AmazonBasics Laptop Computer Backpack - Fits Up To 17 Inch Laptops

AmazonBasics Laptop Computer Backpack - Fits Up To 17 Inch Laptops

This is a solid backpack with lots of room and compartments. The first compartment has several little dividers to hold your pens, post-it notes, business cards, phone, external drives, power cords, etc. The second compartment is not as deep or wide as the other pockets but goes down the whole length of the backpack. The third compartment is h-u-g-e! It's deep and wide and about 3-4" at the bottom and will hold a ton of books, folders, and notebooks. The rear compartment has a padded area for the laptop, a shallow pocket and another huge area that's as big as the 3rd compartment. Finally, in between the 3rd and 4th compartments is a mini-pocket that can hold a phone, iPod, ear buds, and other small items. This thing can hold a lot! On each side of the backpack is a mesh pocket with elastic top. It will hold a 20 oz. bottle of water. Drink containers larger than a 20 oz. water bottle will probably not fit. Now, let's talk about padding. The front compartment is padded, the handle is padded, the shoulder straps are very well padded and the areas that will be pressing against your shoulder blades and lower back are thickly padded, too.

Overall, this is a great backpack and not too "basic". It's lightweight and strong. However, I have a 17" laptop (screen size). When I actually measured the body, it is 16 1/2". It can barely fit into the backpack without a lot of effort. And at the very top of the bag, where the corners of the laptop are, the laptop is clearly pushing the limits of the fabric so now those areas of my laptop are at risk for damage if dropped and the bag probably won't last more than a year before those areas completely wear through. And that is why I had to give this a 4-star rating. :-(

If you have a 15" laptop and a lot of gear to carry, then this backpack is great and would be worth all 5 stars!!!

PROs: Don't let the price fool you. This backpack is a workhorse! I use it every day, from work to weekend trips. For work, it carries my gym clothes, laptop, lunch bag, and coffee/water without leaving strap indents in my shoulders. On the weekend, my wife an I convert it to a diaper bag, so it carries diapers, extra clothes/food, toys, changing pad, water bottles, blankets, etc.
CONs: I might have missed it, but I didn't see an option for different colors. Also, one of the mesh side-pockets ripped. Since I don't know how to repair it and I don't want the rip to expand (making the pocket totally useless), I don't use it. That's a slight inconvenience.
Overall, I want another one. It's perfect for everyday use or special occasions (family field trips - museums, carnivals, petting zoos, etc.).

I must admit that I was first skeptical about a backpack for under 30 bucks that would meet the rigorous demands of an IT technologist such as myself. Well, this is the best "IT crash bag" I have ever owned. It was recently field-tested under rugged conditions, much of it in the rain, holding up quite well, and unexpectedly pulled through for me under some trying circumstances. It held all my tools I needed: multi-tool, screwdriver, crimps, diag-cutters, adapters, notepads, pens, markers, cables, 17" laptop and charger, iPad Air, work gloves, flashlight, spare parts, etc. I hope the picture speaks for itself. I highly recommend it for field and office.

EDIT: I would like to add this is one durable backpack! Lately I have been traveling with this bag on commercial flights as checked luggage, maybe twic, since I carry so many tools for my work. Without exception, I find a TSA card inside. One time, one of the zippers had popped off track. I was bummed that I might have to purchase another bag. I went online, found a relatively easy way to repair it. SAVED MONEY and TIME. In my experience, manufacturers skimp on the zipper quality, causing it to easily crack or completely break if you try to pry at it with needle-nosed pliers or screwdriver. Not in my case! Happy customer.

After one week of use and a trip across the state, I'm a solid fan. I have a a few more trips scheduled and hear that the bag doesn't always hold up. I'll post an update if there are any issues. I have a 17" MBP and have had no issues with the size. I would have preferred more places to store pens, but oh well. I'm not sure why there are complaints about the padding and protection for the laptop inside of the bag. Don't use this bag to hit people and you will be fine. This has been a nice change from carrying an attache case. Solid construction and nice functions make this a solid win!

Update after Four Months: I have been using this bag daily to transport laptop and ipad between work and home. I have also gone on three trips, one by train and two by car. This bag is still like new and holding up strong. After some use, I really like that there are 3 "storage" compartments in the front not including the space for pens and stuff (five total compartments). The storage options lets me keep personal and business paperwork from mixing. I typically carry a laptop, ipad, a couple of textbooks, and all the other junk that just sits there in the bag.

