I tried to order this game controller from a local store in the town my grandson lives, Tampa. I would take you through the steps of ordering from Microsoft, but you don't have enough time to listen or care.
After the Microsoft experience failed, time was limited since Christmas was near and I found it on Amazon. Ordered it and it was there in 2 days.
Why did I even waste my time with Microsoft?
Thank you Amazon, he loved it as an upgrade from an old controller. The Amazon Santa strikes again!
Only had a couple of days to play with it so this will mostly be about the new functionality compared to the original controller.
Very much like the overall feel of the controller. I have heard of some Q/C issues but I think they hammered those out. All the buttons *feel* very responsive and give positive clicks when used. I am an especially big fan of the alternate, circular D-Pad because it gives a very solid feel and easier (to me) activation than a normal D-Pad. The 4 extra paddles fit snugly and dont come out easily unless you are trying to change them out. The metal parts are a definite bonus. None of the parts feel cheap.
It may take some time to know what you want to map the new 4 options to, the app for mapping the controller is mostly intuitive. I have not fully delved into this, but I think with time it will become more intuitive. Having an option to pull a paddle and run while still maintaining good joystick feel is very nice, from early use. Note that some games will not register a trigger pull if you activate the cutoff. This can be nice for shooters where the left trigger needs a full pull but will respond to a half pull on the fire function. Some games, like Witcher 3, will not recognize the shorter travel distance.
The overall fit and finish is great, it does feel premium to the standard generation controller, with which I was already impressed. I have used it with a headset as well and the sound quality was what I would expect out of Dolby Atmos.
The overall package of a carrying case with additional slots for parts seems well thought out. We will see how many months before I stop putting it in the case every night.
I cant speak to longevity. I have heard of some issues with the controller breaking down but I don't see this happening any faster than a standard model. I have heard the rubberized grips will start to wear, but they seem fine to me.
Overall at a $100 markup to a standard controller, it is going to be up to the buyer to decide if this all is worth it. If you are content with the standard controller and dont feel the need for premium, probably stick with that. If you want some extra frills, I would say it is worth the markup. And really, over years of use, is $100 that crazy? Some people spend that on a single meal with a date, and since your girlfriend doesnt exist, you can just buy one fewer Waifu this month.
That's a yes from me, dog.
I've had some other Elite controllers (they break pretty fast) and I've used them for hundreds of hours and it's great, but eventually they do need to be replaced IMO, the buttons don't respond as fast (sometimes not at all), and you just stop being competitive once you need to give your controller a shake or a hard JAB to get the button to register. I don't throw mine, don't drop them, always wash hands before playing with them, and it's a non-smoking non-pets house. They just have several flaws in the basic design like how weak and tiny the green buttons under the paddles are.
So what do I notice? Well, I've handled some newer Elite controllers (the black ones) since then, and they all have their own quirks. Each controller is different. Some have 2% drift, some have 5% drift. Some sticks are floaty, others have pretty high resistance. And of course some paddles that give a stiff rewarding - click! - right out the box, and some don't.
This white revision really feels like the culmination of Microsoft shoring up their manufacturing process and stamping out the bugs. The rubber grips feel crisp and firm and really try hard to keep your hands on them. The white finish is rough (but not too rough) and also keeps your fingers in the places you want them to be without slipping. The buttons give a very crisp click, and the paddles feel like they need just the tiniest bit more effort to push. Also the triggers are wonderful, they feel like pushing on tusks of ivory. Most of all the D-Pad has a harder clickback so that you know for sure which direction you pressed.
These all feel like things that were intended to be in every original Elite controller from the start, but instead you'd get soft smooth (too smooth) surfaces and mushy buttons. This special edition one feels like the QC was just a little bit higher, and it's great.
Now where's my Elite Controller 2 with variable resistance and all the other promised goodies?
Same kick butt performance as the Black Elite controller. Yet for some reason the Black Elite controller feel better in my hand. If you are playing FPS this is the way to go. I have four Black Elites and one white Elite......I tend to buy a new controller every six months, but I am a competitive gamer as well. The longest I have played on an Elite controller was one year, then I will noticed the response was not the same from all the squeezing and thumb stick movement. I always maintained a 2.5 KD on bad game play using the Elite controller, keyboard and mouse 2.1 which is odd as is more responsive. I would more than likely stay with the Black elite controller going forward as it feels and look more upscale.
I gave a four star rating because I ordered the elite controller got it and right away when I squeezed the triggers the right trigger had a click in it like it was catching something inside. So I contacted amazon about it lucky I spoke to a great rep and he sent me a replacement and the new one I received was flawless I love the controller it great and will buy again.

My biggest problem? Going back and playing with regular controllers. The Elite is the Maserati of Xbox Confrollers. I owned a black one for about 3 years until I got careless and dropped it on its right bumper. So this time around I saw the White was available and it’s just like I remember. Heavy (but not too heavy) The grips keep the controller in place. The customization/configuration is great.
I can’t say enough good things about the elite controller. Just be prepared to never be able to go back to a normal Xbox controller again.
Without a doubt was worth every penny. I had been on the fence for years about spending the extra money on a controller with paddles and customizable features. I was always scared away by the high prices of Scuf controller and their reputation for breaking often. I finally pulled the trigger on this controller, thanks to a few too many drinks haha but sober me thanked influences me later. I’m an above average gamer mostly playing shooters like Call of duty, Apex and alike games and this controller has allowed me to take my gameplay to the next level. The ability to never take your thumbs off the analog sticks is a feature I’ll never be able to play without now. The learning curve was surprisingly short as well. I’d suggest taking the first 1-2 days or gaming sessions and only practicing against bots to learn which paddle set up works best for you. 10/10 would buy again. Fantastic product!
I love this controller, its sleek and comfortable. the rubberized diamond grips are in a world of their own, and to have the additional buttons are a plus, though I only really use the upper 2. Outside of the rubber grips the best thing about this controller is the interchangeable thumb sticks, I love using the extended thumbstick for the right stick for aiming precision and even the rounded top on the left for a more aggressive movement. all around a great product though the price is extremely high, and to those who don't want to spend the money on this controller should consider the sport white or sport red edition controller because they come with the diamond rubberized grip which I say is an absolute awesome addition to the xbox controller!
I just got this controller in to replace my current controller I use to play rocket league. The left analog stick, sticks whenever pushed to the left upper edge and makes it a nightmare to steer in rocket league. I hope the replacement I ordered will be good and I will update this review. Other than that the controller feels amazing and definitely much higher quality than a standard controller.
Edit: the replacement is perfect. Definitely the best xbox controller I have held held and used.
Didn't wanna spend the money but I'm glad I did. This controller is badass.
