Baron's Kosher 100% Pure Ground Sesame Tahini 16-ounce Jars (Pack of 2).

Baron's Kosher 100% Pure Ground Sesame Tahini 16-ounce Jars (Pack of 2).

Excellent smooth tahini by Baron's; no gooey oil on top of hard sesame paste you have to pry from bottom of jar. Rather than write, I would like to share my recipe for tahini!
Using a plane grater, grate 2 cloves fresh garlic into your mixing bowl, add 1/4 tsp cumin, cayenne to taste, salt, juice of one fresh lemon (at least 1/4 cup of fresh juice). set aside, in a second small bowl mix 1/2 cup tahini w 1/2 cup warm water...it will look curdled, just keep mixing gently but firmly until the mixture becomes smooth...dribble in extra warm water if mixture is clearly too thick...add 3 tbs good olive oil. Add tahini mixture to first bowl, mixing well, set covered on counter so flavors blend, they will deepen as garlic, cayenne bloom, so don't adjust spices, salt too early.
I use this sauce for almost everything; roast chicken, fish, on chopped vegetables as a dressing, and with toasted pita any time-BTW, unless you prefer pita CHIPS, always light a gas burner on low and place pita on top until it 'poofs' slightly, toast on both sides. ENJOY!!!!

I like hummus but didn't like the prices for ready-made, even at Costco. Tahini, if available at all in the supermarkets around here, is also absurdly expensive. Amazon lists several brands and sizes of tahini, and Baron's had the best price per amount, so I tried it. The texture was much like organic peanut butter, in that the solids had separated by gravity from the oil. The scent of the oil was fresh. Careful stirring (and stirring and stirring...) combined the solids and oil. I have made many batches of hummus since then, and never had a problem due to the tahini.

I wrote this review because the Amazon distro for Baron's, "Great Ones For You," kept bombing me with email. I'm currently using the third (or is it fourth?) order of the product, and the quality has been consistently good, so I feel safe to review it.

I love this tahini. It's smooth and the consistency is easy to work with. I love the flavor and how thick it is. You have to make sure that you shake the bottle really well before using to get the right texture. Otherwise, you'll have an oily layer on top and a hard paste at the bottom of the jar. I ran into that problem with my first bottle and the bottom ended up being hard and stuck to the bottom of the container. I mainly use tahini to make homemade salad dressing. It's so easy and it's delicious. My recipe is pretty simple --

Sesame salad dressing:
2 tablespoons tahini
1 tablespoon tamari (or soy sauce)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Agave nectar to taste (depending on how sweet you like your dressing)
Dash of water (add more if you like thinner dressing)
Pinch of black pepper
1 tablespoon of white sesame seeds

You just mix all the ingredients in a cup/bowl and it's ready to use. The dressing is a mild nutty flavor with a little bit of creaminess. The apple cider vinegar adds the acidity which is a nice balance.

I made hummus last night with this tahini and Goya chick peas, and the combination was great! Originally, I was using hummus with a different brand of tahini (that was an organic tahini!), the hummus came out bitter every time! So, after reading the reviews I went for this one! It has a great taste! Here is the recipe I used from inspired taste. net

1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas or 1 1/2 cups (250 grams) cooked chickpeas
1/4 cup (60 ml) fresh lemon juice (1 large lemon)
1/4 cup (60 ml) well-stirred tahini, see our homemade tahini recipe
1 small garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons (30 ml) extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Salt to taste
2 to 3 tablespoons (30 to 45 ml) water
Dash ground paprika, for serving

I read a review that was skeptical that their jar was a full 16oz so I weighed mine when I received them- both were 17.65oz on the nose, and it's a very thin plastic jar, so I believe that you're getting the full 16oz weight of tahini. As, with everything, your mileage may vary, but I thought it was useful to mention.

The flavor is great and as others have mentioned- it's a slammin' deal compared to buying it in the store. Only complaint is that it is not a screw-top lid, which will oxidize the oil faster, but if you keep it in the fridge and use it regularly, I can't see that being a problem.

Think I've found my new go-to tahini.

