Kodiak Cakes Protein Pancake Power Cakes, Flapjack and Waffle Baking Mix, Buttermilk, 20 Ounce (Pack of 6)

Kodiak Cakes Protein Pancake Power Cakes, Flapjack and Waffle Baking Mix, Buttermilk, 20 Ounce (Pack of 6)

With a few minor tweaks to the package directions, we had some of the fluffiest 1/2-inch thick pancakes we've eaten in quite a while. When I followed the package directions exactly, the mix came out too thin--at least for our taste. The directions list a 1:1 ratio of water to mix (1 cup of each), but the batter was a tad runny when prepared that way.

Here are the tweaks I made… I used milk instead of water & added an egg because we wanted the extra protein (these options are provided on the label, too, by the way). First I poured 1 cup of milk in a mixing bowl, added 1 egg, then hand-whipped for a minute to make sure they were thoroughly combined. Next, I measured in 1 cup of mix and very gently combined it, being careful not to overmix or agitate the starch too much, as that can make pancakes come out tough and rubbery. After gently combining, the mixture was too watery, so I gently folded in some extra mix from the box, a tablespoon or two at a time until it was a thicker but still pourable consistency. If I had to guess, I'd say I added about five or six extra tablespoons of mix, but it's hard to say exactly because I always eyeball it. (Been making pancakes this way for years, so I guess I have a feel for it developed over time.) I made sure the griddle was nice and hot on medium high heat before pouring. (Griddle's ready when you splash on a few drops of water and they dance and evaporate right away.) I melted a pat of butter for each cake, poured on the batter, let it sit undisturbed until bubbles form and the edges look golden, then flipped and let them cook for another 30 seconds or so. The pancakes turned out great--nice and fluffy (see photos), very tasty, and we will definitely buy more of this mix.

(Note: It may be worth mentioning for the more experienced bakers out there, I live at about 4500 feet above sea level, so I'm not sure if that would be considered high altitude in the case of this mix or if it would alter the outcome of my preparation methods at a different altitude.)

!/2 cup of mix, with egg and milk, totally fills me up for the morning. I have these several times/week - any morning I have sufficient time to fix pancakes. The mix was recommended to me by someone at my fitness club, working on a high protein / low carb diet.

I purchased the buttermilk flapjack mix six pack. I love these pancakes and I've tried a lot of different protein style mixes. I was skeptical at first since I don't like the taste of anything whole wheat. You can't tell these are whole wheat pancakes taste or look wise, these cakes also don't burn easy and are very dense and fluffy when cooked. Lastly but most importantly this mix will not don't spike your blood sugar! When I eat regular pancakes or any other protein mix blend I'm always hungry shortly after. This mix keeps me pretty full for about five hours after I eat breakfast and that's with only one serving of 53 grams of batter as noted on the nutrition label. Great buy I'm happy I found these online. These are very yummy, have clean ingredients, the box purchase is cheaper on Amazon and I recommend you purchasing them!

Really great product - I tried the crunchy peanut butter ones, and I like these so much I will likely try other varieties.

The mix dissolved very easily in water and just required stirring for a few seconds to form a nice, thick, pourable consistency. They cooked quickly in a medium/hot canola oil, and there was no sticking at all in a metal saucepan.

There was no "crunchiness" to the texture that I could ascertain, and the peanut butter taste was light but still definitively peanut butter-like. Not too sweet. Fat content is low and sodium level is reasonable; these are a nice low-fat option if you avoid using too much oil in the pan. These really leave you feeling satisfyingly full due to the high protein content. The pancakes were substantial without being overly heavy.

Will definitely buy these again, once I get through my case.

I normally don’t like the Kodiak Cakes because they’re bland and too wheaty tasting, but these are awesome. They’re easy to make and very tasty, even my picky kids love them. They are higher in protein than regular Eggo waffles and much healthier. They don’t require eggs which is also a bonus

My brother has been eating these for quite some time and I asked him for the name of what they were so I could give them a try and I was not sorry in the least! They're so easy to make the first time I use them I made blueberry pancakes and they were scrumptious and I'm so relieved that they taste so good since they're so good for me. Thank you very much for a wonderful product that's easy to use and is so healthy!

We really like the Power Cakes - high protein and really not a bad flavor either! We've used the buttermilk base and have tried multiple things.
We've used frozen blueberries (do not recommend because of water content) but the fresh blueberry power cakes came out great~
We've substituted pumpkin, bananas, chunky applesauce, etc. to make different flavors.

The cakes, themselves, will come out differently and it's trial and error on the amount of pumpkin vs bananas vs applesauce, etc. Some are thinner than others so I found I need to use less. The pumpkin came out with a nice taste but they're dense.

All in all - these are great source of protein and can kick a craving to boot.

We love this protein-added pancake mix. I especially like that it comes in several smaller boxes, instead of one huge one. We add fresh blueberries to the batter, and that adds extra flavor and goodness, too. We've also added chopped walnuts, flax seeds and other nutrients, topped them with fresh strawberries and bananas. Then they don't even need maple syrup, because the sweetness comes form the fruits. Highly recommended!

We've tried most of the Kodiak Cake flavors, and I think these are the best. I use one cup mix, one egg, and one cup 2% milk and a cast iron skillet to make a top-notch pancake.

Normally any sort of "protein packed" waffle/pancake mix have an artificial taste that makes it unappetizing. These Kodiak cakes have no such thing and the flavor is delicious. I have only used the mix for pancakes but I can't imagine the taste/quality being any less for waffle use. Aside from the taste, the macros are great.
