I ordered these seeds because I was having way too many senior moments. As a consultant, it's important that I am sharp. I already take flaxseed for inflammation with good results.
When I grind the flaxseed, I add approximately the same amount of chia seed. I put it in a glass and add a couple tablespoons of either lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. This trick prevents the ground flaxseed from becoming gooey mess. Stir to a paste then slowly add lukewarm water while stirring. Then guzzle the whole thing down.
I also carry small bottle of chia seed to sprinkle on my lunch. The seeds them self are tasteless so they can be sprinkled on just about anything. Make sure you have a toothbrush with you because the Little Seeds will stick between your teeth.
The good
1. Has most definitely helped me cognitively. Far fewer senior moments. In some ways I feel sharper than I have ever been as I approach 60 years old.
2. Don't know if this is related but 'Mr. Happy' has been pretty happy lately.
3. No taste or smell. Unoffensive.
The bad. Not much!
1. Sticks between your teeth.
These chia seeds cost about five times as much if you buy them at Whole Foods, so the price can't be beat. More than than, these are the perfect raw food, with the perfect balance of carbs, fat (the good kind!), protein and fiber. My favorite use for this is 1/2 cup chia, 1/2 cup psyllium, 2 cups Knudson 100% tart cherry juice. Mix well in a flat Tupperware and let sit overnight and you get what I call roadkill gummy bear loaf - a tasty, tangy, chewy treat that is full of fiber and good nutrition. Fills me up between meals and is quite tasty as well. For breakfast mix 1/4 cup chia seeds, 2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk - stir well until the chia swells, let sit while you shower and shave, and then enjoy a wholesome breakfast pudding. Add almonds, walnuts, pecans, blueberries or whatever strikes your fancy, and you've got the perfect breakfast that will keep you satisfied for hours. Take that, Cap'n Crunch!
My name is Audrey and I am a Chia See Addict. LOL. Seriously though I do consume quite a bit of these little miracle seeds. I like making vegan pudding with these to fulfill my dessert cravings, it has saved me from eating ice cream or other late night snacks so I can stay on my training target..trying to stay sim these days is a challenge! The pudding is simlar in texture to tapioca but tastes much lighter. You just make some almond milk in the blender, strain it and add in some chia seeds and pop it in the fridge to solidify. It lasts for about 3 days, its awesome to top it with a little fruit or maple syrup and crushed nuts. I also have been exploring other uses of this stuff because I bought such a huge quantity in this pack, so I've been adding it in my morning oatmeal, sprinkling it in salad dressing, even baking muffins with them. It's a great way to increase your protein intake.
This bag was a terrific deal for those that like to buy in bulk!
So far so good. I'm on my second bag and I'm not complaining. I love my chia drinks.
Here's a quick recipe for you (I've refined this recipe from watching youtube and google searches):
1) Start with 1.5L warm water. (My infrared thermometer indicated 105 degrees F. Which in my case is 2 minutes in the electric kettle.)
2) In a container combine the warm water and 1/2 cup of chia seed. (I use a 1-gallon container. In my case, I'm upcycling an arrowhead 1-gallon water bottle.)
3) Shake the container, and let it soak for 30 minutes. (I usually shake the container every 5 minutes and let it set on my counter for 2 hours.)
4) Add in your favorite juice. I use 14 oz of grape juice.
5) Sit back and enjoy this healthy and delicious chia drink for cheap. (Did you know a bottle at the store cost $3 for only 10 oz?)
We go through a lot of chia seeds in my house. I have purchased them in a lot of different places, but these are always the best - and at the best price (especially if you catch them on a Lightning Deal!).
We mainly use them in morning smoothies, one or two tablespoons each. You can't taste them, but if you eat them, be sure and check or brush your teeth good before going out as they like to hang out up along your gumline. Not quite as gross looking as spinach, but it's close!
I weighed the bag this morning, the entire 6 lbs. is in it. I transfer them into quart glass jars to store. Good stuff! Glad to be able to purchase it here.

Arrived fast, acceptable packaging, really heavy duty bag (chia seeds will get in the ziplock, they crush and it still seals but its annoying)
clean, very little plant matter, you cant expect 100% chia seeds only i see a lot of reviews whining cause theres some plant matter its been shipped the seeds will shed and leave stuff behind, some may break open they're still clean, quality seeds (have you never had a raisin with a bit of vine left on? come on now.)
static can be an annoying issue with the seeds, you have to get used to it. I like putting mine in plastic dry food containers
agave or a sweetener is needed for me at least, juice isnt sweet enough unless you soak the seeds in it instead of water
almond(or any) chocolate milk with these is a great way to have them, blackberries are also really good with chia seeds.
Great packaging, great seeds will buy again!!
Seeds plump in minutes and set my almond pudding in about an hour, excellent!
I like them with water plumped for about 15 mins is perfect...
I would give this product six stars if I could. I place these chia seeds in a lunch smoothie every day, and they deliver with wholesome energy, stamina, and overall better health. The customer service and effort from the company is fantastic, and the product always exceeds my expectations. I have ordered this product or the five pound version for the past five years. I always weigh each new package when it arrives, and every time the weight has been just over the listed amount. Prices over the past five years have varied between $3.7 per pound to over $8 per pound, but these variations match nicely to the variation in fuel costs over that same period (correlation of over 91%) which means that the real price and consumer value of these seeds has remained relatively constant.
I decided to try chia seeds because I'd read about "chia pudding" and as I do a low-carb food plan and don't eat grains, I thought that this would give me the feeling of grains without the carbs since almost all carbs in chia are just fiber. I had tried a much more expensive version of the white seeds, and they were fine, but when I saw this 6-pound bag for this price I decided I'd try the dark seeds.
Other than color, I detect no difference and I hear that any nutritional differences between the white and dark are negligible. I'm happy with these and at roughly $4/pound I think they're great.
One of thing I want to point out is that I've now received two orders of the 6-pound bag and mine have all been in perfect shape. Some reviewers said that their bags had broken or become unsealed but this hasn't happened to me and it's certainly not because amazon has shipped them carefully - the bag is just really heavy and strong.
Chia seeds * comes from the mint family but what can it do for me?
I asked myself this when I was looking for a health addition to my smoothie. In researching this seed it appears it has been linked to hydration, lower B/P, easy to digest and articles state it can even help with diabetes by assisting in controlling blood sugars. This price, this value and these benefits makes this the perfect addition. There seems to be no flavor, at-least not for me. I can even add this to the hubbies smoothies and the children's smoothies for health benefits without them feeling the taste has been compromised. I am a busy wife, mother, EMT and full-time student, with all of these health benefits being address by this one product it makes for a great life choice.
This product arrived fresh and I will certainly buy it again! Great product & great price!
Study bag- great zip-lock for easy storage.
* Heads up if you have a nut allergy as it states on the bag that this package facility also handles tree nuts.