Love this backpack. I was able to accommodate 2 laptops (both in cases) as well as all of the accessories (plugs, mice, headsets) for them. I also carried a tablet and all of our "carry on" needs (hats, sunglasses, sweatshirts) with room to spare. And while our bag was not light with all of our "stuff" - the shoulder straps were padded well and provided good cushion so it was not painful to carry. The bag has was easily adjusted, so both my husband at 6'3", my daughter at 5'4" and me at 5'3" could all carry comfortably. Would highly recommend!

Description

An Amazon Brand.

I wear daily backpacks to work. I was looking to buy an inexpensive backpack with decent space inside. After a day of research online I decided to give this backpack a try.

Good value for price backpack. Decent materials and construction. I can fit everything i need for school in this backpack without a problem (my laptop, 3 notebooks and a 3000 page book). I wore it on a day when it rained a little and found the contents of the backpack intact.

Pros:
- Good price
- Decent space inside
- Water resistant against light rain

Cons:
-Zippers seem a little fragile though they have not failed me after a couple weeks of use.

Not only is this thing bigger than it looks in the pictures, but it's one of those backpacks that has a million pockets and compartments you'll never use but appreciate they're there; or like I do, and find things you'll never use. But in the off chance the cute girl in your chemistry class needs a copy of the periodic table, youll be able to not only not impress her, but come up with chemistry puns that make her uncomfortable to be in the same room with you.

Nothing on the backpack is thin. The flaps, stitching, pockets, all THICK. Very durable and well made. The first thing I noticed were the thickness of the zipper thingys (the part you hold and move) you'll walk around with the confidence of a pineapple-less pizza with this swag bag.

In short:
GET THIS BACKPACK NOOOOWWWW!!!!

I have had this pack for few weeks now using it for work. I will say its a great value! Tons of options for storing things. Good quality. Handles my 14" laptop perfectly. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is I had to alter a feature I didn't like but this is probably just me. I like quick opening of zippers. A couple of the zippers on this bag have the rain guard flap the cover the zipper to keep zippers covered . Some may like this but it catches the zipper when you try to open quickly forcing you to pull back the flap with one hand while unzip with the other or be strategic on how you open. So I took some industrial scissors and cut the flap off exposing the full zipper. Now I can grab the zipper and pull it back as fast as I want and smooth operation. This is bag is a great value.

This was a solid value. The only thing that would have made it better is if there was a way to split off the front section so "purse type" stuff could come off of "textbook and laptop" stuff. and be a separate backpack. Or rollers... just having to cart the whole thing full of school stuff all day is a pain.

Edited to add:
Now that the semester is over, I have to come back and say, this thing performed like a champ, after a LOT of abuse, winter weather, massive textbooks, being stuffed to the gills and such, it still shows NO signs of wear, nothing fell off it, nothing broke, the stitching all held, all of the buckles are in fine order, and not one zipper decided to stop zipping. It kept my stuff protected and dry in the rain, and the straps were actually padded in a functional way. I still had way too much stuff to pack into it, but that's my school's fault, not the backpack. This backpack was a GREAT deal.
The only issue I really encountered was the "phone pocket" on the strap was not big enough for an actual phone. it is about right for a few pens maybe?

I should note, though, I never took my laptop in it, mainly because the classes I needed my laptop for, that was all I had to take, so I didn't need the other stuff in the backpack. Also I had so much heavy stuff to carry, I was not sure of the laptop not getting smooshed or banged into.

Sweet Bag. Well thought out pocket/section design. Well worth the modest amount of cheese Amazon is asking for it. I'm picky/finicky about things and I really like this bag. Will revisit my review in time should there be any issues but I don't foresee any.

Quality Cordura nylon type material, quality zippers, there's a lot of bang for the buck here.

Here are pics of the front storage compartment as well as a few of the bag with my Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C1DZ (15.6-Inch Full HD IPS, 4GB RAM, 16GB SSD) stowed to give you an idea of the padded laptop compartment size. You can also see the retro-reflective material used on the exterior of the bag.

Get one, enjoy it and thanks Amazon for offering a great product at a reasonable price.
