Convenient single serving packages. It's spam. It's gross yet delicious. It's going to have high sodium levels, it's processed meat. It's addictive. I fry mine in coconut oil and season it with garlic and onion. Once fried, I toss it on a toasted gluten free English muffin with mustard and an over easy egg. Sometimes I use ketchup (see pic). To die for!
I love these things so much! It's a little more expensive (Price per ounce) than the tins of spam, but these are so much handier. They are thick slices, that are cut into squares, that fit perfectly on bread! So, if you just want 1 sandwich, just rip open a pouch and make one! You don't have to bother with refrigerating leftovers or sticking the rest of the tin in a ziploc.
It's just incredibly handy! Plus, they are also pretty good if you have a spam craving, and just wanna snack on a piece!
The shelf life is incredible as well! I ordered mine in october of 2016, and the expiration date is august of 2019!
Boy, the black pepper really adds a zingy touch to this old favorite. I've always liked Spam, despite its non-glamorous reputation. (For me, it just needs to be brought to life with a quick zap in the microwave, rather than served cold.) So it was a treat to find that the liberal addition of cracked black pepper truly kicks things up a notch taste-wise. It's like that's what Spam has been waiting for all its life -- the perfect spice accompaniment. And black pepper is it. Don't worry that the Spam will be too "hot." Unlike red pepper, black pepper is not about delivering "heat." It just adds a spicy nip to the taste buds. If you like Spam, I think you'll like the black-pepper version.
How different could flavored Spam be, right?
Well, if you are reading reviews, you are at least curious!
Disclaimer - we LIKE Spam at our house. I know many folks don't, but it is low carb tastiness.
My husband loves black pepper on everything, so I ordered this to give it a try. This flavor isn't in any of
our local stores that I've ever seen.
We made a stir-fry with sliced zucchinis, celery, radishes (GREAT cooked!), green onions and tomatoes.
For the protein, we diced up a can of the Black Pepper Spam.
What a tasty dish!!
The black pepper does NOT hide in this food... it is out there and in your face!
I found it a little too peppery for my tastes (but I am not a fan of spicy foods),
but Hubby thought it was great and requested a re-order already.
So there ya go - if you like some kick to your meals and you like ham, you should definitely try this one.
It would also be great fried up with some eggs!
(Didn't try this one right out of the can, so I can't comment on room temp flavor!)
Sure it's spam (not the "send this to 30 people and you get a million dollars" kind of spam) but if you can read...it says BACON
What are you still reading this review for? I said BACON...
SERIOUSLY, put this in your car and check out, this crap taste like bacon, if it were any more awesome it would cure cancer..... speaking of cure...you know what else is cured?...BACON.

SPAM is one of those foods that you either like or hate - and I would be willing to bet for those of us that love it there is a strong emotional connection like eating it on the weekends as a young child with your family when there was more time to prepare and enjoy a big breakfast. Original SPAM is definitely a savory food with pleasant saltiness (although some may argue too much salt - so there is LITE or Reduced Sodium) making it similar in many ways to bacon, sausage, or even a ham steak and their respective food pairings. But the Tocino flavorings give it a subtle sweetness to balance the saltiness savouriness so it's a little less "aggressive" in its flavor profile and allows you to use it more ways. For example, I really find this to be superior in fried rice, gumbo soups or sauteed with vegetables (like broccoli and garlic). It reminds me of the sweet sausage you buy in the Asian supermarkets - just not as firm. I often eat thinly sliced SPAM from the can like spiced ham and the Tocino flavoring works nicely with a gouda, cheddar, and my favorite Havarti. When I do cook it, I pan fry it in a non-stick skillet with no water (as recommended) or oil. It takes a little longer than the original to get a good browning - but it's worth wait. Unfortunately, my local supermarket only carries Original, LITE, Bacon and Hickory - so I'm glad Amazon carries it. But why is it two to three times the cost of the other varieties? Regardless, I still buy it now and then - it makes me happy and reminds me of foods I've enjoyed with Filipino friends.
It's SPAM. It's no organic or GMO-free or gluten-free whatever magical health food, but it is pretty delicious. And when it comes in a single serving like these pouches, there's no need to wrap and refrigerate the leftovers. It's the perfect portion for a spam and grilled cheese, spam fried rice, or spam and eggs.
The expiration date was far, far away (as expected) and the price was better value than buying in-store. It's an easy and useful item to keep on hand for when I want a protein but don't have anything fresh or unfrozen. One of the top reviews says there is no gelatinous ring around the meat but my packets have had it so far... not that it really matters at all.
Love the product. Possibly at its greatest fried up with eggs. If you love pepper and Spam you'll probably love this. Fried it up with eggs as soon as it was delivered this morning and it was awesome. Some say it tastes bad cold and has an odd texture. I disagree. Had a slab by itself, cold, tonight and it tasted great. I'll bet it will make an awesome sandwich with your choice of condiments or plain. The texture is exactly what I expected,,, more of a cold cut texture rather than a chunky texture due to it being a finer grind but definitely not bad... That said, If any changes were to be made by SPAMCO :-), I would suggest adding a bit more salt and a bit less pepper !
Never thought much of Spam. I keep a few cans in my emergency supplies. After trying the black pepper variety, some cans have migrated to the kitchen. Quite tasty.
I have elderly grandparent's who don't always have someone to cook for them, or they start getting picky. I know it's not the healthiest choice but it keeps them having something easy to eat. I bought this item a couple times already, my grandfather loves it, and it's perfect size and it's easy to open. That for me is the best part, it doesn't take alot of effort the way a can of spam takes. It's convenient and just the right size. Price was pretty on point as well, not much more expensive than buying it store but, for the convenience of having it shipped, I recommend it.
