We just returned from a trip through Canada and the Rockies and it worked wonderfully. The most important thing to know about buying a GPS is to update them right out of the box. All GPS units are ALWAYS back level when you purchase them new or “certified”. Many of the other less reviews I have read are due to needing updates. The updates are not just for the maps. They are for GPS Operating Systems and are critical. This particular one have about 9 GPS Software Updates and a huge Map Update. It doesn’t matter the brand name or how much you spend the updates are the keys to success. Hope this is useful.
I have had to go to Canada for a few appointments and this GPS saves me so much worry. You don't need to pay for extra data to pull up directions on your phone; this GPS covers you. I had an older Garmin GPS before buying this model. Please be aware that the older versions ask you if you want to turn off the tolls in an options menu of what to avoid. This model will PROMPT you after you put in the address. It will say "this road has tolls, do you want to continue or find an alternative route" or something similar. The feature IS THERE.
I usually use my phone for directions, but lately it seems that using the phone's GPS system significantly drains the battery AND my data allowance. Finally decided to buy another Garmin (had one years ago) as I figured it would pay for itself and be a better deal than increasing my data allowance. The Garmin will pay for itself in just a few short months. This one is easy to use and does a great job. I am very happy with my purchase.
My parents were replacing their old Garmin because of outdated maps and needing something that would tell them which lane to be in prior to needing to make the next turn. I gave them 5/5 stars for ease of use because I was able to walk them through setup over the phone, and they are in their late 70s and early 80s and don't know what a taskbar or window is on a computer. The battery life is so/so, according to them. I can't give a true rating due to not using it myself. I'd just recommend keeping a way to charge it with you. It didn't come with a manual, which was a bit frustrating. The website is little harder for some generations to navigate to find tech support.
I bought this a long time ago and now doing the rating since I have had it for a long time. I have no complaints whatsoever. It gets me where I need to go, tells me if a traffic light camera is coming up, etc. warns me about speed zone changes, railroad crossings and so on. I’m totally happy with it and have driven all over the southeast with it. Once in a while it will send you in a weird way to get where you want to go but every GPS I ever owned has done the same thing. Not sure that is a Garmin issue.

Works well, easy to find businesses by name so I do not have to consult the web to locate a store. Only complaint is when searching the Saved Locations: they are listed by the distance from your current location. Every human I know searches by the name of the place and there is no way to list them alphabetically.
Right now only a 4 STAR rating.....but let's see how it performs in the coming months.
I would like to use it a bit longer and then I will re-evaluate the rating.
Not overly complicated, the Drive 61 will get you there...and that's what's important!
I decided to purchase a refurbished unit for 1/2 the price....I just hope it will hold up.
By the way, it came with a year warranty.
For my tired old eyes, the 6 inch screen is the MINIMUM that I would go with....7 would have been even nicer!
The touch screen COULD HAVE BEEN A BIT MORE SENSITIVE....it does not always react to simple and soft touches!
This was to replace my Nuvi that was stolen from my vehicle. I miss some of the attributes of the display: the location and elevation information was available in a little less intrusive manner, this display is larger, but not seem as bright as I remember the Nuvi. I am looking forward to adding the back-up camera feature (I just wish it was good enough to use for lane changes).
I had the very old Nuvi 225. It was a bit klutzy on the interface, but pretty much got me where I needed to go. This is a much better version of an excellent product. It's easier to add an address, and you can merge the data from your old to your new Garmin. It's bigger, brighter and lighter than the old one. I travel, and I tried using the rental company GPS, which was awkward and barely useful. Now I can bring my own Garmin with me, pre-loaded with all the destinations I'll be traveling to. Great buy - don't hesitate to get a newer version if you use GPS.
Excellent...just wish traffic updates were not an add-on. My older Garmin's all had it included.
