I first loaded the original software from CD but the latest wildly improved software should install if you are connected to the internet & using Windows7 or higher. Installs quickly without a hitch. You'll know you have the latest software when you create/modify a scan profile and it allows "delete blank pages" and "Straighten Content".
The Scan Button on the scanner will follow the "Everyday Scanning" profile. I found this by experimenting. However it will auto-name the file vs a user-supplied name available if you use the screen "SCAN" button on your custom Scan Profile Screen.
Scan speed is just as advertised and no problems with feeding unless "bump" scars remain after removing staples. "fingernail" them flat before scanning.
The basic software has all you need for business/school scanning. Paperport14 comes on a separate CD if you need exotic scanning choices.
I have a Fujitsu IX500 which scans at 35ppm vs this unit at 24ppm. The IX500 is about 410.00 and this is 270.00. If you scan more than about 50p/day, the IX500 is the way to go if you don't need Twain. HP 3000s3 if you need Twain and higher speed. PDF and JPEG is what I use it for. TIFF and BMP are also available formats.
The primary advantage to the Scan Profile used by this unit and the IX500 is that the 2000s1 allows the removal of additional pages that you may not want on a 2-sided scan. For instance, we have applications that we scan but the back side is just a page full of instructions for completing the application front page. We can delete those before saving. With the IX500 you must use the "Organizer" software to do this which takes a bit longer.
Over all I have no issues for the price. High volume folks should go for the HP 3000s3 (same great software) or the IX500 which also has WIFI and USB3.0
I've put about 600 pages through it so far. HP claims it can do 2000/day. The pages fairly fly through it, but then it takes longer per page for the scan to appear on my computer. This phase might go faster with a newer computer than my 2008 iMac, or maybe the speed is set by the scanner's software, which is by IRIS. Also, my experience with HP all-in-ones is that you get a basic version of IRIS w/the device; maybe buying upgraded software from IRIS would help. I can do something else while the pages run through and get saved to my computer, but the real limiting factor is that the feed tray only takes 25 pages at a time. It's a PITA to scan 300 pages in twelve 25-page batches. Each batch saves as a 25-page pdf file. If you want to combine all of them into one pdf, the free version of Adobe won't do it, as far as I've been able to tell. I have "pdfExpert", which is a lot less expensive than Adobe Acrobat Pro. It's better than Acrobat Pro in some ways, worse in others. I don't know of any free apps that will combine the 25-page batches into one pdf file, or let you edit and rearrange the pages in any pdf. ¶ This scanner was only about $200 bucks. I bought a three-year Square Trade warranty for it. HP's warranty is not great, and I've had enough trouble with my HP all-in-ones that the aftermarket warranties come in handy. The next better HP model was considerably spendier, but has a 50-page feed tray. I'd have considered it had I realized that the 25-page feeder limit is a time-consuming bottleneck.
I am a lawyer who semi-retired to a home office. I decided to go paperless as much as possible because I don't like to file and now have no one to do it for me. This device is perfect for me. It is fast and versatile. I really like its ability to scan double sided documents as easily as it scans single sided documents. The HP scanner program is excellent and its OCR performance is much better than others I have used. An alternate scanner program was provided with the software, but I haven't felt any reason to fool with it, given the excellence of the HP scanner program. It also came with PDF Plus software, which is a good substitute for editable Adobe.
Amazing product. Very easy to use with my MacBook Air. Only issue is that the USB cable wasn't included (and was supposed to be). I had one so it wasn't a problem. Software is good and it loads directly into Google Drive which was important for me. Highly recommended.
I use it regularly to scan in all household bills, statements, and other files throughout the year. Previously I had the HP N46010, and after many years it needed to be replaced. Usually I try to get a commercial size scanner, but I didn't want to spend $700 to get one this time. I'm pleasantly surprised that this scanner is just perfect for me to use. Wish I had upgraded a long time ago.

I am using this at the office and find that there are no jams. The papers I am scanning are far from perfect with prior staples and folds. Zero issues. It can even handle the employer copy of a tri part form, which is very thin. The software that is included is all I need to review and manipulate the scans as necessary. You won't need a full version of Adobe PDF as the one included is perfect.
This scanner is fantastic. The setup was incredibly easy, just pop in the disk and let the setup happen. This has to be one of the quickest scanners I have ever worked with. For comparison, in my office at work I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Premium All In One Printer/Fax/Scanner. The HP Scanjet Pro 2000 s1 can scan a twelve page double sided document faster than my office setup scans a single double sided sheet.
To say that I love this scanner is an understatement. After reading what seemed like thousands of reviews I'm glad that I chose this one. Do yourself a favor and make this your first choice.
The HP ScanJet Pro 2000s1 is a great scanner. I bought it for my home office to scan a lot of documents. I'm using an iMac 10.13.6. I use the scanner software that is builtin with the iMac, it works better than image capture and I can name and select the file type. It was well worth the money, fast and accurate.
We have software that requires a twain compliant scanner. Previously we used Fujitsu but once we found these were twain compliant we started buying these. They are not quite as fast but we scan less than before so the increased price of the fujitsu is not needed.
Purchased this in November 2017 to replace a Neat scanner.Simple to install and use. I am not tech savvy and this was easy for me. I use this several times a week. The quality of the scan is very good, nice and clear. Scanned document is clear and easy to attach to emails. Would highly recommend.
