Dell Optiplex 990 Tower High Performance Business Desktop Computer, Intel Quad Core i5 up to 3.4GHz Processor, 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, DVD, WiFi, Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit(Renewed)

Was looking to build a PC with a smaller size but while looking for cases I came across this. I figured worse case scenario if it sucks I'd strip it and use the tower, memory, hdd, and whatever else I could and build from there. To my suprise it works pretty darn well. I run 3-4 instances of Final Fantasy 11 at the same time with highly tweaked graphics pretty much all day. It can handle it ok as is, but with a little video lag which is understandable with integrated graphics. So I did a little shopping and snagged a Geforce GTX 1050Ti for $130, and a power supply for $30, which was pretty cool. So this PC plus $160 and now it's pretty much awesome. Video is outstanding now. If you run games just know you will need to put a card in it. The video card comes within .25" of the first memory stick but fits like it was meant to be there. The power supply needs to be upgraded if you add a video card for sure, because the stock 275w is just not going to hold up. The new power supply plugged in perfectly and fit like a glove. There's 4 memory slots on the board in the one I got, with 2x 4gb sticks and 2 open slots. I plan on upgrading to 16gb maybe, but right now I don't really see the need. It boots fast and in the couple months I've had it there's been zero issues. The Windows 10 install on mine is clean and there's not a bunch of garbage proprietary software installed like you get buying a new brand name PC. There's enough room in the case for another optical drive and at least 2 more HDDs. The usb wireless adapter they threw in the box is ok I guess, but it kept dropping the connection. It's most likely an issue with my aging router or my lack of wireless knowledge, so I just got unlazy and ran a Ethernet cable. Perfect connection so far thru the onboard adapter. I've seen some bad reviews but I figure with refurbs bad apples are bound to happen, and/or it could be user errors. If you get one and don't expect much, you just might be pleasantly surprised.

I am a well known penny pincher. I buy clothes at Goodwill and buy generics of everything if available. That being said, I needed a computer and saw quickly that now is not a good time at all to build one. I'm not about to buy a brand new computer either..so the search began for a decent used or refurb. I found this and was pleased with the price and specs. Also, I found that if I applied for the Amazon visa and was approved I'd get $70 off my order. What a steal.....if it worked and really had what the description said it had. I received it in a timely fashion and the packing was amazing. I immediately opened the case and did an inventory of parts. Only one thing was wrong in the description. It was not a Optiplex 990 but a 790. Not a big deal. I am changing out the power supply for more power and installing an SSD. You can't go wrong with this company as far as I can see. I would do business with again. This was a winning decision to order this. If my review has been helpful..please push that button on the bottom.

Folks, this is my review of the Dell 990 with 8 gigs of ram and a 2tb hdd. The machine I received was sold by Skytech. The first thing I did was look under the hood, sorry folks Ima auto mechanic thats "open the case" for normal folks. My machine was manufactured 11/2011. It has been completely disassembled, I can tell by new paint on the exterior and slight overspray on an interior piece. It also appears that the case itself was disassembled because it has new rivets holding the exterior case to the interior frame. Also 1 rivet was loose and bouncing around inside the case. If you hear anything loose when u receive your computer, open the side and dump it out. Folks, these machines are tossed around like volley balls by the delivery guys. Common sense would be to visually inspect the inside for loose or damaged components before you ever plug it in. These are refurbished machines. They are NOT NEW. When these machines were new, they were the top of the line for Dell. They are extreme workhorses even at todays standards. The 2tb hdd does make noise but I found on mine that it is not so much the hdd but the rack the hdd is mounted in. It rattles. I found a small piece of rubber hose between the hdd and the rack completely solved that problem. As for the operating system, Win 10 pro 64 bit activated with no problem. And of course it is a 64 bit processor. These machines are rated for 16gb max ram. I ordered mine with only 8gb to save a few bucks. It came with four 2gb sticks installed. For my needs 8gb is sufficient. I did do some research on this machine and it has been run with 32 gigs of ram installed and said to be working perfectly. Check it out yourself. Google is ur friend...use it. I would suggest only 1 thing and this actually covers any machine with a hdd. Buy a ssd to use for your main drive. Using Crystal Disk Mark, this machine read/write the hdd at 112/110 MBs . I put a used ssd I had in it and brought the read/write speed up to 560/480 MBs! Thats exactly 5 times faster read speed! This machine is a beast! I just cloned the 2tb to the ssd and use the ssd for my main drive then reformatted the 2tb and use it for storage. I also added a GeForce 210 video card and a PCIe USB 3.0 card. The internal video card has VGA and Display Port outputs but I wanted to run two 32" tv's as monitors without buying adapters. With the added video card (new the cards are around $40) this machine runs the two 32" tv's as dual monitors beautifully. I would also recommend the additional usb 3.0 PCIe card. It has I think 10 usb 2.0 but 3.0 is so much faster, Its well worth another $30-$40 to add this on. This machine has 1 PCIe x16 slot, 1 PCIe x4 slot, 1 PCIe x1 slot and 1 PCI slot. Folks, I am very pleased with this machine and highly recommend it. I can also recommend Skytech as a seller because being a mechanic, I can tell good workmanship vs something just thrown together. The guys at Skytech did a nice job with this machine. For this price if you add a few upgrades you will have a machine that will once again be top of the line. But folks, dont expect a brand new top of the line machine for $200 straight outta the box. This aint 1980!

