USB Wifi Adapter AC600Mbps USBNOVEL Dual Band 2.4G / 5G Wireless Wifi Dongle Network Card for PC Laptop Desktop Win10/8/8.1/7/Vista/XP/2000, Mac OS X 10.6-10.13,No CD Needed,Upgraded

My home office is located in the basement directly below the placement of the router on the ground level. I noticed that my laptop (Dell Latitude) started dropping the wireless signal frequently (about every 30 - 90 minutes). The computer is about 5 years old. After doing some troubleshooting, I concluded the wireless adapter was likely beginning to fail. After researching options on Amazon, I settled on this wifi adapter. I received the adapter yesterday. I am running Windows 10 Pro. I inserted the wifi adapter into a free USB slot, and Windows 10 installed it perfectly. Since I installed the adapter, I have not lost a wifi signal and the wireless performance in noticeably faster on my machine. The four star rating has nothing to do with the performance of the wifi adapter. I gave it four stars because the instructions and CD disk are only valuable if you are running older versions of Windows (Win7, XP, Vista). This could be confusing to someone who is a novice at dealing with these kinds of issues and who is running Windows 10. If your current wireless adapter is not completely dead (which was my case), you must disable your current wireless adapter. To do this on Windows 10 go to Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Network Connections. Select your current wireless adapter (it should be showing some active bars) right click and chose "disable" from the context menu. Now select the new wireless adapter. On my installation it comes up as Realtek RTL8811 AU wireless LAN 802.11ac USB 2.0 Network Adapter (so don't be surprised if you do not see the brand name of the device - USBNOVEL). Right click on this device and chose enable from the context menu. Your new wireless adapter should show active bars and work perfectly. I am pleased with the performance of this device. I love the low profile. Also, it has a small flashing blue light on the device, which provides a visual confirmation that it is working. My only concern is that there are no installation instructions provided for Windows 10 users. I've tried to remedy that in this review. However, it is an oversight on the manufacture's part that could cause some people to have problems with the installation.

My newest PC, a $700 Dell tower (Win 10), only came with a 2.4G wifi card. An oversight on my part, I didn't care because I was originally going wired. But I switched rooms in my house and had to rely on wireless, and the speed was topping out at 48mbps, which sucks. So I gave this $18 USB thing (latest version) a shot.

1. I took it out of the box.
2. Disabled my stock WiFi adapter.
3. Installed the driver (do this first, even if you have Windows 10), then...
4. Plugged in the USB dongle.
5. Logged it into my router's 5G, and ZIP-BANG!!! 122mbps download speed.

Buy it if you need it. You have nothing to lose.

I like the flexibility it offers. I often switch between machines plug-in and unplugging this, and it’s worked seamlessly without any hitches or problems so far. This is my third Wi-Fi adapter. I ordered the first one to see if it would work on some of my older laptops that have flaky Wi-Fi. I upgraded them all to run windows 10. When I plugged The USB adapter into my USB slot it showed me being able to pick up Wi-Fi again. I didn’t use any of the drivers or anything on the CD that came with it, I just plugged it in, and it worked. So unless you don’t get Wi-Fi after plugging in, you could probably just toss the disk in the trash.
One more thing to consider. If you’re buying this as a Wi-Fi extender, that’s not what it is. The only thing this does, is gives devices that are unable to pick up Wi-Fi the ability to pick up Wi-Fi.

Apple, ever on the chance to charge purchasers more money, stopped adding a USB port to their MacBookPro laptop. I needed to transfer files from my old PC onto the new laptop, using a flash drive. My tech-savvy friend told me to get this product, and it was easy to use. One end of the dongle fits into the "slot" (I don't even know what it is called) at the side of the laptop, and the other end accepts the flash drive (again, I'm not sure of the other names for this item, which allows one to copy files onto it). Once everything is inserted properly, the directions that came up on my laptop screen allowed me to download my files easily. Note: Always remember to eject the flash drive safely - the computer usually tells you to do this.
It is just a sad reflection on how greedy Apple are that they stopped incorporating USB ports and CD drives into their very expensive MacBook Pro laptops.
I must say I love the name, "dongle" - that's exactly what it looks like !