Description

Baron's Tahini is a ground paste made from sesame seeds. Tahini is the second most important ingredient in hummus, right after the chickpeas, and a major component of other Middle Eastern foods. Additionally, Tahini is used as a base for Tahini sauce. Tahini sauce is a popular condiment for meat, vegetables and salads. Tahini sauce is very simple and easy to make. Typically, the dressing is made by thinning Tahini with ingredients such as lemon juice or water, and ingredients such as dill, pepper, or other herbs may be added for flavor. The health benefits of sesame seeds include high amount of proteins, essential vitamins and minerals, omega-6 fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants. Additionally, sesame seeds are very rich in minerals, including high amounts per serving of calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, manganese, selenium, zinc, and copper.

I love this tahini. I can't count the number of times I've purchased a jar of tahini and it was too bitter. This tahini is not bitter at all. I like to lick the spoon afterwards and it tastes wonderful. I make big batches of hummus with it regularly and use it for dressings and sauces. My biggest criticism is that it is not available on autoship.

Recipes
Hummus
I take a can of chickpeas and dump them into a bowl, liquid and all. I add a couple cloves of garlic and microwave it all for five minutes. Dump that into a food process with a couple tablespoons of lemon, a teaspoon of salt, two tablespoons of olive oil, half a cup of tahini and you have a great plain hummus. I also like to add sun-dried tomatoes.

Tahini dressing
Put half a cup tahini in a jar, two tablespoons brown sugar, two tablespoons of lemon, a pinch of salt, and a bit of water until it has the consistency of pancake batter. Shake up the jar and adjust the sugar to your taste. It is great on a kale salad with white beans and homemade croutons.
Miso tahini dressing
A quarter cup of tahini and miso paste and a teaspoon of garlic powder. Add warm water until runny. It is great on salad, soba noodles, etc.

Have used this tahini for about 5 years now. Order in bulk from Amazon. It stores well, I use it when I make homemade hummus - which is quite often. I've never had any issues. The quality of the tahini has always been consistent and the packaging is tight. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to stir it before using. the oils will separate out so you will have a thicker consistency at the bottom of the container. I just take a butter knife and mix it up in the container before pouring it into my blender. Generally I only have to mix it up the on the first use, after that it stays mixed. I store it in the fridge also. The trouble I've run into lately is that it taste so good that I will get a spoon and eat it straight, and while it is a good fat, I probably don't need spoonfuls of it : )

After spending $5.99 for a 10 oz. jar of tahini at a local store (the third one I searched) to satisfy my hummus addiction, I realized I needed a reliable source and said "DUH" Amazon. This product is brilliant. You must make hummus at home and you must use Baron's. You get TWO 16 Ounce Jars for ten bucks! Yep...you heard me. The texture is smooth and creamy, I have used it as one would peanut butter. I've made several batches of hummus and tried a dip recipe. Here is the list of ingredients: 100% ground sesame seeds. That's it! What a concept!

I just bought a second round of this for my hummus. This stuff tastes great! I always try to stir it, but it has needed no stirring at all. Read that as FRESH (leave it on your shelf for 3 months and you will be stirring I guess) Give it a good shake before opening it just in case there has been some settling

I buy this stuff often and the quality is consistently EXCELLENT

We use a lot of Tahini. Fortunately it has number of health benefits which are easy to find on the web. It's probably best known for its use in hummus and baba ganoush but it's good on a lot of other foods. I was taking Vitamin D which I found cleared up a rash that used to appear in the winter. Also the D surprisingly cleared up some painful cracks in my fingers that also came up in the winter, and in just a few days. Then I found out that Vitamin D needs to be taken with some fat to be absorbed well, so I used Tahini as the fat, either on my cereal or in a smoothie, Tahini and D drops. Tahini is good on cereal and also on baked potatoes or quinoa with some coconut aminos. Tahini mixed with some maple syrup makes a quick icing like spread. Tahini on fruit salad with dates is good, it gets thinned a bit by the fruit juice. We made baked purple cauliflower with crushed garlic and some Tahini, some parts got a bit crispy and it was all good. Tahini with some water, lemon juice, and seasonings is a good salad dressing. I put some Tahini on my spaghetti, on the spaghetti sauce, really tasty. My wife makes healthy cookies that have Tahini, maple syrup, walnuts, and some flour.
This brand is very good. Make sure to stir it up, it settles after sitting. The ingredients are 100% ground sesame seeds. I need to go eat some right now.
