Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Wireless Surround Sound Gaming Headset for Xbox One

Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Wireless Surround Sound Gaming Headset for Xbox One

Last night they worked great. Tonight it was cutting out several times per minute. I'm hoping there is a firmware update coming to fix this.

!!!UPDATE!!! - 9-8-17
After an email exchange with Turtle Beach's customer service I learned that there is a firmware update for the headset. I was able to update this morning and it seems to be working much better, but I will provide an additional update in a few day to let everyone know if this seems like a long-term fix. Even after the update it cut out occasionally, but was much more stable. If you live in a very noisy WiFi location, these may not be for you. They are very susceptible to radio interference.

!!!UPDATE!!! - 9-10-17
I used the headset some more over the weekend and found a few things of note. On a fresh charge, it works great. After a few hours, performance starts to degrade. My couch is about 10 feet from my Xbox and TV. If I sit in line of sight of the Xbox, without the coffee table in between, it stays connected for the most part with a few dips in connectivity due to interference. If I sit with the coffee table in between, it dips more frequently. If I sit closer to the Xbox, say about 6 feet away, it stays rock solid stable 99.999% of the time. Perhaps it is time for a gaming bean bag so I can sit closer.

All issues aside, when they are working the sound performance these offer is incredible. This would be 5 star if there were no issues. This would be 1 star if the sound wasn't as good as it is. I'm hoping a few additional tweaks to the firmware make these even better over the next few months. Until then, I am going to try to be patient. I will post again after the next firmware update.

!!!UPDATE!!! - 9-14-17 - firmware 2.1.3

For the last few days I have been connecting my headset to my laptop to see if the Turtle Beach Hub application has a new firmware. Tonight, I was rewarded for my diligence. For some reason you have to pair your headset with your Xbox each time the firmware is updated. Anyway, already the performance is better. I haven't had a single interruption in the audio in the first 20 minutes of watching Netflix. If you followed up to this point you will also like to know I sat as far back on my couch as I could to see if the audio stayed stable. So far, so good. I'll report back in a few days.

!!!UPDATE!!! - 9-23-17

So, it has been just over a week since the firmware update to version 2.1.3. This week was much more enjoyable with a much more stable connection. Battery power still has a bearing on how stable the connection is, but I have gone 8+ hours without any problems. On the other side of the coin, being wireless, they are subject to interference in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrum so this can result in random connectivity issues even under ideal situations. They will never work 100% of the time, but they are comfortably working at 99% of the time for me now. Also, the sound seems richer than any of my previous headphones due to the Windows Sonic Surround Sound. A tap of the power button turns on Super Human Hearing, and a tap of the function button toggles between 4 different EQ modes. A native Xbox One app to control the finer details would not go amiss. But I expect that we will see one shortly if Turtle Beach continues down this road.

RESULT: I can now safely recommend these with the minor caveat that a little but of patience will serve you well. The sound quality alone is worth it.

I wanted to add a review of this product because the reviews seemed so mixed. I purchased these on 1/15/18 and am reviewing on 1/22/18. As soon as I received these cans I hooked them to my Mac and updated the firmware and allowed them to fully charge (green light). I then hooked them to my Xbox One X as I would an Xbox controller. Since that time I have not had one single issue with them. No disconnects, no low sound, no dead time, no cutting out, no popping....just a great experience. Are they $150 bucks?? No. I have never owned a set of headphones that pricy so I can’t compare. Compared to my Polk Audio Striker Contract Editions they sound as good or better and no wires! The mic monitoring is great, and works better then the above mentioned pair. The fact these don’t have noise cancellation is evident, especially when the wife fires up the mixer in the background while gaming....but they were $80 bucks. And Turtle Beach said the 600’s don’t have this feature so I was not expecting it.

The complaints about distance and disconnects...never seen it. Multiple rooms, literally all over my house never had a disconnect. Regularly sit 15 feet from the Xbox.

I can hear people (in game) around me while gaming as good or better then before. The audio controls on the back of the cans do hit my couch if I slouch....but it’s nothing a piece of tape won’t fix if I’m having a bad posture day. I purchased these on an open box item from Amazon. They arrived with no box damage and the silica pack still inside (along with everything else. I have used them daily for the last week and only charged once...not because they needed it, but because I wanted them to last for my next session with no issues. I could not be happier with this purchase!