Excellent experience computer arrived a day early. Was extremely well packaged. Five minutes from unpacking to activation of Windows 10 Professional. The computer for a refurbished unit was in exceptionally good condition few minor scratches but no dings or discoloration. The interior of the computer was spotlessly clean.

Initial thoughts the processor is really fast and memory seems more than adequate. Probably more than I'll ever need since the computer's primary use will be Internet, Office apps and light photo editing. The hard drive is a bit noisy but the cooling fans are silent. This is a great full-sized case expansion would be really easy. At the price point with tax $209 it's a exceptional bargain. I'm very impressed by the seller and the computer itself.

I bought this 990 as a replacement for my WinXP (gasp) machine that was on the edge of dying for 5 years. I was skeptical of buying a refurb because some stories are really bad about them though likely those are fairly rare. My intention is to install a gpu and new power supply to allow for 3D rendering and light CAD work along with some gaming and this rig is perfect for that.

Amazingly, when I opened the case to install a new SSD for the OS and other intensive programs I thought there was some mistake. The case and all fans, boards, cable, literally everything were spotless. The machine looked brand new with absolutely no dust anywhere...not even inbetween cooling fins or under boards or in cracks or crevices. Astounding. It seems as though the machine WAS either brand new or the company who refurbs these goes all out...and I mean all out...cleaning them.

The HDD is an older model and using crystaldisk I saw that it was used and powered on a bunch and left on even longer, but that was to be expected. All of the other components looked new though so I am thoroughly confused. Unless my unit was used in a clean room I don't understand how they got it so clean.

Obviouslly I'm happy with the computer and it really is a bargain for what you are paying for. With upgrades totalling around $150 (depending on GPU) you can have a really capable 3D/CAD/Gaming rig for under $400 with a good GPU, an SSD and a new more than capable PSU.

Solid refurb, albeit a bit dusty inside. Performance-wise it has exceeded my expectations. My intentions were to move over my existing array of drives and upgrade a few components for a standalone media server. Was a good bargain (specs to price ratio) out of the box, but if you're willing to put in a few extra dollars you can take it up a few notches. As is, it would make for a great low-cost family PC, but would highly recommend swapping out the HD for an SSD to extend the life. The HD included is a noisy OEM drive, so if you're comfortable swapping it out and re-installing the OS, you'll see a nice jump in performance. Lastly, as mentioned earlier, it's a bit dusty. Grab a can of compressed air for a quick cleaning, these babies have been sitting on the shelf awhile. Shipping was prompt and boxed properly.

The first computer I bought was an Altair 8800. The majority of the computers I have owned since then I built myself. In recent years it has become more difficult, and less necessary, for me to deal with assembling all the parts needed for a high-power "kick-a$$" computer. So when the machine I use for my daily Internet work got sick I decided to go hunting for my second refurbished computer. My first was purchased strictly for use with an SDR receiver. All I needed was reasonable speed, and room to add a hard drive or 2. What I found was Blair Technology. The computer I ordered came exactly as described. Setting it up was a snap. The documentation provided was accurate, and left no doubt in my mind that Blair, unlike some "refurb" vendors, thought the whole process through. Even the box it came in was specifically designed to protect the machine in shipment. The keyboard and mouse are NEW, not old ones cleaned up and thrown in the box. The inside of the machine was spotless. There was only one mark on the outside. It was on the edge of the detachable access door and not even a factor in performance.

In short, I recommend Blair to anyone looking for a reliable, well done, refurbished computer. They thought things through, and even a total novice at computing will have help from Blair if needed

We liked this Windows 10 computer so much that 3 of our employees purchased one. Arrived without the Wifi adapter, but was quickly sent from supplier. Started right up, loaded software and it has hummed now for over 3 months without
a single problem.
OH, and all that Bloatware that comes on a new computer............GONE! Well worth the money.

We bought this computer to replace my wife's desk top which no longer had the capacity to meet her demands. She uses her computer for her business - largely requiring office apps - and storing pictures and videos of our 4 grandchildren. We are not gamers. This refurbished computer with a 2 terabyte drive more that quadrupled our capacity for about $200. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and it all worked. Great Deal!!!

This is very good deal, and the computer was packed very well.
Not sure how it is in base configuration, because I doubled the ram and replaced the hard drive with an SSD. The computer is smoking fast :-). If you really think about it you can spend that kind of money just to get a power supply. However, here you get a base unit that you can spend another $100 on and then you have a very solid computer. I put Ubuntu on mine, but I am suire Win 10 will be as good. Again, very good experience, will shop from here again.
