The flavor, color, and texture are good but it doesn’t reconstitute into anything that resembles fresh spinach leaves, so don’t expect it. It is more like finely chopped, frozen spinach that is well cooked. It is nothing like canned spinach, not at all slimy.
I have used it in soups, dips, pasta dishes, rice dishes and egg dishes, all with good results.
Crumbling it into powder using my blender, I added “stealth nutrition” into hamburgers, meatloaves, and sauces for the grandkids. They never even suspected it was there.
It is very helpful when cooking for one or for anyone who can’t get out to shop very often. The container is light weight and easy to handle.
This has the same nutritional value as fresh without the waste and there are no additives or sodium to worry about.
I love a fresh spinach salad but for most other uses of spinach I think I will use this from now on.
Because getting your family to eat enough vegetables is hard.
Some people love vegetables. For me, it's a challenge to get enough vegetables into my family's diet.
I've tried sneaking fresh spinach into their food and that was a colossal failure. My husband in particular will take the time to pick the pieces off of the sandwich that I tried to hide it in with the lettuce.
The great part about this dried spinach is that when I put it in the food people just assume that I went a bit heavy on the parsley. It makes it pretty easy to put in everything. I've added it to soups, burgers ... even those velveeta hamburger helper things. I've not had one complaint yet!
I love the product. It tastes fresh and natural and is super easy to use.
You can taste it if you put a lot in, so I usually only add a couple Tablespoons here and there. Per the package, 1/2 cup dried = 1 cup reconstituted. This was a little nebulous to me as to what would actually equal a serving per the FDA guidelines for veggie servings.
1 cup of fresh spinach is a serving per the FDA, but frsh is fluffy. There is 7 calories in 1 cup of fresh spinach and about 40 in 1 cup of cooked spinach. So, I use those guidelines in determining how much of this would technically equal a serving of vegetables. The label says there is 350 calories in the full jar.
Even if you can't sneak in a full serving, I think any little bit helps.
Long ago I bought Tone's freeze dried mushrooms at Sam's Club. They stopped carrying them but I was able to continue to purchase them on line. The last time I tried, they were discontinued, and I panicked because I had come to depend on them for many dishes I make. An on line search brought up this new one, so I ordered 2 to try. I just tried them in my mushroom and barley and vegetable soups and they seem to be just as good; however, they do cost more (and don't seem to go quite as far). Nevertheless, I am about to order more as I had to use 1 and 1/2 of the two jars for the soups. These are so much better than canned mushrooms. The flavor is much stronger. Once re-hydrated, it's like using fresh mushrooms.
I like this product a lot for convenience and longevity. Sometimes you just don't have fresh mushrooms around the house or when you thought you did, you find they've shriveled or have become otherwise unappetizing.
Potential buyers must be aware that the container is rated at a 1-quart volume capacity. In weight, 1 quart = 32 oz. = 2 pounds, but you are not getting it based on weight, you're getting it based on volume. In actual weight, you're receiving a few ounces, tops, making them extremely expensive per pound, especially after the humongous price hike.
I most recently purchased these 6 months ago. Since then, the price has more than doubled (minus 1 star), so I probably won't be repurchasing from this source unless they revert to somewhere near my original cost, which was under thirteen dollars.
Great reviews! The fragrance is delightful and fresh and the flavor is even better than expected. Favorites of mine are jalapeno cream cheese and pimento (Roland whole pimentos from Amazon) cheese. These are very easy to include in so many recipes . . . a new pantry staple. This was a good choice for me because there is no added salt.
Another brand is available from Amazon and one of the reviews mentioned that stems were included in the contents. I write reviews because I read reviews . . . makes shopping easier for unfamiliar products. The ratings vary and the most helpful is listed beside the most critical . . . thank you for taking the time to share your opinions!

Yum yum yum!
I am still new yo dehydrated foods but I love cooking with spinach in many dishes. I just can never seem to keep it fresh long enough. This was wonderful though. I put 1-2T in most dishes and it cooks along with the food.
It adds subtle spinach flavor with many of the benefits. I even put it in the pasta for my kids macaroni and cheese and the love it. Can't go wrong when kids approve!
I have no complaints at all about this product itself. It provided everything that the website advertised. So why only four stars and not five?
