Garmin Approach S20, GPS Golf Watch with Step Tracking, Preloaded Courses, White

Garmin Approach S20, GPS Golf Watch with Step Tracking, Preloaded Courses, White

I bought this watch for the everyday use with the benefit of the golf feature, as i already have the Garmin G6 handheld. The battery life is excellent, charged on Monday, wore it all week and it lasted my two weekend rounds(Saturday and Sunday) with 30% left. Yardage with both devices was within a yard of one another. So yardage could be deemed accurate. Some have asked can they get past the non-touch screen feature of this watch. I believe the way it is set up is better,. i know with my G6 and even iPhone, i constantly hit the wrong place and get a different result than I wanted. With the buttons on this watch and highlighted feature you know exactly what you are selecting. Also, this isn't an iWatch you really are not touching the screen that much anyhow. The GPS moves hole to hole, it tracks everything and even loads your steps, time and odometer automatically after the round, so the lack of touch screen won't really effect much. I would highly recommend this watch. I will say that the only negative is the "Black" is much more "Gray" than black. But if that is the only negative than Garmin has done a good job.

last note on the reviews, I was hesitant to buy this watch with a lot of negative reviews However, dug deeper and noticed they were all from 2016. All the 4-5 star reviews were from 2017, so i went ahead and bought. Whatever the issues were in 2016 they have resolved and the watch works as advertised. Buy the watch!

I ordered this GPS watch after much research. I am not disappointed and exceeds all the good review. Garmin has packed so much tech into this entry level watch that is beyond watches that are over $400. You don't get the full course layout or in color but what you get is course accuracy, much more courses than any competitor, ease of updates, and battery that last you over a month. I got this watch over a month ago. Played 3 rounds in single full charge and my watch still has 25% juice left. Just as a watch, battery should last more than 2 months after a full charge. One of the best valued golf GPS and money spent.

This watch is great. It has had every municipal and private course I have played. As a watch the numbers are huge and easy to see. For the price you don't get a touch screen and all functions are done with the four buttons. But you get used to them once you figure it out. I liked mine so well, I gave one to my dad. You do have to select your course when you are at the course, not at home. Oddly his and my watches sometimes read a yard or so different from each other. For our game that is not critical. As they say, a person with two watches never knows what time it is. Anyway, it track your steps, lets you know how far you are from the hole. You can adjust the location of the flag to 9 different positions on the green for better accuracy. It will show you the location of hazards relative to the centerline of the fairway and tell you the distance to the hazard, but shows the fairway only as a straight line, not the curve it actually takes. You can track the clubs you use, keep score, and download the information to a computer for further analysis. You can start your round on any hole, so it is good for shotgun starts also. It has a lot of features. It is not the fanciest thing out there, but it is a really good tool and a good value for the price.

I bought this because of the positive reviews and glad I did decide to buy a gps watch as opposed to other type of golf gps gadgets. I was worried that my swing would be affected by wearing a watch but it is comfortable and light; no issue. I was very surprised how visible the screen is in direct sunlight (amazed). My advice is to familiarize yourself with the watch prior to playing a round and you will have no delay in play, even for a highly analytical person. Ive waited over 5 years for an attractive, highly visible, versatile gps watch with a decent price and I finally found it. I only wish it would read front, center, back of green in that order but it reads center of the green first.

This is the first golf watch I've used; previously I carried range finder binoculars. For me, this watch is perfectly fine. I don't use several of the features, namely the score keeping, moving pin locations or the distances to hazards. I could see that the buttons on the side could be cumbersome if you were using these functions.

The battery life is great. I can play two rounds of golf and wear the watch for over one week with plenty of battery left at the end of the week.

For the most part, I've found the yardages to be very accurate. The course I play most often enlarged some of the greens so the approach distances to a couple of the greens can be off by five or six yards. I'm not sure what Garmin's process is for updating the course library as changes are made to golf courses, but that might be a consideration if you play a course that has been changed or renovated.

I am impressed by the library of courses Garmin maintains. I haven't found a course yet that isn't in the Garmin library; there is even a little par 3 course I play that is in the library.

I do use the steps feature to make sure I stay active during the day. For the times I've walked and counted my steps and compared them to the watch, I found the watch to be relatively close to my count - most recently I counted 400 steps and the watch registered 393 steps.

Great golf GPS. Distances very accurate. With a full charge, battery will last for more than two rounds. In just watch mode, it lasts a least a week. The scorecard feature is super, it reminds you after each hole played to record your score, putts, whether you hit the fairway and even lets you record if you went left or right. The best feature is that it pairs with Garmin Connect where you can review your entire round to help you improve. The only negative is the auto-shot function. When it works it is great, but it misses a number of swings during a round. But all in all, it is a great golf GPS and since it is a Garmin it is very reliable. I also have a Garmin Approach G5 that I have used since 2011 and it still works great.

This watch is fantastic for golf. It does tell the time so you can wear it elsewhere and not stick out. The watch fits my golf game seamlessly, allowing me to leave my phone in my bag or cart. It does not slow down the rate of play whatsoever, you can mark your score and hole details while walking from the green back to the cart. I can not stress enough how useful this watch is. Accuracy is pretty spot on with range finders especially considering you can easily adjust where the pin is located on the green

Very good quality, accurate distances and database. I replaced an S2 that I had been using for a couple of years, and this GPS is better in every way. However, if you want all of the on-course shot tracking and stuff, this watch will be a bit of a distraction unless you purchase the little buttons that screw into the top of the grips so that it is automatic. It is still a very good value//product for the price, and I would recommend it for a solidly performing GPS golf aid. I also wear it full time, in the shower, etc, for a step tracker and watch. It only needs charging once every couple of weeks if I do not play golf, and it will easily go three rounds and three days if you play every day.

The S20 is light weight, comfortable easy to use. Just read the 3 or 4 pages of directions and go. I suggest just use the basic hole view the first time out as I did. This unit read within a yard or two of the GPS watch that my playing partner was using and what the course markers were. Remember the largest number (in size) is the distance to the pin location. If you did not move the pin location this is the center of the green. Unless you are a 6 or better handicap golfer and make the ball move left or right when it hits the green don't bother. I will update this review after a few more times of use. Batter was slightly less than 30% depleted after a 4 hour 10 min round.

Purchased this watch before my golf trip to Miami. It worked like a charm. There are a couple apps I found that work in sync with this watch. I am now able to record my scores for every round using the watch. When you reach the green of a hole the face of the watch will display a default score of par on the screen and you simply need to confirm that score, add or subtract strokes from the score and press ok. I still have not mastered the club distance feature, but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon. It found the courses I played quickly. After selecting a course, the watch will want to know if you want to track your score and track your club distances. Simple yes or no. Enjoy.