When I bought my custom-made gaming PC, I knew that internal networking cards could be problematic...but given that one of the free upgrade offers available on said PC *was* an internal networking card, I couldn't really say no. Well, flash forward a bit and I absolutely loved the graphics and processing power of the PC, but it didn't exactly lend itself to a stellar gaming experience given that I was (at best) pulling in 1.5 bars from my router and the signal was constantly dropping. Yes, I could have moved the PC down to the basement, where the router sits, but I liked having it in my bedroom. Moving the router wasn't really an option as the house pre-dated cable television, let alone internet, and the only way to hook a router up in the upstairs level would've involved wiring everything myself. Experience has taught me that when I try to mess around with electricity, things burn.

Enter this small, inexpensive Wifi adapter. It truly was plug & play with Windows 10, and the difference was immediate: the full 5 bars on my 5G connection. In the weeks since, internet speeds have been just as fast as ever with the added bonus of actually being able to stay connected--not a single dropped signal since this wonderful little piece of plastic was plugged in. To give you a better idea of the logistics, the actual distance between router and adapter is only about 20 feet...but it's 20 feet straight up, through two levels of an older townhouse, with numerous other devices cluttering up the electromagnetic spectrum in between. Not only that, but if I ever decide to quit paying for internet I've discovered that one of my neighbors has no password protection on his ironically-named "Hidden Network". Just kidding....or am I?

Seriously, though: I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to firm up a weak Wifi signal on a relatively fixed device, or even for use with a notebook or laptop when traveling through areas where finding a strong, steady signal can be problematic.

I have a Windows 10 machine I have started to use. I have had it a while. I have other computer and some are not connected to the internet. I wanted something I could use with each of the machines to go online with them as I choose. I bought the USBNOVEL adapter and installed into the Windows 10 desktop. Everything went well. next, I had a windows 8.1 machine that is never connected to the Internet and I installed the UBNOVEL adapter software and an absolutely seamless process. The only negative, that isn't really a negative, is it has a very bright tiny, tiny dark blue LED that looks like a laser and it pulses for milliseconds constantly. You could just see it and look at it, as it has a very pretty light. All in all.I will buy another one very soon. It is a good product.

I was so excited by the results of getting my laptop on our 5G WiFi that I ordered a second adapter for my wife's laptop as well. But the added demand on WiFi bandwidth seemed to come at a cost: when both of us are active on the Web (which is every evening) we can see a speed penalty in response.

Don't get me wrong! We'll continue using these adapters. They work as described and are an inexpensive path to an upgrade. Also reduces demand on the 2G side.

Oh, by the way, WIN 10 is a totally plug-&-play deal. I did not have to download or use the enclosed mini-DVD for drivers.

I ordered this USB WiFi adapter over the holidays and these guys bombarded me with emails to write a review. Hey!!! its the holidays, let me eat my turkey!! It was pretty straight forward, installing and setting up. The wireless USB Driver came on a tiny cdrom. I have not seen a cdrom in years. I needed this WiFi adapter for my old Mac G5, so thankfully the cd/dvd drive is inside this CPU, I forgot how to open it, but remembered. Once the driver was installed went thru the steps and found my WiFi and logged in. It came with a manual that was printed on paper just as tiny as the CD was. Listen, I have reading glasses, but this print and instructions is just to small to read. I found the instructions online somewhere and printed it, but it was the same tiny type font. Maybe they provide that somewhere on their site. I dont know, it was easy to install, and easy for me to set up. So I would definitely recommend this. I have so many old docs and music on that computer and now I can be on the internet when I pull it out to use. So glad I bought this. One more thing, it was really fast, got all the bars.

Bought this for a Ubuntu linux desktop. I had to git clone the driver directory, and manually compile and install the driver, but it works perfectly once installed. Shout out to Keith W Walker for the instructions!
To install this adapter on Ubuntu 17.04 or 17.10:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git
search for, download, and extract the rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux.git file
cd ~/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe 8812au

Usually with cheap stuff, that's all you get, but I'm quite surprised on this little wifi adapter.
I tried fixing my networking issues by getting a wifi repeater and thinking that was going to fix my issue, I was wrong to get the repeater, so I figured I'd try this.
To my surprise, the adapter with the antenna helped solve this issue. Not only did I get a signal, I was finally able to use my AC router to work with this USB dongle.
It's plug and play for my computer (which is in my garage as a home server and helps with maintaining my security cameras.) running windows 10.