OK, the website did not show the information I value most -- namely, the number of servings per container. (Or other numbers that allow me to compute the number of servings per container.) That is what tells me whether I am getting good value for my money. Yes, by taking off one star, I am blaming the product for a poor website. And, yes, I always do that. Sorry, folks.
I ordered these some time ago and have nearly exhausted my jar, so I'll be ordering more fairly soon. These mushrooms are terrific for rehydrating and throwing into an omelette, on homemade pizza, or especially into soup. (I use these along with the freeze dried celery by the same company when I make ramen, to make a hardier and more flavorful soup.) The flavor is quite good comparing favorably against canned mushrooms. Fresh mushrooms are still the very best, but these are perfect for when you want to throw something together quickly and just need to add a little savory flair, especially if you're pressed for time or didn't plan ahead. And unlike canned mushrooms, you can use as little or as much as you want, instead of having to use a whole can once you've opened it.
Now that I'm at the bottom of the jar, I do have a lot more broken pieces, which other reviewers have mentioned. But most of the mushroom slices in the jar were quite intact, and I have no complaints.
WOW!!! Great find!!! This makes almost anything taste better if you enjoy hot (spicy) food, I do, snd use about 1 1/4 heaping teaspoons of these for a serving or two.
After just about finishing up my first container of these and debating on whether or not to spend so much on a replacement considering my circu;mstances, I decided to first google the health benefits. I knew that the capsaicin found in jalapenos was good for the heart, but didn't know that it also has nine other benefits, which you can find listed by googling as I did, or going to www. lossarapes.com.
For the first time in years, my knee feels about 85%-90% normal and reliable. This is a very recent occurrence and I never really questioned it till after reading that the capsicin can relieve arthritis; in hindsigiht, I now believe that because of how much of these jalapenos I've been adding to my food regularly that they're the reason for the improvement. I don't take anything else.
I hydrate this longer than suggested before adding it my scrambled egg mix, bread machine dough or biscuit batter. I use a lot of freeze dried foods because it lasts longer and I do not waste a lot of food.
I thought you may like the country gravy recipe and instructions. This recipe will make enough gravy to use with about 10 to 12 biscuits depending on how much gravy you use.
1/2 C + 2 Tbsp Canola Oil
1/4 C Sausage Crumbles - Hydrate before adding
1/4 C Bacon Bits - Hydrate before adding, (you can leave this out if you do not want bacon bits in your gravy)
1 Tbsp Chives - I also use the chives that need hydrating before adding.
1/2 to 1 Tbsp Bullion flavor - I use better than bullion ham flavor
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 1/2 C All Purpose Flour
4 1/2 C milk
In a bowl put the Sausage crumbles, bacon bits and chives add the water necessary to hydrate, (let it hydrate for 10 to 15 min). While the meat and onions are hydrating put the oil in a skillet on medium heat and let it get hot but not too hot. When the meat mix is hydrated drain excess water, if there is any, and add it to oil and whisk so mix with the meat mixture and oil is well mixed you should not have any excess oil in the pan. Add the bullion flavor you chose, salt and pepper and continue whisking for about five to seven minuets. Slowly the flour a little at a time it will be a bit stiff but add slowly until all the flour is added do not let the flour burn. Add about 1 cup of the milk and whisk until smooth and there are no flour clumps. Keep adding the milk about 1/4 cup at a time and whisk well to prevent clumps from forming. Keep doing this until all the milk is added. When the gravy starts to bubble turn the temperature down to medium low and continue cooking and whisking. If the gravy is too thick add a little more milk, small amounts at a time until you have the consistency you want, but if it is too runny cook off some some of the water until you have what you want. When you are done you can add more salt and pepper for taste. I normally add double the pepper the recipe calls for.
I do this from memory and eye ball most of the ingredients and have not put this recipe in written form before last night I do hope it is not too confusing. I wrote the recipe because I have no real review other than it is a great product which sounds a bit superficial and thought the recipe would be of some use I hope.
The bacon bits I use is Augason Farms, Walmart has a large selection of Augason Farms products in #10 cans at a reasonable price. I also sue Augason Farms Scrambled Egg mix, Shortening Powder and anything else I eat on a regular basis.