I wanted to leave a review about these because they are all so mixed and do not really give you a good idea of the performance of the accessory. A little background... I'm an old school gamer that just upgraded to the present day. My last purchased system was a PS3 2nd iteration and I hated it because the PSN sucked. That experience really turned me off of Online Gaming and honestly video games in general. I've been an owner of many great systems including: Atari, NES, SNES, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3. I had never really played Xbox with anyone for longer than one sitting and when I did I couldn't adapt to the controller. Fast forward to present day and I now own an Xbox One S. Let me tell you why I wanted that version and not the Xbox One X. I bought the PS3 right when it was released and after they "fixed" the overheating issues. This model had less hookups than the original release version, but was mostly the same. That system was nothing but problems. So why not get a PS4 or PS4 Pro. Honestly, I love the new games and the classics. The versatility of the Xbox One S drew me because you can not only play older version games, but can also use all Xbox accessories. I just bought a low end 4k UHD TV and I've really been able to appreciate the better graphics. I also have a surround sound so it was quite an upgrade. When I was looking for new headphones I wanted something that fit well, sounded great, and performed. These headphones do all of that. Xbox Wireless Technology worked perfect. Easy setup. I upgraded the Firmware first before I ever hooked it up. Pairing was a snap. I recommend paying the extra for Dolby Atmos because it sounds great. I watched the review saying that the sound was too low and I disagree, it's perfect. There are 4 presets which all sound good for different needs. The Superhuman Hearing is more treble and mid range for sure (I know this because I'm a guitarist as well), but has less bass response. I prefer the 2nd mode for general gaming, but would probably use the Superhuman Hearing for FPS games. They stay connected and charged for a long time. My system has the modem about 15 feet away from the system with a wireless connection. I've read that many people had connectivity issues if the modem was too close. They are very versatile and I think they fit my head fine. The fold flat feature is nice too. I was looking for a nice headphone at an affordable price and I think these were just what I wanted. They are basically the better version of the Turtle Beach XO Four wired headphones. Wound definitely recommend these. Just a final note, you do need to reduce the volume of the TV or Surround system to game silently and only hear it in the headphones. I did not know this when I first used them so I thought I'd put it out there if this is your first time using them like it was for me. I hope you can find this review helpful in making a decision.

I'm very particular about sound, I guess approaching audiophile levels. I wanted a fully wireless Xbox One headphone, and I first tried Plantronics Rig 700... horrible crackling on many musical tracks with any kind of complexity, the replacement had the same issues. They also suffered from a random whistle noise when in the Xbox menus. Next I tried the Razer Thresher headphones. The fake leather was unpleasant, the bass was a little too boomy, and worse, the left earpiece that housed the electronics produced a constant whining noise.
Now given the low price and reviews, I was hesitant to even try the Stealth 600. But let me tell you, I am incredibly impressed. I updated the firmware right way to the latest, easily from a PC. Effortlessly connect the headphones, and was immediately impressed. First of all, dead silent when there is a silence... no weird background noises! No crackling in the music. No overdone bass. A decent fabric, no sweaty pleather (though the Plantronics had even nicer fabric). But what impressed me the most was the soundstage and clarity. For music and Dolby Atmos for Headphones effects, these completely blew the Plantronics and Razer headphones out of the water. No contest. And they were by far the cheaper option of the 3?! Turtle Beach has a clear winner here. Just be sure to update that FW!

I see from the reviews that a lot of people are having disconnect issues. I have a feeling a number of those people have not updated their headset on the computer.

I have only had this unit for a few days but have used it extensively with zero issues. The first thing I did after opening the box was plug it into my computer and install the update. I have yet to have it disconnect even once.

The sound is excellent and headset is comfortable. It works perfectly for party chat and I am quite happy with it so far. If I run into any problems I will update this review accordingly.

I love these headphones and I'm super picky. I've only had them for a few days, so I'll repost in a month or two to update, but here are my thoughts so far. First, connecting to my xbox one was like "that's it? they're connected?" yup. Just sync like you would a controller. Sound quality is amazing. make sure you take the time to go into your settings and change the sound to the recommended setting. I can't remember what its called, but after I set it up, I spent a few minutes, just walking around in my game and enjoying the ambient sound. The headband has some kind of soft memory foam, that is very comfortable but they're not hot. The hard mic and flip to mute mechanic are great. And easy charging with standard usb cable. Not bulky docs, no extra boxes to deal with. Overall, no complaints.

For the most part, these are great. Minus a couple little things, it was a great purchase especially on Cyber Monday.

