These are a great alternative for those wishing to not eat animal flesh. I am not fond of fake meats, but I love the consistency of these. I use them in all recipes that call for shredded meat. I soak them ahead of time occasionally, but I usually just add them to whatever I am making and just make sure I have enough liquid to accommodate them. I use them a lot in stir fries, curries, and bar-B-Q. Very easy to use and not nearly as weird as former meat lovers might think they would be.
It aint chicken but if you learn to tweak the cooking properly, it's a decent substitute. I've also cooked these with BBQ sauce with a much smaller amount of the chix seasoning to make a pretty decent meatless BBQ "not-chicken" sandwich.
One place they tend to fail is when used in dishes that require "wet cooking". The soy curls become a little too spongy, even if pan-cooked well first. Instead, pan cook the soy curls and only add them right at serving time so they don't sit in the moist stuff any more than needed.
The Chix seasoning is actually pretty remarkable and does get pretty close to a chicken flavor, although a bit on the side of processed chicken products (a little like canned chicken-soup flavor). I'd have it around without the soy curls because it's that useful and good. It is pretty salty as most similar seasonings are so just be aware and adjust accordingly.
I've been enjoying Soy Curls for a while now, and highly recommend them as a vegan, kosher meat substitute, especially with specialized flavorings, like the chicken flavoring included in this package.
I would urge you to use your Soy Curls in a month or two, although the nature of the dried product makes it tempting to save for a rainy day. They don't keep well, and should be refrigerated or frozen (something I only learned when I bought product directly from the company--this advice was printed on the receipt!)
They rehydrate in fifteen minutes (I include Liquid Smoke in the water) and them they're ready to be sauteed or otherwise made part of a dish.
So excited to get these! Husband and I going mostly plant based with our eating and these are a wonderful addition to so many recipes! They are tasty right out of the bag. Wonderful as taco meat, spaghetti meat, bbq etc! Some people sort and cook by size. I'm too lazy. These are awesome!!! You've GOT to try them! The chicken seasoning is mild, no sodium that I can taste. Nice to know its not full of artificial ingredients. Great for low sodium ramen replacement
Butler Soy Curls are an absolute necessity for anyone who is meat-free. They can be made to taste like just about any meat and have a very meaty texture. I've made them into pulled "chicken", stirfry, "chicken" salad, and fajitas so far with really great results. My kids will even eat them which says a lot! Their shelf life seems pretty good as well. I always use the chick'n seasoning when making these as directed on the package. I think it gives them a more chickeny flavor. Just be sure to drain them very well otherwise it might make your food soggy.

Soy curls are a fantastic alternative to frozen or homemade faux meat products. I always bought them without the seasoning and boy was that a mistake! Keep that and couple bags of soy curls on the shelf and you'll always have that kick of protein around. Their shelf life isn't super long and they do get a little weird if they get too far past the date, but they are still great in anything from tacos, to stir fry, to pasta. Sometimes I'll just make a batch and snack on them.
I’m a vegan and have been using these soy curls in my meals for a year, and they are awesome! To me and even my husband they taste like tender chicken. We first tried the soy curls without the Chik-style seasoning and it was pretty bland. We used the seasoning as indicated in directions and it was amazing. After I soak and drain them, I’ll add a tiny bit of oil in a nonstick pan (you don’t have to use oil) and brown them on medium-high. It doesn’t take but a few minutes. I put them in spaghetti, soups, chowders and salads. You can even use them to replace your tofu dishes.
If you haven't tried these, you're missing out! The reviews are spot on, if you're looking for a meat replacement, this is it. I've used them in chicken enchiladas, pulled pork sandwiches, shredded chicken tacos, chicken salad...do I need to go on. The taste is amazing, I always use the Butler chick seasoning, but they take on any flavor you season with, the texture is incredible, it's literally like eating real meat. NON-GMO SOY, full of fiber and protein, without all the bad stuff! I'm vegan, but even if I weren't I would be eating Soy Curls!
Love these soy curls as a healthy, vegan chicken replacement. Generally, I avoid fake meats, as most are full of processed things I’ve never heard of, but these have only 1 ingredient: soybeans! They even appear in recipes promoted by the healthy-food expert, the renowned Dr. Gregor. Be aware that like tofu, soy curls have no independent flavor, so be sure to cook them with flavorful seasonings & sauces. Also, the Chix seasoning that can be purchased with soy curls is very salty, almost like powdered bouillon, although it also is vegan. Thus, if you don’t eat salt, use your own favorite seasonings for flavor! (Also, I often chop up the soy curls a bit after rehydrating them.)
Soy curls are very versatile. Having recently gone vegan, I needed a product that had a meaty consistency and one that would easily take on flavors. Soy curls met all the requirements. After re-constituting the product for 10 minutes in warm water (which I season,) it is ready to use as is, or to cut into different lengths or in food processor for a "pulled" effect. I like to use BarBQ sauce with it, and make sandwiches. It is also good as is and heated with BarBQ sauce, or cook with onions and veggies as a stew. Good in fajitas as it easily picks up added flavors. The chicken seasoning is an excellent product too, very flavorful and reminiscent of chicken.. I will be re-ordering these products in the future as I am very pleased with what they add to the vegan or vegetarian pantry.
