffles? No one seems to have a problem paying a high price for these items but complain about $10 for 30g of quality culinary matcha. Just like those items, a little matcha goes a long way.

It depends on how you plan to use it. If you are going to bake with it, buying a starter size is not cost effective for you.

If you are using it to make a tea latte, which is why I bought it, this is still gives you enough for 15 lattes that are 16 oz in size making them roughly $1.63 each (my recipe for this is below). Costs will vary depending on your ingredients of choice, and the area you live in. My numbers are based on $10 for 15 servings of this matcha and $0.08 per oz of organic vanilla almond milk in Austin, TX. Go to a coffee shop and you will pay at least $5 for a matcha latte of the same size, which is yet another thing buyers won't complain about. OK, RANT OVER...ON TO THE REVIEW!

REVIEW/COMPARISON: I used to hate the taste of Matcha but after years of taste bud readjustment, I decided to give it another try at Starbucks. They use Teavana brand for their lattes which is like Jade Leaf and does not use fillers and is organic. I try to avoid dairy so I used almond milk for my iced latte instead. Neither their tea or almond milk is sweetened so I added 3 pumps of vanilla to their venti size (they usually use 6 if you want it sweetened). Something about their almond milk leaves a bad aftertaste but before that hit, it was really good. Like most people, I can't afford $5 a day for one of these so I decided to buy the powder to make on my own at home (I was a barista in a former life so I often do this with my coffee concoctions too).

What I don't like about the Teavana brand is that it is much more expensive ($25 for 40g) and they claim it is ceremonial grade and yet, it looks and tastes exactly like Jade Leaf's culinary grade. In the brief research I did before buying, not a single self-proclaimed matcha aficionado EVER said to use ceremonial grade for a latte. They all very plainly stated that it was NOT for culinary use and that the taste is quite different. It is also higher in chlorophyll so it is a much brighter green color. That begs the question as to why Teavana, which looks and tastes the same as Jade Leaf is labeled ceremonial grade and being used for lattes when it is clearly the same culinary grade.

This morning, I made my first iced latte with this stuff from Jade Leaf. Using an organic, vanilla (sweetened) almond milk I found it was perfectly sweet and still had the very slight hint of the bitterness that comes from green tea. No weird almond milk aftertaste like the one from Starbucks. Needless to say, in the end, I will be buying this again in a larger size. It does say to store it in the fridge so that is where mine went when I was done with it. I plan to do a juice fast soon and a few recipes I have seen call for green tea for an extra metabolic and antioxidant boost. I plan to use this instead since it is so much more nutritionally dense than regular tea leaves.

RECIPE: They offer some recipe options on their Amazon listing and also on their website, but this was my super simple one that I threw together and was delicious.

Iced Matcha Vanilla Almond Latte:
4 oz (1/2 c) hot water (not boiling but barely steaming to help dissolve the matcha easily)
1 tsp Jade Leaf Organic Matcha
12 oz (1-1/2 c) cold vanilla flavored almond milk, or other milk of choice
Sweetener of choice, to taste (optional, I don't use any because my almond milk is already sweetened)
Ice cubes

NOTE: Sweetening options will have to be done at different steps depending on what you are using. If you are using liquid sugars like Torani or homemade simple syrups, those can go in at any time. Honey, agave, coconut nectar, sugar, and artificial sweeteners, should be blended in when you whisk the matcha into the hot water otherwise they will not dissolve properly and will settle at the bottom of the cup.

1. In a glass measuring cup, add 4 oz hot water.
2. Add 1 tsp of matcha powder and whisk together (see note for adding optional sweeteners)
3. Pour into a 16-20 oz cup over a few ice cubes to cool it.
4. Top off with the 12 oz vanilla almond milk (or other milk of choice) and stir to blend.
Add more ice if desired.

ENJOY Y'ALL!

I made matcha muffin with this powder. I didn't expect to get high quality product on Amazon. I'm from Japan and I approve this matcha. It smells good and taste good

Make your own green tea latte, just like starbucks, but without the added sugar.
A teaspoon of Matcha
Truvia to taste
Half a cup of hot water
two tablespoons of organic half and half
a teaspoon of Jordan's Skinny Vanilla Syrup
A dash of nutmeg
(MCT Oil for an extra boost)
Heat and Blend

Ignore the bad reviews! This is a great product if you understand what you're getting.

First, it's culinary grade matcha powder. That means that it's not the *finest* of matchas, but it's got a good flavor profile and does a phenomenal job when mixed into baked goods, lattes, etc. I've had this just mixed with water and it's fine, but definitely not near the ceremonial grade stuff.

Second, you get a huge amount for the price! Honestly, if you blow through this stuff, you're using way too much matcha in your recipes. I've paid the same for just a few ounces of similar quality at Whore Foods.

Third, this is not a sugary matcha latte mix— it's a raw ingredient. Matcha powder. It is just finely ground young green tea leaves. You mix this with other things (milk, sugar, etc.). Two of my favorite beverages:

Matcha Latte
- 3/4 C almond milk
- 1/2 tbsp matcha
- 2 tsp honey
- Boiling water
Boil water. Heat almond milk in a saucepan until it starts to simmer. Mix matcha with about 1/8 cup boiling water with a whisk until it's all mixed together and not clumpy. Stir in honey. Pour in hot almond milk. Enjoy.

Matcha Hot Chocolate
- same as above but add a few pieces of 70% dark chocolate to the almond milk until it's mixed in. Pour over prepared matcha.

I am re-ordering because I feel so much better I'm getting more things done, I'm 78 years old today and I can tell you this tea has improved my life and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to feel better and have more energy.
I do not drink it for the taste although it's not bad at all, and I do not take the time to heat up water and have hot tea I just put a half a teaspoon into my bottle of water and shake it up I do it at least twice a day.
I realize this is the culinary Blend and not the ceremonial But I have tried both and it doesn't taste much different, the good news is that the price is way less than the culinary blend and you get the same benefits!!! Such as six times the antioxidants as regular green tea.