Pros:
- Excellent bass
- Comfortable, even with glasses
- I can hear a mosquito sneeze from clear across the map in COD with these (in all seriousness, you hear EVERYTHING)
- The regular Xbox audio comes through as well, so these work great if you want to watch Netflix or something without disturbing others
- Great battery life

Cons:
- Don't turn these to the max
- Seriously, if there are multiple explosions happening in-game nearby, you'll hear some clipping and/or go deaf
- I can't stress #1 enough, you won't need to turn them all the way up
- These can come disconnected from the Xbox at times - it'll reconnect after a few seconds

I’ve owned Turtle Beach headsets for years. My previous TB headset snapped after years of use, so it was time for an upgrade. I purchased the Stealth 600 for my Xbox One X. This headset is fantastic. It’s definitely the nicest Turtle Beach headset I’ve ever owned. I’m honestly surprised at some of these negative reviews. My experience with the Stealth 600 has been largely positive. Here are some pros/cons.

I’ll start with cons:
- They advertise this headset as having new comfort technology. While it is comfortable, after about an hour or so of useage, they start to hurt your ears. However, this could just be the headset not “broken in” yet. The speaker cups are cloth and not leather. In my experience, leather cups are more comfortable, and are also better at outside noise-cancellation.
- That leads me to my second con, which is that this headset isn’t noise-canceling. It does a decent job at muffling sounds outside your headset, but some noises are easily heard.
- The volume knobs are in an odd place, and while adjusting the headset on my head, I found myself accidentally moving them.

Pros:
- The sound in this headset is amazing. It boasts Windows Sonic Surround Sound that’s compatible with the Xbox One and it’s instantly noticeable. The sound quality is on point. It also has 4 sound presets that are great, but in my opinion, the standard sound preset is the best.
- The drop-down mic is a great addition. I love that it mutes itself when raising it up out of the way.
- Completely wireless! This is amazing. It syncs with your Xbox flawlessly. No more cords running to your controller or console. This is great!
- The battery is great on this thing. I haven’t timed it, but I went a whole evening of gaming/movies with no connection issues or battery issues.
- It’s pretty lightweight which is nice. It doesn’t weigh your head down.

All in all, this is the best Turtle Beach headset I have owned. You won’t be disappointed!

First let me just say that I have owned several Turtle Beach headsets! I have tried others, but they are always so complicated and frustrating, if not impossible to get set up, and get going! Turtle Beach headsets always come with an easy set up and instructions that are complete, and simple.
I have always been a happy and satisfied Turtle Beach customer. I always enjoy trying out the latest headset, and so I decided to give these a try and I wasn't disappointed! I opted for the Stealth 600, instead of the Stealth 700, because all I wanted was a straight forward headset for gaming, and nothing else.
My Turtle Beach Stealth 600, arrived the day after I ordered it, so I have to tip my hat to Amazon...they rock!!!
The package was so light weight, so I didn't think it was the headset, but it was! I am very pleased with how light it is!
I had it up and running, in no time! But this is why I'm giving this product 5 stars.....it's picking up sound from the game that I wasn't hearing without them! This may not be an attraction for some, but I love it! I'm hearing small sounds that I would not be hearing otherwise, and this is helping my game experience quite a bit!
The only draw back is that although this headset is not uncomfortable to the point where they are distraction, I am aware of the way they feel. I have a bigger than average head, and it would be nice if at some point in the future the design was a little more adjustable to accommodate heads of different sizes! That is my only gripe and it's not enough to override my pleasure in using the Stealth 600! I'm very glad that I purchased it!

Had it for weeks now and use it almost every other day. After I did the update via my laptop, they work fine.
I have two issues

1. It is difficult to hear yourself. I find myself talking loudly because I sound low in the ear cups. So i've been told by my wife that I am not using my inside voice and lol during gameplay.

2. The BGM gets warped. I do not how to explain it but I will try. I can play Monster Hunter World but the music will begin to slow down. You ever hear a TV show have music dying so it begins to slow down? That's what happens while playing any game. I've tried it with MHW, Gears of War 4, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. If I play Insider, the audio is fine. It doesn't have BGM and sounds fine.

I keep it on 3rd setting (or beep) and depending on the game, I'll put on Super Human Sound. They are comfortable. I can feel heat inside the cups after 2 hours but it's not stressing me. Charges fast and last about 12 hours. I just wish I could hear myself and it didn't warp music.

Buy it, do the update, and enjoy. I also brought Dolby Atmos on sale. Only a hand full of media (games and movies) ustilize this feature. If it's not on sale just use Microsoft Sonic for surround sound.
